This is an internationally acclaimed film by one of Poland's greatest filmmakers, exploring freedom, moral courage, and oppressive systems.

WE HAD A GREAT CONCLUDING WEEK OF NOVA SCOTIA POLISH HERITAGE MONTH:  As we approached the end of Nova Scotia Polish Heritage Month –– and to mark St. Michael's Day (the 112th anniversary of the St. Michael's Polish Benefit Society!) – the Society and Cape Breton University’s Tompkins Institute held an enjoyable workshop and luncheon at the Polish Village Hall on local history, culture, and the design of a future Polish park. The workshop brought together CBU students and community members. We concluded NS Polish Heritage Month on September 29 in order to set aside September 30 as a day of solidarity and reflection for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

WEEKDAY RADIO SPOTS ABOUT POLISH CULTURE AND LANGUAGE IN CAPE BRETON: The Coast Radio: Every weekday at 3:50pm and 7:50pm (FM 89.7). And archived at coastalradio.ca. It’s called the “One Minute Polish Broadcast”. Learn a new Polish word, phrase, or cultural tradition. Presented by the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society. Would you consider sponsoring a whole week of our radio segments for $100? The Coast has kindly agreed to allow the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society to do this as a fund-raiser (they are not charging for air time). Sponsors will be acknowledged on air (IMOs are welcome, birthday tributes, etc). Dziekujemy! And, we’re recruiting volunteers to go on air (pre-recorded). We’ll help you get ready. No previous experience required, and you do not have to be a Polish speaker. Our radio theme for this coming week will be “Polish puppetry” with guest Paul Lenarczyk.

SAINT MARIA FAUSTINA KOWALSKA: The Humble Instrument - Feast Day October 5: Sister Faustina was a young, uneducated nun in a convent of the Congregation of Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy in Poland during the 1930s.  She came from a poor family that struggled during the years of World War I.  She had only three years of simple education, so hers were the humblest tasks in the convent, usually in the kitchen or garden.  However, she received extraordinary revelations — or messages — from our Lord Jesus.  Jesus asked Sr. Faustina to record these experiences, which she compiled into notebooks.  These notebooks are known today as the Diary of Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska, and the words contained within are God's loving message of Divine Mercy. Though the Divine Mercy message is not new to the teachings of the Church, Sr. Faustina's Diary sparked a great movement, and a strong and significant focus on the mercy of Christ.  Saint John Paul II canonized Sr. Faustina in 2000 making her the "first saint of the new millennium."  Speaking of Sr. Faustina and the importance of the message contained in her Diary, the Pope called her "the great apostle of Divine Mercy in our time."
