OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

STO LAT! Blessings and best wishes to Linda Morykot on her birthday! Wszystkiego dobrego!

SERDECZNIE DZIĘKUJEMY! The Opłatek and Jasełka were beautiful last Sunday. Thanks to everyone who brought food to share, thanks to all the people who had lines in the Jasełka, thanks to Nicole for decorating, thanks to everyone who helped with clean-up, thanks to Bernie for hall work and blocking off the space for our parish, thanks to the parish volunteers who helped with serving, thanks to Donna for the tableware, thanks to Jo-Ann for painting our new Polish rocking horse in time, thanks to our wonderful choir, and thanks to everyone who helped in any way. It was a very good day. Please check out the parish Facebook page for some photos!

GROUP PHOTOS OF OUR PARISHIONERS AT MASS FOR SHUT-INS: Many thanks to Shirley Ardelli and family for doing these photos in hard copy as a gracious gift to fellow parishioners. They still have some photos and would be happy to share them.

TAKING DOWN CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS: We will take down the szopka and other decorations after Mass today. Thanks to anyone who can stay for a short while. Thanks to fellow parishioners Stephanie and Kevin who were in Friday to take down those decorations that needed to be put for compost.

POGORIA POLISH FOLK ENSEMBLE will be singing kolędy and doing Opłatek-related activities at the Cove Guest Home this afternoon (Sunday) at 2:00pm in the Cove’s community room. The group was invited to do a session on Polish traditions for the month of January.

REPAIRS: Fellow parishioners may have noticed that the front doors have been giving us some difficulty and have been rotting near the bottom due to moisture build up. At its meeting this past week, the Rada authorized some temporary winter work (metal kick plates at bottom, filling in rotted areas) and is looking at more long-term solutions once the weather gets warmer. In the next couple of weeks, the light above the altar that is out of place will also be repaired.

RADA OFFICERS: As this latest Rada meeting was the first one since the Annual General Meeting, the Rada elected its Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretary for the year. Robert Schella agreed to re-offer as chair for one more year, Stephanie Black as vice chair, and Ursula Melski Jr. as secretary. (The other Rada members, as elected at the December AGM, are Kevin Gniewek, Joe Gillis, Ursula Melski Sr., and Tom Urbaniak).

FINANCE COMMITTEE, PROPERTY WORKING GROUP, ALTAR SOCIETY, LECTORS: As we do every year, this is a call for volunteers. If you would be interested in serving on any of these committees, or learning more about them, please speak with any member of the Rada.

BLESSED CHALK is still available. A friendly reminder of the invitation to inscribe, as in the Polish tradition, K+M+B 2024 with chalk above a doorway in your home. It signifies Christ’s blessing of our homes and also that we’re willing, just as the wise men, to go out of our way for faith, service, and hospitality.

FOOD CUPBOARD: Thank you very much for non-perishable items for the Food Cupboard. There are baskets to collect your kind non-perishable donations at the entrance to the church.

GALICIA STREET – SECOND STUDY WALK: If you have some free time this Friday, January 26, at 9:00am, please join CBU local-government students in the Polish Village Hall. This week, we will focus on understanding the brook / wetland that is close to the Galicia Street right-of-way. There will be coffee, tea and treats and conversation.

BOTTLES AND CANS COLLECTION FOR UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN RELIEF EFFORTS: In support of our Ukrainian humanitarian relief efforts, Marjorie Ardelli and Paul MacKinnon are very kindly continuing to collect recyclable bottles. They would welcome any redeemable bottles. Thanks to fellow parishioners for recent contributions of bottles and cans. Our parish has been supporting sister city Walbrzych’s Ukrainian relief efforts, plus the Catholic Near East Welfare Association and the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace.

OUR POLISH-THEMED RADIO SEGMENTS: The Coast Radio FM 89.7 (weekdays at 3:50pm and 7:50pm or any time at coastalradio.ca). This coming week's segment will be about a Polish proverb about work: Śpiesz się powoli. Many thanks to Bernie LaRusic for lending his voice to this episode. The Society is dedicating this segment to Mary Pierrynowski on the second anniversary of her passing, with much gratitude for Mary’s service and leadership in our community.
We’re looking for sponsors and volunteers for the radio segments. It’s $100 for a whole week to sponsor. Sponsors are recognized on air – and any dedications, too (eg. if you’re sponsoring as a memorial or as a birthday or anniversary gift). The Coast is generously redirecting the sponsorships back to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society (which produces the segments). If you think you might like to sponsor a week, please e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca or call 563-1226. Many thanks!

COLLECTION FOR JANUARY 14: will be reported in next week’s bulletin

THIS WEEK IS THE WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY

AFFIRMATION OF LOVE – from this year’s resource book for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity – prepared by the churches of Burkina Faso
inspired by 1 Cor 13

I may speak in the languages of people and angels,
but if I lack love, I am simply a resonant metal, a loud cymbal.

I may have the gift of prophecy, understanding of all mystery and all knowledge;
I may have the fullest faith, that moves mountains; but if I lack love, I am nothing.

I may distribute all my goods to hungry people,
I may even deliver my body to the flames, but if I lack love, I gain nothing.

Love demands patience. Love serves.
It does not walk away. It is not jealous.
It does not brag. It does not seek its own interest. It is not irritable. It does not hold a grudge.

Love does not celebrate injustice, but finds its joy in the truth.
It excuses all. It believes all. It hopes for all. It endures all.

Love has no end. Prophecies? They will finish. Tongues? They will come to an end.
Knowledge? It will pass.

Faith, hope and love continue.

The greatest of these is love
