“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name.  Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
July 21: Andrzej, Daniel, Paulina, Stojsław, Wiktor
July 22: Bolesława, Bolisława, Maria Magdalena, Milenia, Więcemiła
July 23: Bogna, Żelisław
July 24: Antoni, Kinga, Krystyna, Olga, Wojciecha
July 25: Jakub, Krzysztof, Sławosz, Walentyna
July 26: Anna, Grażyna, Mirosława
July 27: Julia, Marta, Natalia

OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEXT SUNDAY IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING MASS – BLESSING OF KAPLICZKA (TRADITIONAL SMALL ROADSIDE SHRINE) – We will proceed immediately at the conclusion of Mass on foot (for those who can – or by car otherwise) to Bryan St. for a blessing.  The shrine contains carvings of Our Lady of Częstochowa and St. Nicholas and “Peace be with you” in three languages. It was commissioned by the Sydney Architectural Conservation Society on land the Society owns. Carved by Liam Tromans, it will be delivered on a truck to the site this week. A number of our parishioners gave suggestions about the design (as part of our Sto Darow Centenary Community Service Initiative), and there was a detailed design workshop about the site with Krista Ann Starzomski’s students at Whitney Pier Memorial Junior High. Please wear traditional attire or a St. Michael’s uniform if possible next Sunday. Thank you.

ST. SZYMON (SIMON) OF LIPNICA – FEAST DAY JULY 18 – One of the patron saints of Kraków and of university students of Polish heritage, Br. Simon (1435-1482), a Franciscan and teacher at Jagiellonian University. In the statement accompanying his canonization in 2007 we are told that “he genuinely embraced the humble and poor life …”  When the plague stuck Kraków in the early 1480s, Simon “went everywhere comforting, giving succour, administering the sacraments and announcing the consoling Word of God to the dying. He was soon infected. He suffered the pain of the disease with extraordinary patience and, near the end, expressed his desire to be buried under the threshold of the church …”

OUR CLOSING HYMN TODAY – Sunday, July 21, 2013
Zdrowaś Maryjo, Bogarodzico

Zdrowaś Maryjo, Bogarodzico! * Błagamy Ciebie, święta Dziewico: * Niech łaska Twoja zawsze nam sprzyja, * módl się za nami, Zdrowaś Maryja!
Wśród czystych duchów, w obliczu Pana, * Tyś przenajświętsza, niepokalana, * jak pośród kwiatów wonna lilija, * jak wśród gwiazd zorza, Zdrowaś Maryja!
Ty, coś karmiła świata Zbawienie, * Ty nam, jak Matka, daj pożywienie, * niech brak żywności nas nie zabija, * broń nas od głodu, Zdrowaś Maryja!
Hail Mary, Mother of God! * We beg you, holy Virgin: * Let your love always aid us, * Have mercy on us, Hail Mary!
Among the pure spirits in the face of the Lord, * Thou art most sacred, immaculate, * As the lily among fragrant flowers, * and among the stars, Hail Mary!
You, who help us toward salvation, * you, Mother, give us nourishment, * Let the lack of food not vanquish us, * Defend us from hunger, Hail Mary!
