OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

"NEVER AGAIN": On the 80 th anniversary of the start of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising against the horrific Nazi oppression and occupation, and in solidarity with our Jewish brothers and sisters, we pray “never again.” The world is forgetting too soon.

ŚWIĘCONKA PARISH EASTER BRUNCH will take place after Mass today in Sala 1050. We would kindly ask everyone to first take a seat before serving, for a special blessing.

A KIND REQUEST FOR OUR PRESENCE THIS COMING SATURDAY: Please join us this coming Saturday, April 29, at 10:00am as our parish records a Mass for Shut-Ins for CTV. The recording will happen at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church. Please invite friends and family members to join us. Your presence will mean a lot. If you have traditional Polish attire or shawl or tartan or St. Michael’s jacket, you’re kindly invited to wear that to the taping. Thanks so much.

LOOKING AHEAD TOWARD MAY 2nd and 3rd: We would be so delighted if you could reserve the afternoon of Tuesday, May 2, and the evening of Tuesday, May 3 on your schedule (International Polonia Day and Feast of Mary Queen of Poland/Polish Constitution Day). On Tuesday, May 2, we will have a Polish Café at the Polish Village Hall. Students from Whitney Pier Memorial will present the artistic fence posts they have been making for the Twin City Pocket Park. At 8:00pm on Tuesday, May 3, we will be hosting on Zoom a lecture for the Polish holiday. The well-known Polish-American author on Polish folk traditions Sophie Hodorowicz Knab will join us! Her books are a delight! The cover of one of them is shown here. This lecture will be dedicated to the memory of Steve Melnick.

FUND-RAISING FOR UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE: We are using all the funds raised to support three charities that are directly helping refugees and displaced people either within Ukraine itself or who have fled to Poland. Our largest chunk of support has been going to our sister city Wałbrzych’s Ukrainian refugee assistance fund (via the CBRM). We are also supporting Caritas efforts on the ground (via the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace) and the Catholic Near East Welfare Association. We have special envelopes (marked “Ukrainian Humanitarian Assistance”) at the back of the church if you are considering making a contribution. Thank you for your support in the midst of all the suffering caused by this terrible invasion.

VEHICLE PLATES: Cape Breton Polonia and Nova Scotia Polonia front vehicle plates are still available at the back of the church. $25.00 each

FOOD CUPBOARD: Please consider bringing a non-perishable food or personal care item (e.g. shampoo, soap, toilet paper) to church when you come to Mass. There is a collection box at the entrance to the church. We try to fill the Food Cupboard after each Sunday Mass. Thank you so much!

GRATULACJE! Congratulations to Krista Ann Starzomski, who completed the Boston Marathon!

OUR POLISH-THEMED RADIO SEGMENTS: The Coast Radio 89.7 (weekdays at 3:50pm and 7:50pm or any time at coastalradio.ca). This coming week's topic will be the Zakopane style of architecture and art. Thank you to Jo-Ann Dziubek-MacDonald for lending her voice to this segment. This segment is sponsored in memory of Mary Wrόblewski Pierrynowski by Wandzi Pierrynowski.
NOTE:
We’ll be recording another round of radio segments this Friday. If you could lend your voice, please let Tom Urbaniak know
We’re always looking for sponsors and volunteers. It’s $100 for a whole week. Sponsors are recognized on air – and any dedications, too (eg. if you’re sponsoring as a memorial or as a birthday or anniversary gift). The Coast is generously redirecting the sponsorships back to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society (which produces the segments), which has been a big help to the Society. If you think you might like to sponsor a week, please e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca or call 563-1226. Many thanks!

PUBLIC HEALTH PROTOCOLS – MASKS ARE STILL RECOMMENDED. Thanks for all your kindness, patience, and co-operation.

FATHER RICH’S COLUMN: Niech będzie pochwalony Jezus Chrystus! Praise be Jesus Christ! Last Sunday afternoon our church was totally full of the faithful who came from various parishes to celebrate the Feast of Divine Mercy. Many were in our beautiful church for the very first time! I accepted the offer to have our parish be guests for the celebrating of Mass for Shut-Ins. The Mass for the fifth Sunday of Easter will be recorded next Saturday, April 29 at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church. Gathering time is 10:00am. As in the past, I encourage participants to wear some sign of our identity such as Polish costume, shawl, St. Michael’s jacket, Polish tartan etc. All parishioners and friends of our parish are invited to the TV Mass. The Mass will be televised on the following Sunday, May 7th on CTV stations across Canada and also accessible on Youtube worldwide. Next Sunday, April 30th I would like to meet with the parents and children who will be prepared for the reception of the Sacraments of Penance and Eucharist (First Holy Communion) in our parish Sala after Mass. I will distribute the childrens’ catechism books and lesson plans. We hope to have Bishop Wayne Kirkpatrick come again to our parish on a Sunday in October to celebrate the Mass. Also, we hope to have prepared Anthony Melski for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Although still in the Easter season we will soon be entering the beautiful month of May that is dedicated in a special way to the Blessed Virgin Mary, our mother. Sunday, May 7th we will observe the Feast of Our Lady Queen of Poland and also have a crowning ceremony of a statue of Our Lady. We will sing a bilingual litany to the Blessed Mother the Sundays of May and also recite or sing the litany at the conclusion of weekday Masses in May. I have had several inquiries about the Poland Tour. As a larger bus has been secured, I encourage those who ever wished to go to Poland to take advantage of this opportunity. It is important that any potential pilgrim traveler have a valid passport that is good six months beyond the return month of July. I would like to meet those that are going on the trip before I return to Las Vegas. I will contact them by phone to set a meeting date and time. Have a blessed week! – Fr. Rich

A NOTE OF THANKS: Dr. Roman Szełemej, Mayor of Wałbrzych, this past week personally asked to pass along his thanks for the incredible fund-raising efforts of our parish – and friends of our parish -- to help his city (CBRM’s twin city) look after thousands of Ukrainian refugees. Tom Urbaniak was in Wałbrzych this week on CBU business. But while there, he had a meeting with Fr. Dr. Wiesław Rusin, pastor of Holy Guardian Angels Church – the mother church of the city. Father Rusin is a humble and positive, open and well-respected pastor in the city, and there was a good conversation about ways we might be able to work together in the future, including maybe in the future having visiting priests who would like to spend some time with us improving their English and working with us in the parish at the same time. These are very early initial conversations, but at least the contact has been established. Thanks to Arek Grudzień for setting up the meeting. There’s a photo on our parish Facebook of Father Rusin receiving some tokens of friendship from our parish.
