We had other very well-received and well-attended Polish Heritage Month activities this past week: The after-school events (crafts/games and Copernicus birthday party plus the lecture by authors Lech and Grazyna Galezowski about their research on traces of Polonia across rural Canada went well.

Tom Urbaniak has tickets. They have been selling quickly and may be sold out by the time the bulletin is distributed. A big thank you to the volunteers who have been working so hard on this.

UPCOMING EVENTS:
FILM SCREENING: Nova Scotia Polish Heritage Month film screening: “EO” with English subtitles, Tuesday at 1:00pm at CBU, Royal Bank Lecture Theatre. Free of charge, including light lunch and refreshments.

COMMUNITY CAFE: Wednesday at 10:15am. Community Café at the Polish Village Hall about research on Polish topics; Photo exhibit by the students who did the summer field school in Walbrzych. We’d be so grateful to anyone who can make it and if anyone could bring a dish to share.

FREE RAFFLE FOR BOOKS BY POLISH NOVA SCOTIAN AUTHORS: Please fill out a ticket at the table at the back of the church.

BOTTLES AND CANS COLLECTION FOR UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN RELIEF EFFORTS: In support of our Ukrainian humanitarian relief efforts, Marjorie Ardelli and Paul MacKinnon are very kindly continuing to collect recyclable bottles. They would welcome any redeemable bottles. Thanks to fellow parishioners for recent contributions of bottles and cans. Our parish has been supporting sister city Walbrzych’s Ukrainian relief efforts, plus the Catholic Near East Welfare Association and the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace. Our contributions now total more than $35,000. God bless you!

FOOD CUPBOARD: Many thanks for bringing any non-perishable contributions to Mass. The St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society has recently done repairs to the Food Cupboard.

OUR POLISH-THEMED RADIO SEGMENTS: The Coast Radio 89.7 (weekdays at 3:50pm and 7:50pm or any time at coastalradio.ca). This coming week's segment will be about the Polish card game “Dwojaki” (which we introduced at the Polish after-school event last Tuesday). Thank you to Alison Etter for lending her voice.
We’re always looking for sponsors and volunteers. It’s $100 for a whole week. Sponsors are recognized on air – and any dedications, too (eg. if you’re sponsoring as a memorial or as a birthday or anniversary gift). The Coast is generously redirecting the sponsorships back to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society (which produces the segments), which has been a big help to the Society. If you think you might like to sponsor a week, please e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca or call 563-1226. Many thanks!

FATHER RICH’S COLUMN: Niech Będzie Pochwalony Jezus Chrystus! Praise Be Jesus Christ! Next Sunday we begin the month of October. During October falls the Feast of the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary on Saturday the 7th. During the month we will pray two decades of the rosary after Sunday Mass in English and Polish asking for the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, our Spiritual Mother for our various needs. Please note that tomorrow this Monday, the time for Mass will move to 6:30pm. Following Mass will be devotional prayers through the intercession of St. Monica to pray for conversion or reconversion of family members who have abandoned the practice of their faith. Next Sunday across Canada and the United States is observed in very many cities and towns the annual "Life Chain," a pro-life event to raise awareness about the injustice of abortion and the killing of infants in the wombs of their mother. Participants pray silently and hold non-graphic signs with messages of love and truth at hundreds of locations across North
America. Here in Sydney on the sidewalk in front of the Mayflower Mall will be a peaceful and prayerful demonstration for the sanctity of human life. I plan to participate and hope some parishioners will join me. It is from 2:00pm to 3:00pm next Sunday, October 1st. May all have a blessed week!
-Fr. Rich
