OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

VETERANS: Today, we will read the names and pray for the deceased veterans of our parish. We honour them.

LUNCH AFTER MASS TODAY: Everyone is welcome. We will celebrate Polish Independence Day. We will be joined at the lunch after Mass today by Rod and Peter Farrell of the St. Barra’s Community (Christmas Island). Their community is making a very generous contribution to our Ukrainian humanitarian fund-raising efforts. God bless!

SWIĘTO NIEPODLEGŁOŚCI – NOVEMBER 11 -- A DAY OF REMEMBRANCE AND HOPE: November 11th, the day of the armistice ending World War I in 1918, is also the day when Poland became an independent country again after a long period of occupation. Some of the ancestors of our parishioners were involved in that struggle. As such, for people of Polish heritage, November 11th is a holiday of both remembrance and hope. For the 123 years before 1918, Poland had been partitioned between Russia, Austria-Hungary, and Germany/Prussia. Between 1918 and 1939, Poland maintained its independence. However, the beginning of World War II on September 1, 1939, saw the country invaded first by Germany and then by the Soviet Union. The first Chief of State of the post-1918 independent Poland was the legendary Józef Piłsudski, whose portrait is at the Polish Village Hall.

THANK YOU to Larry, Tony, and Kevin Gniewek for representing our parish by laying a wreath at the Pier Legion Remembrance Day ceremony.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF THE ATLANTIC CANADA DISTRICT OF THE CANADIAN POLISH CONGRESS: The in-person AGM alternates between Halifax and Cape Breton. This year, it is in Halifax on Saturday, November 19, at 12:30pm. If you would like to attend, you’d be most welcome. Please contact Tom Urbaniak for details. The meeting will be followed by a social event.

THANK YOU, everyone, for last Sunday’s Annual General Meeting of the parish. We had updates, financial reports, and Rada nominations. God bless everyone who volunteers in any way for our parish.

ST. MICHAEL’S POLISH BENEFIT SOCIETY: Thursday, November 24, 8:00pm Special on-line presentation about the Cape Breton component of the future Canadian Polish Heritage Trail and about solar/greening for the Polish Village Hall. This will be of general interest. Dean Chalmers of the Verschuren Centre will join us to discuss the latter component. For a Zoom link or phone number to dial in please call 902-563-1226; e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca

HAND-MADE DISH CLOTHS – FUNDRAISER FOR UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE: at the back of the church. These beautiful unique dishcloths have been handmade by Dee-Dee (Yurczyszyn) Jackson and her sister Brenda Yurczyszyn and were donated to us (via Marjorie Ardelli) for the Ukrainian humanitarian fund. Available small size 2 for $5, large size $3 each.

VEHICLE PLATES: Cape Breton Polonia and Nova Scotia Polonia front vehicle plates are still available at the back of the church. $25.00 each

UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE: Thank you for your continued support in the midst of this terrible human suffering. Special envelopes are at the back of the church. Or you can contribute via our CanadaHelps page. We are supporting our sister city Wałbrzych’s refugee assistance fund (via direct transfer from the CBRM), the Catholic Near East Welfare Association, and the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace.

FOOD CUPBOARD: Please consider bringing a non-perishable food or personal care item (e.g. shampoo, soap, toilet paper) to church when you come to Mass. These items will help stock our food cupboard outside the Polish Village Hall. There is a significant need in our community. Thank you for any help.

OUR POLISH-THEMED RADIO SEGMENTS: The Coast Radio 89.7 (weekdays at 3:50pm and 7:50pm or any time at coastalradio.ca). This coming week's topic will be the Polish word “przepraszam” – for sorry, excuse me. Special thanks to guest Marjorie Ardelli. This week’s segment is dedicated in memory of Jim Hamper, former member of the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society.
We’re always looking for sponsors and volunteers. It’s $100 for a whole week. Sponsors are recognized on air – and any dedications, too (eg. if you’re sponsoring as a memorial or as a birthday or anniversary gift). The Coast is generously redirecting the sponsorships back to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society (which produces the segments), which has been a big help to the Society. If you think you might like to sponsor a week, please e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca or call 563-1226. Many thanks!
