OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

ŚWIĘCONKA PARISH EASTER BRUNCH will take place after Mass on Sunday, April 23, in Sala 1050. Please bring a dish If you can. Please feel free to bring what you wish, but of particular interest this time are any items that you would find at a typical Polish Easter breakfast such as eggs or dishes with eggs, sausage, cheese, ham, pickles, babki, poppy seed cake, other cakes, some rye bread. We will have some additional eggs on hand to bless and share as per the Polish tradition. Everyone is welcome.

LOOKING AHEAD TOWARD MAY 2nd and 3rd: We would be so delighted if you could reserve the afternoon of Tuesday, May 2, and the evening of Tuesday, May 3 on your schedule (International Polonia Day and Feast of Mary Queen of Poland/Polish Constitution Day). On Tuesday, May 2, we will have a Polish Café at the Polish Village Hall. Students from Whitney Pier Memorial will present the artistic fence posts they have been making for the Twin City Pocket Park. At 8:00pm on Tuesday, May 3, we will be hosting on Zoom a lecture for the Polish holiday. The well-known Polish-American author on Polish folk traditions Sophie Hodorowicz Knab will join us! Her books are a delight! The cover of one of them is shown here. This lecture will be dedicated to the memory of Steve Melnick.

FUND-RAISING FOR UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE: We are using all the funds raised to support three charities that are directly helping refugees and displaced people either within Ukraine itself or who have fled to Poland. Our largest chunk of support has been going to our sister city Wałbrzych’s Ukrainian refugee assistance fund (via the CBRM). We are also supporting Caritas efforts on the ground (via the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace) and the Catholic Near East Welfare Association. We have special envelopes (marked “Ukrainian Humanitarian Assistance”) at the back of the church if you are considering making a contribution. Thank you for your support in the midst of all the suffering caused by this terrible invasion.

VEHICLE PLATES: Cape Breton Polonia and Nova Scotia Polonia front vehicle plates are still available at the back of the church. $25.00 each

FOOD CUPBOARD: Please consider bringing a non-perishable food or personal care item (e.g. shampoo, soap, toilet paper) to church when you come to Mass. There is a collection box at the entrance to the church. We try to fill the Food Cupboard after each Sunday Mass. Thank you so much!

OUR POLISH-THEMED RADIO SEGMENTS: The Coast Radio 89.7 (weekdays at 3:50pm and 7:50pm or any time at coastalradio.ca). This coming week's topic will be Twaróg Polish Farmers’ Cheese. Thank you to Wandzi Pierrynowski for lending her voice to this segment. This segment is dedicated to John Morykot on the occasion of his 80th birthday!
We’re always looking for sponsors and volunteers. It’s $100 for a whole week. Sponsors are recognized on air – and any dedications, too (eg. if you’re sponsoring as a memorial or as a birthday or anniversary gift). The Coast is generously redirecting the sponsorships back to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society (which produces the segments), which has been a big help to the Society. If you think you might like to sponsor a week, please e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca or call 563-1226. Many thanks!

PUBLIC HEALTH PROTOCOLS – MASKS ARE STILL RECOMMENDED. Thanks for all your kindness, patience, and co-operation.

FATHER RICH’S COLUMN: Chrystus Zmartwychwstal! Prawdziwie Zmartwychwstal! Christ is Risen! He is truly Risen ! Alleluia! Today we conclude the Octave of Easter, but the Easter season continues to Pentecost Sunday. It was proclaimed on the second Sunday of Easter in the year 2000, that Saint Pope John Paul II at the canonization ceremony of Blessed Faustina Kowalska, the Polish nun who died at the age of Christ 33 in 1938. The Pope announced to the world that henceforth this Sunday after Easter would be the Feast of Divine Mercy for the universal Church. Since I learned that there are no special services at other churches in our area, I decided we would have a special celebration today at 3:00pm. It will be preceded with an hour of Eucharistic adoration of the Blessed Sacrament beginning at 2:00pm. I will be available for confession in the reconciliation room during that hour. I am painfully aware that very many of our parishioners have not confessed their sins for years. I hope that there will be penitents coming to receive the graces that flow from that sacrament of mercy. At 3:00pm. I will have a talk relating to my own experiences regarding Saint Faustina and Divine Mercy devotion, the chaplet will be sung and Benediction will conclude the service. I want to sincerely thank all those who contributed to the beauty of our Holy Week and Easter services. To the church decorators, readers, our organist, choir singers, lectors, ushers , former altar servers who assisted with the Resurrection procession, bearer of the Resurrection picture, donors of flowers and generous donors to Loaves and Fishes and those who delivered the Easter baskets. A sincere “Bog Zaplac” (May God repay you) to all! Regarding the Poland Pilgrimage Tour, we have six persons from our parish and with a possible another three very interested . We would be joining a larger group from Las Vegas, I learned that we will have a larger motorcoach for the trip and that it appears that there are still seats available on the Condor flight from Halifax. If someone is interested, please let me know. Please plan on attending our communal parish “Swieconka” Easter brunch next Sunday after Mass. Have a blessed week! – Fr. Rich
