OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

COVID-19 UPDATE: As part of the province's modified Phase 5, the following applies in our church:
-Masks remain mandatory.
-Proof of vaccination is not required for regular Masses, but will be required for funerals, weddings, and all other gatherings, meetings, and activities hosted by the parish.
-We are still encouraged to try to maintain distancing and avoid crowding. The Sala 1050 will be used for overflow if required or if anyone wishes, with distanced chairs. Also, we will still have chairs at the back of the church to give more space.
-We will still do a staged exit in an effort to avoid crowding
-Pre-registration for Mass is not required, but we will keep a list of people attending as they arrive, in case names are needed for contact tracing.
-Masks must still be worn for singing. We will have further discussions about how to re-introduce singing going forward.
-We kindly ask everyone to continue to use the hand sanitizer upon entering the church.
Thank you for the solidarity, kindness, and sense of community during these challenging times! Thanks for helping to keep everyone safe! God bless you!

A SMALL THANKSGIVING GIFT: We would like to offer households a little gift as you arrive at Mass: Polish barszcz (borscht) mixes – red and white – to add to your Thanksgiving meals. Happy Thanksgiving!

PRAYERS AND CONDOLENCES: Fran McKenzie (nee Lasouski), respected Polish elder in Glace Bay, passed away last weekend at age 90. Fran had become a very good friend of our parish and became involved in a number of activities in recent years to preserve the memory of Glace Bay’s Polish pioneers. In his funeral homily, Father Norm MacPhee talked about this aspect of Fran’s life. We saw Fran last just two weeks ago at the Polish Heritage Month event at the Glace Bay Heritage Museum, where she again shared valuable information. Fran was a local businessperson (she ran a restaurant and catering business for many years), a generous person, and a good friend. She also mentored students, including international students. In lieu of flowers, Fran’s family has very kindly suggested donations to our parish. Wieczny odpoczynek racz jej dac Panie. A swiatlosc wiekuista niechaj jej swieci.

CONGRATULATIONS to Bernie Paruch on the birth of his new grandchild! Mom and baby are doing well!

CONGRATULATIONS to John and Carolyn Markotich who are celebrating their wedding anniversary today (October 10)! Wishing them the very best – and lots of health and happiness. And best wishes to John who celebrated his birthday this week! Sto lat!

STO LAT! Best wishes to Lynette Ryba on her birthday. Blessings and “sto lat”!

FOOD CUPBOARD: If you are attending Mass this Sunday, we would be so grateful if you could bring a non-perishable food or personal care item for the Food Cupboard.

PIEROGI-MAKING: Pierogi-making will start on Friday at 1:00pm in our church (Sala 1050). Volunteers are welcome! Many thanks! As per provincial public-health requirements, proof of vaccination will be required for volunteers. Everyone is kindly asked to please submit any pierogi orders by Tuesday. The pierogi are $12 a dozen. Orders can be submitted to Stephanie Black (902-578-3697) or Wayne Joseph (902-577-3081).

FILM SCREENING: Andrzej Wajda’s famous Polish film Man of Marble (with English subtitles) – Cape Breton University – Monday, October 18, 6:00pm. Location: Cape Breton University. We will have a light supper. It’s in the Multipurpose Room, a comfortable, medium-sized banquet-style room with large screens, where we can eat at tables during the film. Entrance is via the Great Hall entrance (also known as Student Welcome Centre), best accessed by turning into campus at the traffic lights. Proof of vaccination will be requested by security at the entrance. Masks must be worn and other public health measures will be in place

It’s called the “One Minute Polish Broadcast”. Learn a new Polish word, phrase, or cultural tradition. Presented by the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society. Would you consider sponsoring a whole week of our radio segments for $100? The Coast has kindly agreed to allow the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society to do this as a fund-raiser (they are not charging for air time). Sponsors will be acknowledged on air (IMOs are welcome, birthday tributes, etc). Dziekujemy! And, we’re recruiting volunteers to go on air (pre-recorded). We’ll help you get ready.
