It calls for an end to anger, war, and hunger. It asks for the gifts of love and piety. It asks to show us the way to heaven.
Ratujstworzenie, daj opatrzenie / Wlej Ducha Świętego do serca mego / Wspomóż w potrzebie proszących Ciebie / Odpuść nam złości dla Twej miłości / Odwróć głód, wojny, spraw czas spokojny / Daj dar miłości i pobożności / Szczęść ludowi Twemu jako swojemu / Strzeż w nim żyjących, broń konających / Daj nam być w niebie, prosimy Ciebie

OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

HEARTFELT THANKS! The pierogi have sold out! Once again, sincere thanks to the amazing volunteers for the hard work.

GETTING READY FOR NOVA SCOTIA POLISH HERITAGE MONTH: Planning is well underway for September – with again a range of activities, large and small. If you would like to do something in your home, school, workplace, or community organization to honour the month, please let us know. We will recognize it in the official calendar!

OUR POLISH-THEMED RADIO SEGMENTS: The Coast Radio 89.7 (weekdays at 3:50pm and 7:50pm or any time at coastalradio.ca). This past week featured the Polish traditions around Zielone Świątki – Green Week (Pentecost) – with guest Marjorie Ardelli. The segment is dedicated to the parish volunteers who worked so hard on the recent pierogi sale! This coming week will feature Polish-style kanapki (open-faced sandwiches) with guest Dr. Paula Michalik. This segment is dedicated to Fr. Rich Philiposki in appreciation of his recent generous donation to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society.
We’re now well into our third year of doing weekday radio segments for The Coast. It’s been great to feature voices of many different people from our community! We’re always looking for sponsors and volunteers. It’s $100 for a whole week. Sponsors are recognized on air – and any dedications, too (eg. if you’re sponsoring as a memorial or as a birthday or anniversary gift). The Coast is generously redirecting the sponsorships back to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society (which produces the segments), which has been a big help to the Society. If you think you might like to sponsor a week, please e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca or call 563-1226. Many thanks!

UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE: A big thank you for the parish’s generosity for Ukrainian humanitarian assistance and to friends of the parish. We are continuing to fund-raise in order to support our twin city Wałbrzych to care for the thousands of refugees in their city; as well as humanitarian efforts on the ground by Caritas (via the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace) and the Catholic Near East Welfare Association. There are envelopes at the back of the church marked “Ukrainian Humanitarian Assistance.” You can also make a cheque to St. Mary’s Polish Parish and mark “Ukrainian Humanitarian Assistance” in the memo line. Or make a designated, secure donation on the parish’s CanadaHelps page: www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/st-marys-polish-parish/ God bless! Thank you so much for your caring and support! Donations will be included in your tax receipt at the end of the year.

FOOD CUPBOARD: Please consider bringing a non-perishable food or personal care item (e.g. shampoo, soap, toilet paper) to church when you come to Mass. These items will help stock our food cupboard outside the Polish Village Hall. There is a significant need in our community. Thank you for any help.

PUBLIC HEALTH PROTOCOLS – MASKS STILL STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. Thanks for all your kindness, patience, and co-operation.

ST. MICHAEL’S POLISH BENEFIT SOCIETY is reaching out for new members. You do not have to attend monthly meetings. Only members elected to the board are expected to attend monthly meetings, but all members are kept in the loop on activities, invited to participate in various projects, have a say in the Society’s overall direction, and a vote at the Annual General Meeting. The next AGM is June 26 – and will include additional information about forthcoming capital improvements and new cultural exhibits at the Polish Village Hall. A membership form was included with last week's paper version of the bulletin. Membership is open to everyone who has an interest in promoting Polish heritage in Cape Breton and who supports the cultural and community-service mandate of the Society. Founded in 1909, the Society owns and operates the Polish Village Hall, was instrumental in getting the Nova Scotia Legislature to establish Polish Heritage Month, helps with food security and other community outreach, works closely with the CBRM on the Polish twin city initiative, and has stewardship of the Glace Bay Polish pioneers monument.

SCHOLARSHIP FUND UNDER THE STEWARDSHIP OF OUR PARISH: At its recent meeting, the Finance Committee decided to convene a working group that will meet once or twice over the summer to recommend to the Finance Committee and Rada the structure/criteria for the scholarship fund made possible by Father Rich’s recent donation designated toward setting up a scholarship fund. If you would like to be part of this discussion, please call 902-563-1226.

COLLECTION FOR June 5: $951.00 Thank you very kindly for your generosity.

THANKS VERY KINDLY FOR YOUR DONATIONS TO OUR PARISH : We are truly grateful for everyone’s generosity through the pandemic. If you are attending Mass, you will find a collection basket near the entrance and exit (since we are not passing around the basket due to the public health restrictions). Also, please free to use the mail: St. Mary’s Polish Parish, 21 Wesley St., Sydney, NS, B1N 2M5. Donations can also be made securely on-line at Canada Helps (which will email you an instant tax receipt):   https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/st-marys-polish-parish/.
