STO LAT! Happy birthday to Frank Starzomski! Wishing health, happiness, and many blessings!

PRE-CHRISTMAS BAZAAR: Thiscoming Saturday, November 4, Polish Village Hall 12:00pm to 4:00pm. Hosted by St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society. Upstairs and downstairs. Beautiful one-of-a-kind items and many vendors!

LITERARY CHALLENGE FOR UPCOMING POLISH INDEPENDENCE DAY: Last year, for the first time, we took part in a literary challenge bringing together Polish communities around the world. We did a reading from a famous poem (by Adam Mickiewicz) that was the featured text last year. This year, the featured text for Polish communities around the world is a famous 1888 novel by Eliza Orzeszkowa. It’s called Nad Niemnem. It’s translated into English as On the Niemen. To mark Polish Independence Day, we will have lunch after Mass on November 19 (a week after Independence Day) and do some short readings from this novel. Would you like to read a paragraph in Polish or English or a bit of both? We’ll have some fun with this and discover some Polish literature at the same time. Please let Tom Urbaniak know if you’d like to do a little reading. A few copies of the novel in English have been ordered. That weekend, we will also have some visitors, who will be here for the Annual General Meeting of the Atlantic Canada District of the Canadian Polish Congress.

RAFFLE FOR POLISH DOLL (with thanks to Toni LaRusic): Tickets are $2 each or three for $5. Toni will have tickets after Mass. Toni has kindly donated the doll, and the proceeds will support the work and hall revitalization project of the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society.

BOTTLES AND CANS COLLECTION FOR UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN RELIEF EFFORTS: In support of our Ukrainian humanitarian relief efforts, Marjorie Ardelli and Paul MacKinnon are very kindly continuing to collect recyclable bottles. They would welcome any redeemable bottles. Thanks to fellow parishioners for recent contributions of bottles and cans. Our parish has been supporting sister city Walbrzych’s Ukrainian relief efforts, plus the Catholic Near East Welfare Association and the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace.

FOOD CUPBOARD: Many thanks for bringing any non-perishable contributions to Mass.

OUR POLISH-THEMED RADIO SEGMENTS: The Coast Radio 89.7 (weekdays at 3:50pm and 7:50pm or any time at coastalradio.ca). This coming week's segment will be about “wypominki” and Polish traditions around All Souls Day. Thank you to Father Rich for lending his voice to this segment, which is dedicated to the deceased loved ones of all listeners.
We’re always looking for sponsors and volunteers. It’s $100 for a whole week. Sponsors are recognized on air – and any dedications, too (eg. if you’re sponsoring as a memorial or as a birthday or anniversary gift). The Coast is generously redirecting the sponsorships back to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society (which produces the segments), which has been a big help to the Society. If you think you might like to sponsor a week, please e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca or call 563-1226. Many thanks!

COLLECTION FOR OCTOBER 22: $1,018.95. Sincere thanks! Bόg zapłać!

THANKS VERY KINDLY FOR YOUR DONATIONS TO OUR PARISH : Donations may be made during weekly Sunday Mass collection. Also, please feel free to use the mail: St. Mary’s Polish Parish, 21 Wesley St., Sydney, NS, B1N 2M5. Donations can also be made securely on-line at Canada Helps (which will email you an instant tax receipt):   https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/st-marys-polish-parish/. (link to this site is provided on our parish website homepage). Thanks for your support!

POLISH DINNERS FUND-RAISER RESULTS: Income was $2,710.00. Expenses were $678.59. Therefore, net income (profit to the parish) was $2,031.41. This may change slightly. Huge thanks for all the volunteer work!

FOLLOWING UP FROM OUR PARISH RETREAT: At the Rada meeting this past week, Rada members listed words that highlighted the recent retreat experience for them (including reflecting on the moving prayers that were written by fellow parishioners while we were in Gabarus). Words that emerged included spiritual, kindness, rest, community, coming together, nature, fellowship, sharing, listening, peace. Rada members are now reflecting on ways we can cultivate those key words/values in the next year. It does not have to be a project. It can be gestures, a prayer, a way of being. Input/continued conversation with fellow parishioners is genuinely appreciated.

PIEŚNI / HYMNS:

Entrance: Pod Twą obronę (For Thy Protection)
Pod Twą obronę, Ojcze na niebie,/grono Twych dzieci swój powierza los,
Ty nam błogosław, ratuj w potrzebie/ i broń od zguby, gdy zagraża cios.
For thy protection, Heavenly Father/We Thy own children / lift our voice to pray/ O do not leave us, to our strength, but rather/ Save us from evil / tempting us each day

Offertory: Witaj Jezu Chlebie Żywy (Greetings, Jesus, Living Bread)
1. Witaj, Jezu, chlebie żywy,/ w Hostii świętej Tyś prawdziwy,/ Bóg nasz i nasz Pan.
2. Witaj, Przenajświętsze Ciało,/ któreś za nas wycierpiało/ męki krzyża ból.

Communion: Kiedyś o Jezu Chodził po Świecie (When Once Jesus Walked on the Earth) - choir

Post-Communion: Idżmy Tulmy Się Jak Dziatki (A hymn about finding solace in the heart of Mary)
1. Idźmy, tulmy się jak dziatki,/ Do Serca Maryi Matki./ Czy nas nęka życia trud, czy to winy czerni brud!/ Idźmy, idźmy ufnym krokiem,/ rzewnym sercem łzawym okiem: To serce zna dzieci głos,/ odwróci bolesny cios
2. Ach, to Serce dobroć sama,/ najczulszej z córek Adama./ Jest otwarte w każdy czas, samo szuka, wzywa nas:/ "Pójdźcie do mnie dziatki moje,/ wyczerpnijcie łaski zdroje:/ Kto mnie znajdzie, życie ma,/ Temu Syn zbawienie da.

Recessional: My Chcemy Boga (We Want God)
1.My chcemy Boga! Panno święta!/ O usłysz naszych wołań głos!/ Miłości Bożej dźwigać pęta, to nasza chluba, to nasz los./ Błogosław słodka, Pani! Błogosław wszelki stan! /My chcemy Boga! My poddani! On naszym Królem, On nasz Pan! (x2)
2. We want our God, dear Holy Lady / Oh! Deign to hear our fervent plea/ Help us to love him and be ready / To do his will on land and sea / Oh, bless us sweetest Mother / Thy praises we will sing./ We want our God and choose no other / To rule but him, our Lord and King! (x2)
