OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

A NOTE FROM FATHER DENNIS:
My Dear Parishioners:
I am sorry to have to tell you that I will be leaving the Parish on August 30th to take up a new assignment. I had hoped to give this news in person, but since I was already scheduled to be away this weekend I could not change. The news was released sooner than I expected, as I was only aware myself on Monday.
Since I knew, the news was already getting out there, I thought I would put out a bulletin with this letter.
My Parish experience at St Mary’s Polish Parish has been a joy for me. The people I have gotten to know, to minister to, to become friends with, has been and will continue to be greatly cherished by me. We have weathered many storms, i.e. Covid etc…
It is not easy for me to leave and I will miss you all, you have all added blessing to my life and I hope in some small way I have allowed Christ’s great light to shine to you in your lives.
I have witnessed many blessings and they will become cherished memories.
Please know that I will carry you all in my prayers and in my heart.
Blessing to you all.    In Christ -  Fr Dennis
PS: I will be here for mass next week and weekend, and will be here until the end of August.

GRATULACJE i POWODZENIA! Welcome to our new parishioner, Laneah Nicole Elizabeth MacCormack, born on Friday! Congratulations, parents Nicole and Jeff! Congratulations grandparents! God bless all of you.

The family of Anne Tynski Redmond is extending heartfelt thanks to everyone from our parish who helped with Annie’s funeral Mass yesterday.

UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE: Thank you for your continued support in the midst of this terrible human suffering. Our parish’s contributions now total more than $27,500. Special envelopes are at the back of the church. Or you can contribute via our CanadaHelps page. In previous weeks’ bulletins, we had a more detailed description of how our support is helping displaced people directly on the ground with basic aid.

FOOD CUPBOARD: Please consider bringing a non-perishable food or personal care item (e.g. shampoo, soap, toilet paper) to church when you come to Mass. These items will help stock our food cupboard outside the Polish Village Hall. There is a significant need in our community. Thank you for any help.

GETTING READY FOR NOVA SCOTIA POLISH HERITAGE MONTH: Planning is well underway for September – with once again a range of activities, large and small. If you would like to do something in your home, school, workplace, or community organization to honour the month, please let us know. We will recognize it in the official calendar!

PLEASE CHECK OUT: The polishvillage.ca website for the recently posted President’s Report (2022) with an illustrated slide presentation of current and recent projects of the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society.

OUR POLISH-THEMED RADIO SEGMENTS: The Coast Radio 89.7 (weekdays at 3:50pm and 7:50pm or any time at coastalradio.ca). This coming week will featureExhibits on Polish Cape Bretoners with guest Jane Arnold, senior archivist of the Beaton Institute. This segment is dedicated in honour of Larry Gniewek, life member of the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society, in recognition of Larry’s continuing service to the Society!
We’re always looking for sponsors and volunteers. It’s $100 for a whole week. Sponsors are recognized on air – and any dedications, too (eg. if you’re sponsoring as a memorial or as a birthday or anniversary gift). The Coast is generously redirecting the sponsorships back to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society (which produces the segments), which has been a big help to the Society. If you think you might like to sponsor a week, please e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca or call 563-1226. Many thanks!

PUBLIC HEALTH PROTOCOLS – MASKS STILL STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. Thanks for all your kindness, patience, and co-operation through the pandemic.

TWIN CITY POCKET PARK: Funding has been received and work is getting underway this summer on the Twin City Pocket Park (corner of Victoria Road and Franklin St.) – a small but nice and prominent site to honour the twin city agreement between Wałbrzych, Poland, and the Cape Breton Regional Municipality. The site was designed by students in both cities. St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society and CBU have been coordinating and working with other partners.

WELCOME ONCE AGAIN THIS SUMMER TO AMRITPAL SINGH, CBU student who is working for the next several weeks – part time under the CBU work-study program – on refreshing the Kolonia Immigrant Heritage Parkette (at the bottom of Bryan St) and on setting the stage for the future Twin City Pocket Park. Amrit is great to work with.

Check out some pictures of the newly paved Polish Village Hall parking lot on the Polish Village Hall Facebook page:

OGRÓDEK / FOOD GARDEN: Once again this year, we are collaborating on our parish food garden with Pathways, which is a respected charity in our community that provides meaningful training, employment and volunteer opportunities for people in our community who are living with mental illness.

PARISH PROPERTY MAINTENANCE – NOTE OF THANKS: A big thank you to our property upkeep volunteers who, as always, are doing a great job this summer! Thanks, John, Kevin, Marjorie, Paul and everyone else who has been helping out

ALTAR SOCIETY SCHEDULE: A schedule for the next six months is being completed this weekend.  For Altar Society volunteers, if there are any months that won’t work for you, a kind request to send/leave a quick message: tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca/902-563-1226. Also, new volunteers are warmly welcomed. Essentially the role is to prepare the church for Mass. You and another volunteer are assigned to two months out of the year. Bόg zapłać!

COLLECTION FOR JULY 3: $1305.00, including $100.00 for Ukrainian humanitarian assistance. Many thanks, everyone, for your kindness and generosity!

THANKS VERY KINDLY FOR YOUR DONATIONS TO OUR PARISH : We are truly grateful for everyone’s generosity through the pandemic. If you are attending Mass, you will find a collection basket near the entrance and exit (since we are not passing around the basket due to the public health restrictions). Also, please free to use the mail: St. Mary’s Polish Parish, 21 Wesley St., Sydney, NS, B1N 2M5. Donations can also be made securely on-line at Canada Helps (which will email you an instant tax receipt):   https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/st-marys-polish-parish/.
