OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

A WARM WELCOME TO FATHER EVO DiPIERRO!: Father Evo's first day was September 1st. And he hit the ground running at sunrise. Witamy Father Evo! At 6:15am on Thursday, September 1, we had a moving, participatory sunrise service (and release of doves) on the solemn 83rd anniversary of the invasion of Poland and the start of World War II. (The main part of the gathering moved inside due to rain.) A little reception followed in the Sala. Between 25 and 30 people attended, which was really appreciated for so early in the morning. Thanks to the readers, singers, flag bearers. Thanks for the extended silence and for the prayers to be peacemakers in our time. Father Evo was also here for Wednesday evening Mass. Last week, he hosted a get-together and conversation with Rada.

STO LAT! Best wishes to Jerry Pocius on his birthday. Many blessings Jerry! Su Gimimo Diena! ("Happy BIrthday" in Lithuanian)

FULL SCHEDULE FOR NOVA SCOTIA POLISH HERITAGE MONTH was on page 3 of the Cape Breton Post on Thursday. The full schedule and updates can also be found at www.PolishMonthNS.ca

NEXT SUNDAY: September 11 we will have a very special morning. At Mass, we will have special prayers for our parish to mark our 109th anniversary. Then we will proceed to the corner of Victoria Road and Franklin Street for the blessing of the future Twin City Pocket Park. After that, we will have a Polish Café at the Polish Village Hall. If you can bring a food item, please call 902-563-1226 or e-mail (tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca.) Many thanks for any help. We will unveil the beautiful “Polonia” decorative front license plates. They will be $25 each and issued by the St. Michael's Polish Benefit Society, with profits for Ukrainian humanitarian assistance for all plates sold during Polish Heritage Month

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 15: Evening of tribute to the late Johnny Paruch, featured artist for 2022 Nova Scotia Polish Heritage Month. 6:00pm Polish Village Hall. Polish hors d’oeuvres and refreshments. Presentation by Jerry Pocius about his research on Johnny. Some singing and music. No charge, but please RSVP to Shari McKay or to Tom Urbaniak. Hosted by Pogoria Polish Folk Ensemble and St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society.

PIEROGI PREPARATION FOR POLISH TAKE-OUT DINNERS: Monday, September 12 at 9:00am. We would be so grateful for anyone who can offer any assistance. No previous experience required. Many thanks!

TAKE-OUT DINNER TICKETS: (September 24, 11:00am-1:00pm at the church, $15.00) can be purchased after Mass from Stephanie Black or through the week by contacting Tom Urbaniak (902-563-1226 or e-mail (tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca.). Please note that quantities are limited and there will be no tickets at the door.

UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE: Thank you for your continued support in the midst of this terrible human suffering. Our parish’s contributions now total more than $27,500. Special envelopes are at the back of the church. Or you can contribute via our CanadaHelps page. In previous weeks’ bulletins, we had a more detailed description of how our support is helping displaced people directly on the ground with basic aid

FOOD CUPBOARD: Please consider bringing a non-perishable food or personal care item (e.g. shampoo, soap, toilet paper) to church when you come to Mass. These items will help stock our food cupboard outside the Polish Village Hall. There is a significant need in our community. Thank you for any help.

OUR POLISH-THEMED RADIO SEGMENTS: The Coast Radio 89.7 (weekdays at 3:50pm and 7:50pm or any time at coastalradio.ca). This coming week's topic will be The Twin City Pocket Park (honouring CBRM's sister city, Wałbrzych, Poland) - the site of which will be blessed next Sunday. Many thanks to Rita MacDonald for being the guest (she is helping us with project management - a different Rita MacDonald than our stalwart parishioner!) and to United Paving for being this week’s sponsor of the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society.
We’re always looking for sponsors and volunteers. It’s $100 for a whole week. Sponsors are recognized on air – and any dedications, too (eg. if you’re sponsoring as a memorial or as a birthday or anniversary gift). The Coast is generously redirecting the sponsorships back to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society (which produces the segments), which has been a big help to the Society. If you think you might like to sponsor a week, please e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca or call 563-1226. Many thanks!

PUBLIC HEALTH PROTOCOLS – MASKS ARE STILL STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. Thanks for all your kindness, patience, and co-operation through the pandemic.

FATHER RICH PHILIPOSKI will be arriving on September 9th. We recently did a thorough, professional cleaning of the O'Connell House. Father Rich will be residing there.

THE CONSUL GENERAL OF POLAND, Dariusz Wiśniewski, will be visiting us next weekend.

COLLECTION FOR AUGUST 28: $510.00 including $110.00 via CanadaHelps to Ukrainian humanitarian assistance. Many thanks, everyone, for your kindness and generosity!

THANKS VERY KINDLY FOR YOUR DONATIONS TO OUR PARISH : We are truly grateful for everyone’s generosity through the pandemic. If you are attending Mass, you will find a collection basket near the entrance and exit (since we are not passing around the basket due to the public health restrictions). Also, please free to use the mail: St. Mary’s Polish Parish, 21 Wesley St., Sydney, NS, B1N 2M5. Donations can also be made securely on-line at Canada Helps (which will email you an instant tax receipt):   https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/st-marys-polish-parish/. (link to this site is provided on our parish website homepage). Thanks for your support!

REQUEST FOR PHOTOS / THEME: GRANDPARENTS (DZIADKOWIE): Please help the CBU Beaton Institute put together a large, professionally designed collage during NS Polish Heritage Month! An Invitation to Cape Breton's Polish community -- in other words, anyone with Polish roots or who identifies with the Polish community (eg. through marriage or friendship)
-Please share with the Beaton Institute a few images of any or all of your grandparents, living or deceased. The photos can be old or very recent
-These images will be made into a large collage, which will be ready at the end of, or shortly after, Nova Scotia Polish Heritage Month (September)
-Your grandparents do not have to be Polish (The diversity of the Polish community is part of the story!)
-Photos can show your grandparents at any age (including when they were children)
-Action shots are welcome, not just portraits. There can be other people in the images, too.
-The place of the photos does not have to be Cape Breton (eg. it could be the "old country" or a vacation shot).
-Please handwrite (or type), if possible, a one- or two-line description of what we see in each photo you submit. (If you’re not sure of something, please put a “?”) Please write your name at the bottom of the description.
-If possible, please bring your photos to the Polish Cafe at the Polish Village Hall on Sunday, September 11. There will be a scanner on hand. Or please drop by the Beaton Institute at CBU any Tuesday to Friday, 9:00am to 4:00pm.
