OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

STO LAT! Birthday blessings to Judi McCarron and to Anna Wesołkowska. Wszystkiego dobrego! Wishing you health and happiness.

THANK YOU to Marilyn and Joe Gillis who were the Altar Society designated volunteers in January and to Stephanie Black and Sophie O’Toole, the designated Altar Society volunteers for February.

AN INVITATION TO A GATHERING / POTLUCK AT OUR CHURCH WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF OTHER CHURCHES IN THE AREA: Monday evening at 6:30pm. Gathering in our church (Sala 1050) with guests from other churches (KAIROS network) to discuss how churches can assist with the housing situation in our community, including what churches are already doing and what we could be doing. Fellow parishioners are warmly welcomed. We will have a simple potluck with this gathering, so if you’re able to bring a dish of something to share that would be received with gratitude (but totally voluntary). Many thanks!

NEXT SUNDAY: As next Sunday is the Sunday before Lent and the Sunday closest to Tłusty Czwartek (Fat Thursday), we will try to have some pączki (the most common pastry for this time of year) or another special treat – no charge – along with coffee and tea after Mass.

BLESSED GROMNICE CANDLES: We still have a few blessed Gromnice Candles from last week. They are at the back of the church.

ASH WEDNESDAY is Wednesday, February 22. We will have Mass at our church at 12:10pm on Ash Wednesday. (There will be no 6:30pm Mass in our church that day, but there will be an Ash Wednesday Mass at St. Theresa’s at that time.

VEHICLE PLATES: Cape Breton Polonia and Nova Scotia Polonia front vehicle plates are still available at the back of the church. $25.00 each

FUND-RAISING FOR UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE: This past Monday at our Polish Café we recognized DeeDee Yurchesyn Jackson for her kindness in making hand-made tea towels to support our efforts for Ukrainian humanitarian assistance! We presented her with the parish cookbook and The Polish Cape Bretoners Colouring book as a token of appreciation! DeeDee has prepared more tea towels and these are at the entrance to the church. If you know anyone who would appreciate one, that would be really great. We are using all the funds raised to support three charities that are directly helping refugees and displaced people either within Ukraine itself or who have fled to Poland. Our largest chunk of support has been going to our sister city Wałbrzych’s Ukrainian refugee assistance fund (via the CBRM). We are also supporting Caritas efforts on the ground (via the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace) and the Catholic Near East Welfare Association. We have special envelopes (marked “Ukrainian Humanitarian Assistance”) at the back of the church if you are considering making a contribution. Thank you for your support!

FOOD CUPBOARD: Please consider bringing a non-perishable food or personal care item (e.g. shampoo, soap, toilet paper) to church when you come to Mass. These items will help stock our food cupboard outside the Polish Village Hall. There is a significant need in our community. Thank you for any help. Thank you to Krista Ann Starzomski’s students who recently filled the Food Cupboard.

OUR POLISH-THEMED RADIO SEGMENTS: The Coast Radio 89.7 (weekdays at 3:50pm and 7:50pm or any time at coastalradio.ca). We will be recording another round of segments this Friday! This coming week's topic will beTŁUSTY CZWARTEK – FAT THURSDAY. This segment is sponsored in memory of Steve Melnick from Tom Urbaniak and Alison Etter.
We’re always looking for sponsors and volunteers. It’s $100 for a whole week. Sponsors are recognized on air – and any dedications, too (eg. if you’re sponsoring as a memorial or as a birthday or anniversary gift). The Coast is generously redirecting the sponsorships back to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society (which produces the segments), which has been a big help to the Society. If you think you might like to sponsor a week, please e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca or call 563-1226. Many thanks!

PUBLIC HEALTH PROTOCOLS – MASKS ARE STILL STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. Thanks for all your kindness, patience, and co-operation through the pandemic.

COLLECTION FOR FEBRUARY 5: $1160.40, including $170.00 for fuel. Sincere thanks for your generosity.

MEETING: Board meeting for the Atlantic Canada District of the Canadian Polish Congress, this evening (Sunday) at 8:00pm on Zoom

THANKS VERY KINDLY FOR YOUR DONATIONS TO OUR PARISH : We are truly grateful for everyone’s generosity through the pandemic. If you are attending Mass, you will find a collection basket near the entrance and exit (since we are not passing around the basket due to the public health restrictions). Also, please free to use the mail: St. Mary’s Polish Parish, 21 Wesley St., Sydney, NS, B1N 2M5. Donations can also be made securely on-line at Canada Helps (which will email you an instant tax receipt):   https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/st-marys-polish-parish/. (link to this site is provided on our parish website homepage). Thanks for your support!

A few photos from our Polish Café this past Monday. We decorated gromnice candles, learned Polish words and sayings, enjoyed some of Joan’s paczki, Donna’s tableware, and items that some of our attendees graciously brought in. It was a mixture of generations. Thanks to Bob and Joe, our musicians. Thanks as well to Krista Ann and students from Whitney Pier Memorial, Thanks to everyone who helped in every way. If you are seeing these in black and white (paper copy of the bulletin), you can see these and other photos in colour on the Facebook page of the Polish Village Hall or St. Mary’s Polish Parish
