“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name.  Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
July 7: Antoni, Kira, Piotr
July 8: Adrian, Adrianna, Chwalimir, Edgar, Elżbieta, Eugeniusz
July 9: Łucja, Lucja, Mikołaj, Weronika, Zenon
July 10: Aleksander, Amelia, Aniela, Filip

OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Vigil Candle (sponsorship for two-week periods in memory of a loved one) is available for weeks beginning in early August. To reserve weeks or to order Masses or make In Memoriam donations to the Building Fund, please call 563-1226.

NASI GOŚCIE / SPECIAL GUESTS: WITAMY! Welcome to the Consul General of Poland, Mr. Andrzej Szydło, and the Honorary Consul, Mr. Jan Skora. There will be an informal meet-and-greet and light lunch after Mass downstairs today. Everyone is welcome! Zapraszamy!

PAINTING OF THE CHURCH UPDATE: As you can see, the interior painting of the church is virtually complete! There are some touch-ups that will still be done in the next two weeks, and the painters will return to do the gold vines over the altar. The team from Our Neighbourhood Painters Ltd. (led by Mr. Jeff Peach) has taken this work seriously. There was a great deal of helpful input from parishioners about colour tones – and we hope you like the result. Thank you to the choir members for recommending we bring in a professional interior decorator to try to get it just right. Jean Brown of Jean Brown Interiors was meticulous in her work.

OGRÓDEK: Thanks to everyone who has been tending to our new ogródek (Polish food garden)!

MEN OF THE DEEPS: Thank you to everyone who helped in any way with yesterday’s Men of the Deeps/St. Mary’s Polish Choir Concert! Dziekujemy

CANONIZATION: As this bulletin was being completed, it was announced that Pope Francis had cleared the way for the canonization (likely later this year) of Blessed Pope John Paul II and Blessed Pope John XXIII. This will be a very special moment for our parish.

STO DARÓW CENTENARY SERVICE INITIATIVE: Thank you for your non-perishable food-bank contributions today and throughout the year. There have been various recent community-service initiatives by parishioners. For example, some of our parishioners have been helping with the design of a parkette – including kapliczka – for the bottom of Bryan St. The kapliczka (small shrine) is being carved by Liam Tromans and will be ready by the end of the month. Also, one of our parishioners sponsored tickets so that some of the youth and volunteers from the Whitney Pier Youth Club could attend last evenings Men of the Deeps/St. Mary’s Polish Parish Choir concert.

PARISH CENTENARY EXHIBIT: CBC Cape Breton to broadcast live from the opening of our parish centenary exhibit: This will take place on Thursday, July 25, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Polish Village Hall. This is the last call for items to be displayed. If you would like to contribute any of your art work (with a Catholic or Polish theme), please speak with Frania McKay as soon as possible (539-4354; frania@ns.sympatico.ca).

PARISH CENTENARY BANQUET – Friday, September 6, Polish Village Hall: Response has been exceptionally good to the advance call for parishioners to reserve tickets, and we are getting close to capacity. To reserve tickets (only if you are certain you can attend), please contact Shauna McKay samckay@ns.sympatico.ca; 539-4354

Papieska Msza w święto Tomasza Apostoła: dotknąć ran Jezusa / Papal Mass on the Feast of St. Thomas the Apostle (July 3): Touching the Wounds of Jesus: By spotkać Boga, należy najpierw dotknąć z czułością Jezusowych ran, które znajdziemy u naszych bliźnich: głodnych, ubogich, chorych, więzionych. W ten sposób Papież Franciszek skomentował doświadczenie niewiernego Tomasza ze zmartwychwstałym Chrystusem. W święto liturgiczne tego apostoła w papieskiej Mszy w kaplicy Domu św. Marty wzięli udział pracownicy Papieskiej Rady ds. Dialogu Międzyreligijnego.

To meet God, you must touch Jesus' wounds that we find in our neighbour: the hungry, the poor, the sick and the imprisoned. In this way, the Pope Francis commented on Thomas’ encounter with the Risen Christ. The Mass for the liturgical feast of the apostle in the Chapel of St. Martha was attended by the personnel of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue.

PLEASE CHECK OUT OUR ON-LINE “VIRTUAL TOUR” AND AN 8.5 MINUTE PARISH WELCOME VIDEO ON OUR WEBSITE:  www.stmaryspolishparish.ca

Wishing you a blessed week! Bóg zapłać!

OUR CLOSING HYMN TODAY -- Królowo ziem polskich

Niech z wiarą, nadzieją, dla miłości Twej,
Do Ciebie lgną wierni, jak do Matki swej.

Before thy feet we kneel; accept our appeal, our chorus.
