OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

Special prayers today on the solemn occasion of the 77th anniversary of the start of the Warsaw Uprising: For 63 days, starting on August 1, 1944, people living under an unimaginably brutal occupation managed to retake large parts of the Polish capital from Nazi forces. More than 16,000 members of the Polish resistance were killed in the uprising. And in just a short time, more than 150,000 civilians in the city were killed – many as a result of mass executions during or shortly after the uprising. Today is a day designated to pray for them, to pray for human rights for all, and an end to all forms of hatred, tyranny, and cruelty. Wieczny odpoczynek racz Im dac Panie.  At Mass, we will have special prayers and light red and white candles in front of the image of Our Lady of Czestochowa.

STO LAT! Happy 101st birthday to Anne Tynski Redmond (tomorrow)! Wishing you lots of health and happiness! Anne is currently residing in Halifax but is regularly in touch with us, sending beautiful notes with positive and practical suggestions. She receives and reads the parish bulletin every week.

Also -- Last Sunday at Mass, we offered birthday prayers for Peggy Ryba and would like to acknowledge that here in the bulletin. Thanks, Peggy, for your friendship and for all you do for our parish!

FOOD CUPBOARD: If you are attending Mass this Sunday, we would be so grateful if you could bring a non-perishable or personal care item for the Food Cupboard. In particular, personal care items (soap, shampoo, etc) appear to be especially needed at this time. Also, nutritious non-perishable breakfast items like cereal and peanut butter. Thanks for all your help! God bless!

LOOKING FOR A COUPLE OF VOLUNTEERS AFTER MASS TODAY: With our CBU work-study student, Amritpal Singh, we will be straightening out the fence at the site of the Kolonia Immigrant Heritage Parkette at the bottom of Bryan St. This should take maybe 20 minutes. We will start at about 10:30am. Thanks for any help!

THE NEW FATHER GREG MacLEOD HOUSE – CLEANING BLITZ ON SATURDAY MORNING TO GET IT READY: Our parish is one of the founding partners of the Father Greg MacLeod House – which will be an ecumenical community/residence for students on the Esplanade in downtown starting in September – a base for Christian students from away to serve Cape Breton communities and deepen their faith. The Father Greg MacLeod House project is co-chaired by Fr. Bill Burke and Rev. Alison Etter. On the morning of Saturday, August 7, there will be a clean-up blitz to get the house ready – dusting, vacuuming, etc. Can you spare an hour or so? If you can, or would like to chat about the project, please be in touch with Alison at alisonlouiseetter@gmail.com or 902-317-5132.
