OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

FR. RICH REPORTS: Niech bedzie pochwlony Jezus Chrystus! I am grateful for Bishop Kilpatrick's appointment as Pastor of the parish (even though I did not ask for it!) when I am in residence. I plan to spend a little over six months of the year here during the most important times of the church calendar year: Conclusion of Advent season, Christmas, New Year's, and Koleda house blessing visits. The second time will be before the end of Lent, Palm Sunday, Holy Week, Easter, Divine Mercy Sunday, and up to the May 3rd Celebration. The third period will be from July through October and include All Saints and All Souls Day. In my absence, Father Evo DiPierro (Pastor of St. Theresa’s) will act as administrator and cover the reduced Mass schedule of Sunday and Wednesday Masses. I am most grateful for his willingness to be there when I am away. Please note my local cell number (902- 595-4242) to reach me when I do not answer the glebe phone (which has not been in service since the hurricane). I have in the past two weeks made some home visits with Holy Communion. If there is anyone from our parish family who has not been to church for various reasons and would like to receive the Eucharist at home or make a confession, then please contact me by calling me. 16th of October (Feast of St. Hedwig of Silesia): marks the 44th anniversary of the election of Cardinal Karol Wojtyla as Pope of the universal Church. Our parishioners will never forget the visit of St. John Paul II to Nova Scotia in 1984 and the special meeting with him at Shearwater Airport in Dartmouth

HAND-MADE DISH CLOTHS – FUNDRAISER FOR UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE: These beautiful unique dishcloths have been handmade by Dee-Dee (Yurczyszyn) Jackson and her sister Brenda Yurczyszyn and were donated to us (via Marjorie Ardelli) for the Ukrainian humanitarian fund. Available small size 2 for $5, large size 1 for $3. The dish cloths will be in the Sala after Mass or please touch base with Marjorie.

CABBAGE ROLL MAKING: Friday, October 21, at 10:00am, Sala 1050. We would be grateful for any help. The cabbage rolls will be for Saturday's (Oct. 22) Polish take-out dinners, available 11:00am-1:00pm at Sala 1050. A gentle reminder that no ticket sales will take place at the door.

POLISH HERITAGE MONTH ACTIVITIES: We are working on rescheduling some of the Polish Heritage Month activities that were pre-empted by Hurricane Fiona to the week of November 7, around Polish Independence Day. We have already confirmed Monday, November 7, 1:00pm at the Polish Village Hall for a café, recipe exchange, and presentation by students of wycinanki Polish paper art.

VEHICLE PLATES: Some Nova Scotia Polonia front vehicle plates are still available.

UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE: Thank you for your continued support in the midst of this terrible human suffering. Special envelopes are at the back of the church. Or you can contribute via our CanadaHelps page. We are supporting our sister city Wałbrzych’s refugee assistance fund, the Catholic Near East Welfare Association, and the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace.

FOOD CUPBOARD: Please consider bringing a non-perishable food or personal care item (e.g. shampoo, soap, toilet paper) to church when you come to Mass. These items will help stock our food cupboard outside the Polish Village Hall. There is a significant need in our community. Thank you for any help.

OUR POLISH-THEMED RADIO SEGMENTS: The Coast Radio 89.7 (weekdays at 3:50pm and 7:50pm or any time at coastalradio.ca). This coming week's topic will be Greening the Polish Village Hall, including the forthcoming solar project, with guest Dean Chalmers of the Verschuren Centre. The segment is dedicated to St. Mary's Polish Parish in recognition of the valued and appreciated collaboration and support between the parish and the Society.
We’re always looking for sponsors and volunteers. It’s $100 for a whole week. Sponsors are recognized on air – and any dedications, too (eg. if you’re sponsoring as a memorial or as a birthday or anniversary gift). The Coast is generously redirecting the sponsorships back to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society (which produces the segments), which has been a big help to the Society. If you think you might like to sponsor a week, please e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca or call 563-1226. Many thanks!

PUBLIC HEALTH PROTOCOLS – MASKS ARE STILL STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. Thanks for all your kindness, patience, and co-operation through the pandemic.

THANKS VERY KINDLY FOR YOUR DONATIONS TO OUR PARISH : We are truly grateful for everyone’s generosity through the pandemic. If you are attending Mass, you will find a collection basket near the entrance and exit (since we are not passing around the basket due to the public health restrictions). Also, please free to use the mail: St. Mary’s Polish Parish, 21 Wesley St., Sydney, NS, B1N 2M5. Donations can also be made securely on-line at Canada Helps (which will email you an instant tax receipt):   https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/st-marys-polish-parish/. (link to this site is provided on our parish website homepage). Thanks for your support!

LITERARY CHALLENGE: As described by Consul General Wisniewski when he visited us on Sept. 11. The poem / ballad we’ll be learning is Adam Mickiewicz’s famous Powrόt Taty. Here is the link to the poem that we will be invited to read together at an upcoming lunch. It is about children whose prayers were answered for their father’s safety when he was attacked on a lonely road: https://literat.ug.edu.pl/amwiersz/0012.htm
