OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

WELCOME: Serdecznie witamy Konsula Generalnego Dariusza Wiśniewskiego. Serdecznie witamy również członków zarządu Okręgu Atlantyckiego Kanadyjskiego Kongresu Polonii Kanadyjskiej! Welcome to Consul General Dariusz Wiśniewski and board members of the Atlantic Canada District of the Canadian Polish Congress. We’ll be posting some photos and info on Facebook from some activities of the past few days, including upcoming study-in-Wałbrzych opportunities for Cape Breton University students, the Glace Bay Polish homesteads walk in memory of Fran Lasowski McKenzie, and a volunteer-appreciation gathering for Nova Scotia Polish Heritage Month.

A NOTE ON ST. CECILIA (FEAST DAY NOVEMBER 22) AND THE CHOIR OF ST. MARY'S POLISH CHURCH: St. Cecilia, martyred around the year 230 in Rome because of her Christian faith, sang to God as she lay dying. She is the patron saint of the Choir of St. Mary’s Polish Parish and of church music. Thank you so much to our choir for all they do to strengthen our faith and uphold our parish community. Singing has just resumed as we cautiously re-start some activities that were on hold during COVID. Bóg zapłać!

ZEBRANIE PARAFIALNE: Thank you for last Sunday’s positive parish meeting. If anyone who was not present last Sunday would like a copy of the financial reports and other update documents, please do not hesitate to ask! Thanks, all, for the sense of community and perseverance during these challenging times!

RECRUITING VOLUNTEER ANNOUNCERS AND SPONSORS FOR THE POLISH RADIO SEGMENTS ON THE COAST: We will be recording some more segments next week. You do not need to know Polish. The segments are pre-recorded and we work off scripts. With regard to sponsorships, they are $100 for a whole week and all proceeds support the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society. The segments run weekdays at 3:50 and 7:50pm.

FOOD CUPBOARD: If you are attending Mass this Sunday, we would be so grateful if you could bring a non-perishable food or personal care item for the Food Cupboard. A note of heartfelt thanks for the generosity of fellow parishioners!

WEEKDAY RADIO SPOTS ABOUT POLISH CULTURE AND LANGUAGE IN CAPE BRETON: The Coast Radio: Every weekday at 3:50pm and 7:50pm (FM 89.7). And archived at coastalradio.ca. It’s called the “One Minute Polish Broadcast”. Learn a new Polish word, phrase, or cultural tradition. Presented by the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society. Would you consider sponsoring a whole week of our radio segments for $100? The Coast has kindly agreed to allow the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society to do this as a fund-raiser (they are not charging for air time). Sponsors will be acknowledged on air (IMOs are welcome, birthday tributes, etc). Dziekujemy! And, we’re recruiting volunteers to go on air (pre-recorded). We’ll help you get ready. No previous experience required, and you do not have to be a Polish speaker. Our radio theme for this coming week will be about Andrzejki – and some of the Polish customs around November 29-30. Thank you to Marjorie Ardelli for being the guest voice! This week’s segment is in memory of Janina Sztuka

COLLECTION FOR NOVEMBER 14: $890.00 (including $220.00 for flowers and $50.00 for the Building Fund). Thank you very kindly for your support of our parish.

RECENT IMO (IN MEMORY OF) CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE BUILDING FUND:

If you are able to make a donation, the parish’s mailing address is St. Mary’s Polish Parish, 21 Wesley St., Sydney, NS, B1N 2M5. Donations can be made securely on-line at Canada Helps (which will email you an instant tax receipt):   https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/st-marys-polish-parish/. (link to this site is provided on our parish website homepage). Thanks for your support!

LOOKING AHEAD: On Wednesdays during Advent, we will have 6:30pm. Mass and Novena to Our Lady of Czestochowa.

LOOKING AHEAD TO THE YEAR OF COPERNICUS: At last weekend’s national annual general meeting of the Canadian Polish Congress, there was a discussion about the forthcoming year of Copernicus (2023), coinciding with the great astronomer’s 550th birthday. Among other things, Mikołaj Kopernik shocked “authorities” at the time by showing that the sun, and not the earth, is the centre of the solar system. Polish communities around the world, including ours, are being encouraged to do something in 2023 to study and honour Copernicus.

HYMNS FOR TODAY: We are easing back into singing! As per regulations, we will still wear our masks for singing. Please join in these hymns today:
OPENING:
1. Pod Twą obronę, Ojcze na niebie, Grono Twych dzieci swój powierza los. Ty nam błogosław, ratuj w potrzebie, I broń od zguby, gdy zagraża cios.
2. Czy toń spokojna, czy huczą fale, Gdy Ty Twe dzieci w Swej opiece masz, Wznosimy modły dziś ku Twej chwale, Boś Ty nam tarczą, Boże Ojcze nasz

OFFERTORY:
1. Z rąk kapłańskich przyjmij Panie
Tę ofiarę chleba wina
Co się wkrótce dla nas stanie

I uśmierza gniew Twój Panie
Niech nas z niebem pojednywa
I uzyska przebłaganie.
