OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

ST. JOHN’S NIGHT IN THE POLISH TRADITION: The eve of the feast day of St. John the Baptist – and close to the longest day of the year -- is traditionally a time of outdoor celebrations, often with bonfires and wreaths of greenery

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF THE ST. MICHAEL’S POLISH BENEFIT SOCIETY will take place this evening, Sunday, June 25, at 7:00pm. It will be on Zoom to accommodate members who are living or currently working away. All members are warmly welcomed not just board members. We will have a presentation about the current summer school in Walbrzych, review recent events and Polish Village Hall renovations, discuss plans for the future, present the financial report, and elect members to the Society board for the coming year. The meeting should last about an hour. You can join the meeting Sunday evening by computer or telephone. Please contact Tom Urbaniak at tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca or cell (902-574- 4193). Although Tom is presently in Wałbrzych, he can still be reached. Tom can also send anyone the form or the link for membership registration.

FR. RICH is in town for several days. He will celebrate Mass on Sunday and Wednesday. The Poland pilgrimage tour begins on Thursday. Best wishes and blessings to everyone going on the tour!

POGORIA POLISH FOLK ENSEMBLE REHEARSAL: After Mass in the Polish Village Hall.

LOOKING AHEAD TOWARD OUR 110th ANNIVERSARY: We’re looking ahead to Sunday, September 10 with a special Mass followed by gathering at the Polish Village Hall. The Pogoria Polish Folk Ensemble displays will be up at the same time as part of NS Polish Heritage Month. We would also like to invite everyone to set aside Saturday, September 23. We will have a parish retreat in Gabarus. We will reflect on our history and have a conversation on where God might be leading us in the years ahead. We will then proceed to the Gabarus lighthouse for the unveiling of the new Copernicus sundial to mark the famous Polish astronomer’s 550th birthday. We think it will be very meaningful for as many of us as possible to come together in that way.

HOSPITAL VISITING – STEVE SOKOLOWSKI: Steve has been in hospital since May 14 and is gradually improving. Steve has no surviving relatives and welcomes visitors from the parish and enjoys the company. He is in Unit 3B at the regional hospital.

HOUSING CHALLENGES IN OUR COMMUNITY: Recruiting a core of volunteers from local churches for a time-limited volunteer pilot project to accompany students in their meetings with landlords. Please speak with Tom Urbaniak (tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca).

FUND-RAISING FOR UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE: We are using all the funds raised to support three charities that are directly helping refugees and displaced people either within Ukraine itself or who have fled to Poland. Our largest chunk of support has been going to our sister city Wałbrzych’s Ukrainian refugee assistance fund (via the CBRM). We are also supporting Caritas efforts on the ground (via the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace) and the Catholic Near East Welfare Association. We have special envelopes (marked “Ukrainian Humanitarian Assistance”) at the back of the church if you are considering making a contribution. Thank you for your support in the midst of all the suffering caused by this terrible invasion.

VEHICLE PLATES: Cape Breton Polonia and Nova Scotia Polonia front vehicle plates are still available at the back of the church. $25.00 each

FOOD CUPBOARD: Please consider bringing a non-perishable food or personal care item (e.g. shampoo, soap, toilet paper) to church when you come to Mass. There is a collection box at the entrance to the church. We try to fill the Food Cupboard after each Sunday Mass. Thank you so much!

OUR POLISH-THEMED RADIO SEGMENTS: The Coast Radio 89.7 (weekdays at 3:50pm and 7:50pm or any time at coastalradio.ca). This coming week's topic will be the song “Płynie Wisła Płynie” with guest Jean Annette White. Thank you to this week's sponsor Bob Lewandowski.
We’re always looking for sponsors and volunteers. It’s $100 for a whole week. Sponsors are recognized on air – and any dedications, too (eg. if you’re sponsoring as a memorial or as a birthday or anniversary gift). The Coast is generously redirecting the sponsorships back to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society (which produces the segments), which has been a big help to the Society. If you think you might like to sponsor a week, please e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca or call 563-1226. Many thanks!

COLLECTION FOR JUNE 18: $751.55 including $20.00 for the Building Fund and $10.00 for Ukrainian humanitarian assistance. Sincere thanks! Bόg zapłać!

RECENT IMO (IN MEMORY OF) CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE BUILDING FUND:
