OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

POLAND 2023 PILGRIMAGE TOUR MEETING: Next Sunday, 11:00am, in Sala 1050

OPŁATEK MASS AND POTLUCK: Sunday, January 15. This is our special annual Opłatek Mass and potluck, where we exchange a meal and the traditional Polish Christmas wafer. Mass will be at 11:00am that day (there will be no 9:30am Mass that day) followed by the potluck at the Polish Village Hall. Bishop Wayne Kirkpatrick will join us that day. Thank you to anyone and everyone who can bring a dish to the Opłatek.

POP-UP "JASELKA": This is like a little traditional Christmas pageant but with a very Polish spin! It’s a heart-warming tradition. We will do a fun version in person at the Oplatek on January 15, but similar to what we did on-line the past couple of years. We will have no collective rehearsals, but we would give you a line in Polish and a character (eg. shepherd, angel, etc). We’ll give you a recording of your line to help with Polish pronunciation. We will give out the lines one week in advance. If you would like a line, please just say the word and it will be great to have you in it! Absolutely no previous experience with the Polish language is required. We’re not aiming for any kind of perfection, just a chance to come together as a community and keep our unique traditions going.

VEHICLE PLATES: Cape Breton Polonia and Nova Scotia Polonia front vehicle plates are still available at the back of the church. $25.00 each

FUND-RAISING FOR UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE: We are using all the funds raised to support three charities that are directly helping refugees and displaced people either within Ukraine itself or who have fled to Poland. Our largest chunk of support has been going to our sister city Wałbrzych’s Ukrainian refugee assistance fund (via the CBRM). We are also supporting Caritas efforts on the ground (via the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace) and the Catholic Near East Welfare Association. We have special envelopes (marked “Ukrainian Humanitarian Assistance”) at the back of the church if you are considering making a contribution. Thank you for your support!

FOOD CUPBOARD: Please consider bringing a non-perishable food or personal care item (e.g. shampoo, soap, toilet paper) to church when you come to Mass. These items will help stock our food cupboard outside the Polish Village Hall. There is a significant need in our community. Thank you for any help. A big thanks to Julie Tynski’s colleagues at McInnes Cooper for the significant recent collection for the Food Cupboard. Also thank you to Krista Ann Starzomski’s students for filling the Food Cupboard.

OUR POLISH-THEMED RADIO SEGMENTS: The Coast Radio 89.7 (weekdays at 3:50pm and 7:50pm or any time at coastalradio.ca). This coming week's topic will be January as an active continuation of the Christmas season in Polish Catholic pracitce. Thank you to Stephanie Black for lending her voice. And thank you to Father Rich for sponsoring this week’s segment!
We’re always looking for sponsors and volunteers. It’s $100 for a whole week. Sponsors are recognized on air – and any dedications, too (eg. if you’re sponsoring as a memorial or as a birthday or anniversary gift). The Coast is generously redirecting the sponsorships back to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society (which produces the segments), which has been a big help to the Society. If you think you might like to sponsor a week, please e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca or call 563-1226. Many thanks!

PUBLIC HEALTH PROTOCOLS – MASKS ARE STILL STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. Thanks for all your kindness, patience, and co-operation through the pandemic.

COLLECTION FOR CHRISTMAS will be published in next week’s bulletin. Many thanks, everyone, for your kindness and generosity!

THANKS VERY KINDLY FOR YOUR DONATIONS TO OUR PARISH : We are truly grateful for everyone’s generosity through the pandemic. If you are attending Mass, you will find a collection basket near the entrance and exit (since we are not passing around the basket due to the public health restrictions). Also, please free to use the mail: St. Mary’s Polish Parish, 21 Wesley St., Sydney, NS, B1N 2M5. Donations can also be made securely on-line at Canada Helps (which will email you an instant tax receipt):   https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/st-marys-polish-parish/. (link to this site is provided on our parish website homepage). Thanks for your support!

THANKS to everyone who helped with the New Year’s Eve celebration.

MASS FOR SHUT-INS: Our parish’s recording of Mass for Shut-Ins will be broadcast next Sunday, January 8, at 11:30am on CTV. (It’s also broadcast on many CTV stations across the country, so please feel free to share the info with family members)

FATHER RICH’S COLUMN: We conclude the octave of Christmas with the Solemnity of Mary Mother of God on this first day of the New Year. January 1st is also World Day of Prayer for Peace as the war unleashed on our Ukrainian cousins continues with horrible atrocities and human loss and suffering. I wish to thank all those who made our Christmas a most beautiful experience at St. Mary's Church. Special thanks to our organist, St. Cecelia Choir, lectors, ushers, altar server, church decorators. We are grateful for all the material support of our parish and the continued support for helping the Ukrainian refugees in our sister city of Wałbrzych, Poland. I want thank those parishioners who remembered me with Christmas greeting cards, gift cards and cash gifts. May God reward you - Bog Zaplac! This week there will be Mass daily at 6:30pm except Thursday and Saturday at 9:00am. Next Sunday we will celebrate the Epiphany of the Lord, also known as Three Kings Sunday. I will bless small packets of chalk and incense which are the symbolic gifts by the Three Kings (Wise Men) to the Christ Child. The following week I will devote to the traditional blessing and visiting of parishioner homes so called Koleda. I will call and confirm the time of the visit from the returned forms that were placed on the tables. Next Sunday, January 8th will be the first informational meeting at 11:00am for the Poland Pilgrimage Tour planned for May 27-June 10th with our Nova Scotia group joining a larger group from Las Vegas in Poland. Please remember that Sunday, January 15th we will have the pastoral visitation of our Bishop Wayne Joseph Kirkpatrick of the Diocese of Antigonish at a special 11:00am Mass ( NO 9:30 Mass that Sunday). After Mass, the annual "OPŁATEK " will take place potluck style in St. Michael's Polish Village Hall. Thank you to anyone and everyone who can bring a dish.
