UROCZYSTOŚĆ CHRZTU PAŃSKIEGO / FEAST OF THE BAPTISM OF THE LORD: Once celebrated at the same time as Epiphany, this Feast marks Jesus’s baptism in the River Jordan by John the Baptist, a holy man and cousin of Jesus, who led a general movement of repentance. John urged his students and associates to follow Jesus. John was murdered by King Herod around AD 30. We reflect today on the significance of Baptism – as an act of cleansing, of membership in our spiritual community, of our call to holiness. We renew our baptismal vows. To highlight the importance of Baptism, St. John Paul II initiated on this day the practice of baptizing babies in the Sistine Chapel

MASS INTENTION FOR TODAY: Dawn Marie Ardelli offered by Shirley and family
ALTAR SOCIETY DESIGNATED VOLUNTEERS FOR JANUARY: Marilyn Gillis, Joe Gillis

OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

SINCERE CONDOLENCES: Our parish extends heartfelt condolences to the family of Delores Starzomski, who passed away on Monday. Delores’s funeral Mass was on Wednesday in our church; it was a private Mass due to the COVID restrictions. A video of Delores’s funeral Mass is shared on our parish Facebook page. We are grateful for all of Delores’s service to our parish and for her friendship. She will be greatly missed. Wieczny odpoczynek racz jej dać Panie a światłość wiekuista niechaj jej świeci …

PARISH ON-LINE (ZOOM) GATHERING TO MARK THE END OF THE CHRISTMAS SEASON: Sunday, January 16, at 7:00pm: This will be in place of the Opłatek potluck in light of the public health situation. Similar to last year, we’ll do a pop-up “Jasełka” (Polish folk pageant). We would love to give you a role and one line in Polish. We’ll help with pronunciation. Absolutely no experience required! There will be no prior rehearsal, though you can practice your individual line if you wish. We can also record the pronunciation for you and e-mail it to you so that you can listen to it. We’ll just have fun with it and enjoy each other’s company. Also, if anyone would like to sing a Polish carol or play an instrument, that would be great. Please e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca or call 902-563-1226. And if you just wish to attend to listen in, that’s great too. Here’s how to link in next Sunday (Jan. 16 at 7:00pm) by computer or telephone:

A REQUEST FOR NON-PERISHABLE ITEMS: We would be very grateful if you could bring a non-perishable food item or personal-care item (eg. shampoo, soap, toilet paper) to church. There will be a box at the entrance. These items will help to stock our Food Cupboard outside the Polish Village Hall and also assist Loaves and Fishes.

FOOD CUPBOARD AT POLISH VILLAGE HALL: Thank you for your help. The sign on the Cupboard says “Take what you need, leave what you don’t, give what you can. Thank you!” The Cupboard was put up in the spring of 2020 – almost two years ago -- by the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society, working with carpenter (and fellow parishioner) Adam McCormick and Sixty Minute Signs. The Food Cupboard had very good support from the community, including weekly from our parish.

WEEKDAY RADIO SPOTS ABOUT POLISH CULTURE AND LANGUAGE IN CAPE BRETON: The Coast Radio: Every weekday at 3:50pm and 7:50pm (FM 89.7). It’s called the “One Minute Polish Broadcast”. Learn a new Polish word, phrase, or cultural tradition. Presented by the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society. Would you consider sponsoring a whole week of our radio segments for $100? The Coast has kindly agreed to allow the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society to do this as a fund-raiser (they are not charging for air time). Sponsors will be acknowledged on air (IMOs are welcome, birthday tributes, etc). Dziekujemy! And, we’re recruiting volunteers to go on air (pre-recorded). We’ll help you get ready. No previous experience required, and you do not have to be a Polish speaker. This is a great way for us to bring forward members of our community, as well as promote and share Polish language and culture in our region. Our radio theme for this coming week will be opportunities to study in Poland in our sister city, Wałbrzych. Guest will be Victor Tomiczek, manager of international programs for Cape Breton University. This week’s episode is dedicated in appreciation of the support of Bernie Paruch.

COLLECTION FOR JANUARY 1-2: $1565.00 Thank you very kindly for your support of our parish.

THANKS VERY KINDLY FOR YOUR DONATIONS TO OUR PARISH DURING THE PANDEMIC: We are truly grateful for everyone’s generosity through the pandemic. If you are attending Mass, you will find a collection basket near the entrance and exit (since we are not passing around the basket due to the public health restrictions). Also, please free to use the mail: St. Mary’s Polish Parish, 21 Wesley St., Sydney, NS, B1N 2M5. Donations can also be made securely on-line at Canada Helps (which will email you an instant tax receipt):   https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/st-marys-polish-parish/.
