OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

CONDOLENCES: Our parish extends heartfelt condolences on the passing of Leona (Melski) Hamper. May she rest in peace, and may her family experience comfort and support in the time ahead. Wieczny odpoczynek racz Jej dać Panie.

STO LAT! Wishing many blessings for Ursula Melski on her birthday!

POLAND 2023 PILGRIMAGE TOUR MEETING: Today 11:00am, in Sala 1050

OPŁATEK MASS AND POTLUCK: Next Sunday, January 15. This is our special annual Opłatek Mass and potluck, where we exchange a meal and the traditional Polish Christmas wafer. Mass will be at 11:00am that day (there will be no 9:30am Mass that day) followed by the potluck at the Polish Village Hall. Bishop Wayne Kirkpatrick will join us that day. Thank you to anyone and everyone who can bring a dish to the Opłatek.

POP-UP "JASELKA": This is like a little traditional Christmas pageant but with a very Polish spin! It’s a heart-warming tradition. We will do a fun version in person at the Oplatek on January 15, but similar to what we did on-line the past couple of years. We will have no collective rehearsals, but we would give you a line in Polish and a character (eg. shepherd, angel, etc). We’ll give you a recording of your line to help with Polish pronunciation. We will give out the lines one week in advance. If you would like a line, please just say the word and it will be great to have you in it! Absolutely no previous experience with the Polish language is required. We’re not aiming for any kind of perfection, just a chance to come together as a community and keep our unique traditions going.

ALTAR SOCIETY: Sincere thanks to Janet Hawthorne and Evelyn Wojcik who were our designated volunteers for December. And thank you to Marilyn and Joe Gillis, our designated Altar Society volunteers for January.

VEHICLE PLATES: Cape Breton Polonia and Nova Scotia Polonia front vehicle plates are still available at the back of the church. $25.00 each

FUND-RAISING FOR UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE: We are using all the funds raised to support three charities that are directly helping refugees and displaced people either within Ukraine itself or who have fled to Poland. Our largest chunk of support has been going to our sister city Wałbrzych’s Ukrainian refugee assistance fund (via the CBRM). We are also supporting Caritas efforts on the ground (via the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace) and the Catholic Near East Welfare Association. We have special envelopes (marked “Ukrainian Humanitarian Assistance”) at the back of the church if you are considering making a contribution. Thank you for your support!

FOOD CUPBOARD: Please consider bringing a non-perishable food or personal care item (e.g. shampoo, soap, toilet paper) to church when you come to Mass. These items will help stock our food cupboard outside the Polish Village Hall. There is a significant need in our community. Thank you for any help. Thank you to Krista Ann Starzomski’s students who recently filled the Food Cupboard.

OUR POLISH-THEMED RADIO SEGMENTS: The Coast Radio 89.7 (weekdays at 3:50pm and 7:50pm or any time at coastalradio.ca). This coming week's topic will be the Polish “kolęda” home visit / blessing tradition. Thank you to Father Rich for lending his voice to this segment and to Joe and Patricia Ryba for sponsoring this week’s segment.
We’re always looking for sponsors and volunteers. It’s $100 for a whole week. Sponsors are recognized on air – and any dedications, too (eg. if you’re sponsoring as a memorial or as a birthday or anniversary gift). The Coast is generously redirecting the sponsorships back to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society (which produces the segments), which has been a big help to the Society. If you think you might like to sponsor a week, please e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca or call 563-1226. Many thanks!

PUBLIC HEALTH PROTOCOLS – MASKS ARE STILL STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. Thanks for all your kindness, patience, and co-operation through the pandemic.

COLLECTION FOR CHRISTMAS $3,911.25, including $350.00 for the Building Fund.
COLLECTION FOR NEW YEAR'S $1,290.00, including $75.00 for the Building Fund. Sincere thanks for your generosity.

FATHER RICH’S COLUMN: This is Three Kings Sunday when the Christ Child was visited by Magi / Wise Men / Kings who represented the non-Jewish world (Gentiles). They brought symbolic gifts for Him. Today at Mass we bless chalk and incense. There are small bags with the blessed chalk and incense that you may take back to your homes. I will officially begin the period of "Kolęda" or blessing of homes of parishioners. You may still call the Glebe House (564-4847) to arrange a time this week. This Sunday, an informational meeting will take place about the 2023 Poland Heritage Pilgrimage Tour planned for May 27-June 10, 2023 at 11:00am in Sala 1050. We will prepare for viewing of Mass for Shut Ins at 11:30am. After the pastoral visitation of Bishop Wayne Joseph Kirkpatrick next Sunday and our annual "Opłatek" gathering, I will again return to Las Vegas for a little over two months. Father Evo will resume his duties as administrator until I return at the end of March before Holy Week. We extend our sincere condolences to the Hamper and Melski families upon the passing away of Leona less than 3 months after the death of her husband, James. May God grant her eternal rest, happiness and peace! Wieczny odpoczynek racz Jej dac Panie! You will find the totals for the offerings for Christmas and New Year's in today's bulletin. Sincere thanks to all of our parishioners and friends who support our church! Serdeczne Bog Zaplac! Please remember the special Mass time next Sunday at 11:00am. Please come to Mass and plan to attend the Oplatek in the Polish Village Hall after Mass. Thank you to anyone who can bring a dish for the potluck. Have a blessed week ahead! – Fr. Rich

CIASTO TRZECH KRÓLI (THREE KINGS CAKE): It’s common in Poland to serve a special cake on this day. If your slice has an almond in it, you’ll be considered a “king” or “queen” for the year and supposedly have good fortune.
