OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

UPCOMING TAKE-OUT HAM AND POTATO SALAD DINNER (plus coleslaw, bun, dessert): to raise funds for the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society: Friday, February 11, from 11:00am to 1:00pm. Take-out only; from the church side entrance; only pre-sold tickets – there won’t be sales at the door; $12. Tickets are available now. You can also call or e-mail (902-563-1226; tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca). Thanks to all of the volunteers who are helping with this. Please let us know if you can take several tickets to sell to friends or family. It would be a big help! (The Polish Village Hall has been closed during the Omicron wave and usual fund-raising events like New Year’s Eve have been cancelled for a second consecutive year, so this take-out dinner is most appreciated.) The dinner preparation will take place Wednesday and Thursday, starting at 9:00am on both days. (For any additional info about preparation, please speak with Stephanie Black – 902-578-3697). All volunteers welcome and truly appreciated! Please note that masks will continue to be required for the preparation sessions, and please have proof of vaccination with you. Dziekujemy bardzo!

STO LAT! Extending many best wishes and appreciation to Marilyn Gillis on her birthday – blessings, health, and happiness!

A REQUEST FOR NON-PERISHABLE ITEMS: We would be very grateful if you could bring a non-perishable food item or personal-care item (eg. shampoo, soap, toilet paper) to church. There will be a box at the entrance. These items will help to stock our Food Cupboard outside the Polish Village Hall and also assist Loaves and Fishes.

WEEKDAY RADIO SPOTS ABOUT POLISH CULTURE AND LANGUAGE IN CAPE BRETON: The Coast Radio: Every weekday at 3:50pm and 7:50pm (FM 89.7). It’s called the “One Minute Polish Broadcast”. Learn a new Polish word, phrase, or cultural tradition. Presented by the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society. Would you consider sponsoring a whole week of our radio segments for $100? The Coast has kindly agreed to allow the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society to do this as a fund-raiser (they are not charging for air time). Sponsors will be acknowledged on air (IMOs are welcome, birthday tributes, etc). Dziekujemy! And, we’re recruiting volunteers to go on air (pre-recorded). We’ll help you get ready. No previous experience required, and you do not have to be a Polish speaker. This is a great way for us to bring forward members of our community, as well as promote and share Polish language and culture in our region. RADIO SEGMENT THIS COMING WEEK will be on the Polish alphabet. Many thanks to Noah Starzomski-Wilson for lending his voice to this segment. And sincerest thanks to the Starzomski family in memory of Delores Starzomski for sponsoring this segment. We miss Delores a lot.

A NOTE OF THANKS: Kindest thanks for continuing the Polish “gromnice” Candlemas tradition last week. Thank you for taking the blessed gromnice candles home last Sunday and for the contributions to the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace. Please note that we are still gratefully accepting free-will offerings to Development and Peace to add to the gromnice free-will offering last Sunday. The Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace does really good work with partners in the Global South to alleviate suffering in times of disaster, to assist refugees, and to assist people of all faiths who are living in conditions of poverty and expression. If you would still like to add a contribution, please mark “Development and Peace” on an envelope, and we will include it with last week’s free-will offering. We will have a tally in the bulletin next Sunday.
This is the text of the blessing prayer we used:
God, Our Protector
We ask you to bless these candles.
May they remind us that
You are our Light,
our guide in times of danger,
and our path to all that is good.
May these candles remind us of the intercession of Our Lady of Gromnice
And her loving embrace in the depths of winter.
We give thanks for the care she shows toward all that is alive and beautiful in Your creation,
And all that rests in the snow, awaiting spring.
We pray for the protection of our community and all communities from disasters, disease, and harm.
We pray for all who are threatened by the ravages of weather, lack of food, or lack of shelter.
And we pray for all who hasten to their assistance.
Loving God, may we reflect Your light this day and every day.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord,
Amen
