OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

MATKA BOSKA ZIELNA: Today, Sunday, August 14, we will mark Matka Boska Zielna. The Feast Day of the Assumption of Mary is also called Matka Boska Zielna (Our Lady of the Herbs) in the Polish tradition. Fresh produce, flowers, and herbs are blessed on this day. Thank you for bringing some fresh vegetables, fruits, herbs, or flowers to place in baskets in front of the altar. We also have some items from our parish food garden in the baskets. (In many parts of rural Poland, some of the blessed flowers and herbs are taken home to place near a doorway as a symbol of our prayers for the home and for everyone who lives there.) We pray for Our Lady's intercession to protect people who work on the land, protect people and crops from natural disasters and heat waves, and protect the land and the environment during these difficult times.

STO LAT! Wishing many blessings to Jancia LaRusic on her birthday (Aug. 15)! Wishing many blessings to Sophie O’Toole on her birthday (Aug. 17)! Wszystkiego najlepszego!

FAREWELL BARBECUE FOR FATHER DENNIS: Sunday, August 21, 12 noon to 2:00pm, St. Theresa’s Parish Hall. Our parish will be contributing to this. Everyone is warmly welcomed. Please see the posters!

POLISH HERITAGE TALK: Tomorrow, Monday, Aug.15, 6:30pm at the Pier Legion. Maura Lea Morykot will be giving a short talk about her Polish heritage and upcoming events. Pogoria Polish Folk Ensemble will have a few songs. There will be some food and refreshments. Everyone is welcome.

PLEASE NOTE SOME UPCOMING DATES:
These are just a few upcoming events for NS Polish Heritage Month:
Thurs., Sept. 1: Sunrise – Short gathering of prayers for peace (parish grotto) –anniversary of invasion of Poland and start of WWII.
Sun., Sept. 11: After Mass: Blessing of the future Twin City Pocket Park / Polish Café – 109th anniversary of our parish.
Thurs., Sept. 15: Polish Village Hall, 6pm: Special tribute gathering/presentation -- the late Johnny Paruch
Sat., Sept. 24: Polish take-out dinners
Sun., Sept. 25: after Mass – St. Mary’s Polish Parish gathering at Father Greg MacLeod House – the group of students is kindly hosting us!

UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE: Thank you for your continued support in the midst of this terrible human suffering. Our parish’s contributions now total more than $27,500. Special envelopes are at the back of the church. Or you can contribute via our CanadaHelps page. In previous weeks’ bulletins, we had a more detailed description of how our support is helping displaced people directly on the ground with basic aid

FOOD CUPBOARD: Please consider bringing a non-perishable food or personal care item (e.g. shampoo, soap, toilet paper) to church when you come to Mass. These items will help stock our food cupboard outside the Polish Village Hall. There is a significant need in our community. Thank you for any help.

OUR POLISH-THEMED RADIO SEGMENTS: The Coast Radio 89.7 (weekdays at 3:50pm and 7:50pm or any time at coastalradio.ca). This coming week's topic will be A Polish proverb about the wolf in the woods! Many thanks to Kasia Jones for being the guest and to Bobby MacLean of Aggressive Metal Fabricators (who is working with us on the Twin City Pocket Park), August sponsor of the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society.
We’re always looking for sponsors and volunteers. It’s $100 for a whole week. Sponsors are recognized on air – and any dedications, too (eg. if you’re sponsoring as a memorial or as a birthday or anniversary gift). The Coast is generously redirecting the sponsorships back to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society (which produces the segments), which has been a big help to the Society. If you think you might like to sponsor a week, please e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca or call 563-1226. Many thanks!

PUBLIC HEALTH PROTOCOLS – MASKS ARE STILL STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. Thanks for all your kindness, patience, and co-operation through the pandemic.

COLLECTION FOR AUGUST 7: $4135.00 including $3000.00 for the Building fund. Many thanks, everyone, for your kindness and generosity!

THANKS VERY KINDLY FOR YOUR DONATIONS TO OUR PARISH : We are truly grateful for everyone’s generosity through the pandemic. If you are attending Mass, you will find a collection basket near the entrance and exit (since we are not passing around the basket due to the public health restrictions). Also, please free to use the mail: St. Mary’s Polish Parish, 21 Wesley St., Sydney, NS, B1N 2M5. Donations can also be made securely on-line at Canada Helps (which will email you an instant tax receipt):   https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/st-marys-polish-parish/. (link to this site is provided on our parish website homepage). Thanks for your support!

AN INVITATION FOR FEEDBACK (time-sensitive): Good news: We will have decorative "front license plates" available in time for Nova Scotia Polish Heritage Month. We have to confirm the design early next week. The idea is to actually go with all four of the options. These try to incorporate some earlier consultations. The objective is to make them simple, visible, distinctly Polish. Please share any feedback either by e-mail (tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca) -- or we can chat after Mass! Please Note: We still haven't abandoned the idea of an official, themed option of a Nova Scotia Polish Heritage license plate (on the back, issued by the province) -- not just decorative front license plates. But that proposal got caught in some red tape, and several people have suggested the "front-decorative" alternative for now! Dziękuję!
