OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

PRAYER REQUEST: Patricia Paruch has asked us to pray for her colleague and close friend who has stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Bóg zapłać for your prayers and good wishes.

GOD BLESS YOU, Father Dennis, as you move to your new assignment. Sincere thanks! And thanks to everyone who attended the send-off last Sunday afternoon. Our parish made a special presentation. It was a fuel gift card, plus we “adopted” a book in Father Dennis’s honour, which will be in circulation at the Cape Breton Regional Library, with a permanent inscription on the inside cover recognizing Father Dennis. It’s Pope Francis’s new book, A Gift of Joy and Hope.

STO LAT! STO LAT! Best wishes and many blessings to Vicky Aucoin on her birthday! Best wishes and many blessings to Michael Melski on his birthday! And happy wedding anniversary to Sophie and Roddie O’Toole!

BRIEF MEETING AFTER MASS TODAY IN SALA 1050: For anyone who might be able to help with any part of the Polish take-out dinners (leading up to Sept 24) for Polish Heritage Month. Numbers will be limited (150), all tickets will be sold in advance, and menu can be whatever works at this time.

FULL SCHEDULE FOR NOVA SCOTIA POLISH HERITAGE MONTH will be published in the Cape Breton Post on Wednesday.

PLEASE NOTE SOME UPCOMING DATES:
These are just a few upcoming events for NS Polish Heritage Month:
Thurs., Sept. 1: Sunrise (6:15am) – please join us at the parish grotto (indoors if it’s raining) to pray for peace on the anniversary of the invasion of Poland and the start of World War II. We will sing two hymns, have some prayers and readings, and release live doves! This will be a special time together. It will not be a long gathering, and it would be wonderful if you could make it.
Sun., Sept. 11: We will mark the 109th anniversary of our parish. Then we will proceed to the corner of Victoria Road and Franklin Street for the blessing of the future Twin City Pocket Park. After that, we will have a Polish Café at the Polish Village Hall. If you can bring a food item, please call 902-563-1226 or e-mail (tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca.) Many thanks for any help. “Polonia” front decorative car plates will be unveiled at the Polish Café on September 11. They will be $25 each. The profits for any plates sold during Polish Heritage Month will go to Ukrainian humanitarian assistance (same organizations as the parish is supporting).
Thurs., Sept. 15: Evening of tribute to the late Johnny Paruch, featured artist for 2022 Nova Scotia Polish Heritage Month. 6:00pm Polish Village Hall. Polish hors d’oeuvres and refreshments. Presentation by Jerry Pocius about his research on Johnny. Some singing and music. No charge, but please RSVP to Shari McKay or to Tom Urbaniak. Hosted by Pogoria Polish Folk Ensemble and St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society.
For other NS Polish Heritage Month events, please regularly check out www.PolishMonthNS.ca

UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE: Thank you for your continued support in the midst of this terrible human suffering. Our parish’s contributions now total more than $27,500. Special envelopes are at the back of the church. Or you can contribute via our CanadaHelps page. In previous weeks’ bulletins, we had a more detailed description of how our support is helping displaced people directly on the ground with basic aid

FOOD CUPBOARD: Please consider bringing a non-perishable food or personal care item (e.g. shampoo, soap, toilet paper) to church when you come to Mass. These items will help stock our food cupboard outside the Polish Village Hall. There is a significant need in our community. Thank you for any help.

OUR POLISH-THEMED RADIO SEGMENTS: The Coast Radio 89.7 (weekdays at 3:50pm and 7:50pm or any time at coastalradio.ca). This coming week's topic will be The anniversary of the invasion of Poland and the start of World War II – including a note on our parish’s special prayers at the grotto at sunrise on Thursday, September 1! Many thanks to Stephanie Black for being the guest and to Winnie Odo for being this week’s sponsor of the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society, in memory of Hector Raymond MacNeil, who was born in the Pier
We’re always looking for sponsors and volunteers. It’s $100 for a whole week. Sponsors are recognized on air – and any dedications, too (eg. if you’re sponsoring as a memorial or as a birthday or anniversary gift). The Coast is generously redirecting the sponsorships back to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society (which produces the segments), which has been a big help to the Society. If you think you might like to sponsor a week, please e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca or call 563-1226. Many thanks!

PUBLIC HEALTH PROTOCOLS – MASKS ARE STILL STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. Thanks for all your kindness, patience, and co-operation through the pandemic.

COLLECTION FOR AUGUST 14 & 21: $1,870.00 including $250 for the Building Fund in memory of Mike Petruskavich and $500 toward Polish Heritage Month (legacy book donation) in memory of Delores Starzomski. Many thanks, everyone, for your kindness and generosity!

THANKS VERY KINDLY FOR YOUR DONATIONS TO OUR PARISH : We are truly grateful for everyone’s generosity through the pandemic. If you are attending Mass, you will find a collection basket near the entrance and exit (since we are not passing around the basket due to the public health restrictions). Also, please free to use the mail: St. Mary’s Polish Parish, 21 Wesley St., Sydney, NS, B1N 2M5. Donations can also be made securely on-line at Canada Helps (which will email you an instant tax receipt):   https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/st-marys-polish-parish/. (link to this site is provided on our parish website homepage). Thanks for your support!

REQUEST FOR PHOTOS / THEME: GRANDPARENTS (DZIADKOWIE): Please help the CBU Beaton Institute put together a large, professionally designed collage during NS Polish Heritage Month! An Invitation to Cape Breton's Polish community -- in other words, anyone with Polish roots or who identifies with the Polish community (eg. through marriage or friendship)
-Please share with the Beaton Institute a few images of any or all of your grandparents, living or deceased. The photos can be old or very recent
-These images will be made into a large collage, which will be ready at the end of, or shortly after, Nova Scotia Polish Heritage Month (September)
-Your grandparents do not have to be Polish (The diversity of the Polish community is part of the story!)
-Photos can show your grandparents at any age (including when they were children)
-Action shots are welcome, not just portraits. There can be other people in the images, too.
-The place of the photos does not have to be Cape Breton (eg. it could be the "old country" or a vacation shot).
-Please handwrite (or type), if possible, a one- or two-line description of what we see in each photo you submit. (If you’re not sure of something, please put a “?”) Please write your name at the bottom of the description.
-If possible, please bring your photos to the Polish Cafe at the Polish Village Hall on Sunday, September 11. There will be a scanner on hand. Or please drop by the Beaton Institute at CBU any Tuesday to Friday, 9:00am to 4:00pm.
