OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

STO LAT! Birthday blessings to Patsy Kiley! All the very best, Patsy. Hope you have a wonderful day.

FEAST OF MATKA BOSKA ZIELNA / BLESSING OF HERBS, FLOWERS, FRUITS AND VEGETABLES: Next week after Mass on August 13th (closest Sunday to the Feast day). We will also be able to harvest some items from our parish food garden. We invite everyone to bring fresh produce to church. We will have baskets in front of the altar into which we will invite you to place your items. We will give the fresh produce to Loaves and Fishes to help neighbours in need, and also hopefully to some folks who were relying on the Whitney Pier Food Pantry, which recently closed (it was operating out of the Seniors’ and Pensioners’ Club building).

BOTTLES AND CANS COLLECTION FOR UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN RELIEF EFFORTS: In support of our Ukrainian humanitarian relief efforts, Marjorie Ardelli and Paul MacKinnon are very kindly continuing to collect recyclable bottles. They would welcome any redeemable bottles. Thanks to fellow parishioners for recent contributions of bottles and cans, including Father Rich, Stephanie, Wayne, Sophie, Mike. Our parish has been supporting sister city Walbrzych’s Ukrainian relief efforts, plus the Catholic Near East Welfare Association and the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace.

NOVA SCOTIA POLISH HERITAGE MONTH PREPARATIONS: We are looking at quite a few activities for the Month. Among the highlights will be our parish’s 110th anniversary Mass on September 10, our parish retreat on September 23 in Gabarus (where the unveiling of the Copernicus 550th birthday sundial will take place the same day), the Pogoria featured artist exhibit. We’re also putting out a call to volunteers. We would like to do a parish Polish take-out meal on Friday, September 29. Tickets (fixed number) would be pre-sold to manage and space out the process. We would be so grateful for any help, including pierogi preparation in advance.

BISHOP WAYNE KIRKPATRICK WILL JOIN US ON SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 10 to help mark our 110th anniversary. This is the Sunday closest to our parish feast day. We will start Mass later than usual on that day 11:00am. After Mass, we will process to the Twin City Pocket Park for its opening! We will then have a Polish Café at the Polish Village Hall. It will be potluck style, so we would be so grateful to anyone who can bring a dish to share.

LOOKING OVER SOME DRAFT EXHIBIT PANELS: The Beaton Institute has drafted some exhibit panels with archival photos for an eventual mobile Polonia welcome exhibit at the Polish Village Hall. These are rough drafts at this point, but feedback is very welcome. We are trying to arrange a little session for August 9 or 10 to look at and talk about the drafts at the Beaton Institute. If you would like to be included, you would be most welcomed. Please let Tom Urbaniak know.

NOVA SCOTIA POLISH HERITAGE MONTH ACTIVITIES FOR NEXT MONTH (SEPTEMBER): Things are shaping up to be very positive. The theme this year is Copernicus 550. In collaboration with the Glace Bay Library there will even be a “birthday party” for Copernicus (Mikołaj Kopernik) with a colouring contest and activities related to astronomy. We’ll be doing a film screening of the recent acclaimed Polish film “EO”. Pogoria Polish Folk Ensemble (marking its 20th anniversary) will be our featured artist this year. And much more. It will all start at dawn on September 1 here at St. Mary’s Polish Church as we gather to pray for peace on the solemn anniversary of the invasion of Poland and the start of World War II.

FOOD CUPBOARD: Please consider bringing a non-perishable food or personal care item (e.g. shampoo, soap, toilet paper) to church when you come to Mass. There is a collection box at the entrance to the church. We try to fill the Food Cupboard after each Sunday Mass. Thank you so much!

OUR POLISH-THEMED RADIO SEGMENTS: The Coast Radio 89.7 (weekdays at 3:50pm and 7:50pm or any time at coastalradio.ca). This coming week's topic will be the search for the family of a deceased Polish World War II allied soldier – and the Nova Scotia connection. The segment this coming week is dedicated to Patsy Kiley on the occasion of her birthday. Sto lat, Patsy!
We’re always looking for sponsors and volunteers. It’s $100 for a whole week. Sponsors are recognized on air – and any dedications, too (eg. if you’re sponsoring as a memorial or as a birthday or anniversary gift). The Coast is generously redirecting the sponsorships back to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society (which produces the segments), which has been a big help to the Society. If you think you might like to sponsor a week, please e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca or call 563-1226. Many thanks!

POGORIA POLISH FOLK ENSEMBLE: Practice/meeting this week will happen on Tuesday evening

COLLECTION FOR JULY 30: $500.75. Sincere thanks! Bόg zapłać!

FATHER RICH’S COLUMN: I hope everyone enjoys the Civic Holiday tomorrow. Next Sunday will be the blessing of flowers, plants and herbs at Mass. Also on the Assumption Feast (Tuesday,August 15th) itself will also be a blessing at the special Mass at 6:30pm. Next Sunday there will be a Pastoral Airs Concert at St. Mary's Church In Big Pond from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, Admission is $10 . There are a number of singers and musicians participating.
