OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

Pierwszy Światowy Dzień Dziadków i Osób Starszych / World Day of Prayer for Grandparents and Elderly Persons:
“Dear Grandmothers and Grandfathers, Dear Elderly Friends, “I am with you always” (Mt 28:20): this is the promise the Lord made to his disciples before he ascended into heaven. They are the words that he repeats to you today, dear grandfathers and grandmothers, dear elderly friends. “I am with you always” are also the words that I, as Bishop of Rome and an elderly person like yourselves, would like to address to you on this first World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly. The whole Church is close to you – to us – and cares about you, loves you and does not want to leave you alone!” – Pope Francis

STO LAT! Happy birthday to Shirley Ardelli (today)! God bless you, Shirley, and thank you for all the kindness and friendship you offer to our entire parish community

FOOD CUPBOARD: If you are attending Mass this Sunday, we would be so grateful if you could bring a non-perishable or personal care item for the Food Cupboard. In particular, personal care items (soap, shampoo, etc) appear to be especially needed at this time. Also, nutritious non-perishable breakfast items like cereal and peanut butter. Thanks for all your help! God bless!

CAN YOU SPARE A LITTLE BIT OF TIME AFTER MASS THIS MORNING? We’re going to be doing some more improvements to the empty lot at the corner of Victoria Road and Franklin St., which will help to beautify the neighbourhood, together with our part-time CBU work-study student, Amritpal Singh. Amrit will also be working on sprucing up the Kolonia site in the weeks ahead. Thanks to John Morykot for the extra help this past week! Dziekujemy bardzo!

A FEW DATES TO SET ASIDE:
September 10 (4:00 to 7:00pm) and 11 (10:30am to 2:30pm): Nova Scotia Polish Heritage Month exhibit with featured artist Jo-Ann Dziubek MacDonald – Polish Village Hall
September 15 at 10:30am: Zoom lecture with our twin city (Walbrzych) Mayor Roman Szelemej
Evenings of September 20 and 27: Polish film nights at Boardmore Theatre – free admission.
… more dates to follow!

SPECIAL CRAFT BEER FOR NOVA SCOTIA POLISH HERITAGE MONTH! Saltbox Brewery in Mahone Bay has agreed to do a special beer! Thanks to Bill Kowalski (Mahone Bay rep on our NS Polish Heritage Month Steering Committee) for making this happen!

SOLAR CO-OPERATIVE: The Verschuren Centre for Energy and the Environment has been working with the Polish Village Hall, as one of several demonstration sites in CBRM, to find ways to protect the environment and save money. The Verschuren Centre has invited the sites to form a co-operative with them, which can then secure funds for green retrofits and installations. The board of the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society has agreed to be part of the co-operative. It would be great to see this work out!

POSTERS FOR NOVA SCOTIA POLISH HERITAGE MONTH: Two weeks ago, we included colour, paper copies – inserts in the bulletin. We have larger versions, too, that we’d be happy to share if you’d like to put the poster up somewhere.  Please spread the word. We’re encouraging businesses and groups to acknowledge the month in some way!

PARISH POLISH COOKBOOKS – SECOND PRINTING AND POLISH CAPE BRETONERS COLOURING BOOKS: We have more in stock now!

CAPE BRETON POLISH TARTAN MASKS: a few remaining!

MURAL PROJECT: Homes of Polish Cape Breton. Our artist Emily Sheppard will be going around to locations today and tomorrow (though a home doesn’t have to be still standing to be sketched). Please suggest addresses for Emily to look at! We will do an exhibit of sketches during NS Polish Heritage Month! And these will eventually form a mural.

WEEKDAY RADIO SPOTS ABOUT POLISH CULTURE AND LANGUAGE IN CAPE BRETON: The Coast Radio: Every weekday at 3:50pm and 7:50pm (FM 89.7). And archived at coastalradio.ca. It’s called the “One Minute Polish Broadcast”. Learn a new Polish word, phrase, or cultural tradition. Presented by the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society. Would you consider sponsoring a whole week of our radio segments for $100? The Coast has kindly agreed to allow the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society to do this as a fund-raiser (they are not charging for air time). Sponsors will be acknowledged on air (IMOs are welcome, birthday tributes, etc). Dziekujemy! And, we’re recruiting volunteers to go on air (pre-recorded). We’ll help you get ready. No previous experience required, and you do not have to be a Polish speaker. Our radio theme for this coming week will be three Polish words for summer. The words are: Beach:plaza, Water:woda, Sun: słońce Thank you to Paul Lenarczyk for lending his voice this week!

ALTAR SOCIETY: If any members of the Altar Society don’t have the schedule for the rest of the year, please let Tom Urbaniak know and a copy can be made or sent out! Thanks so much to the Altar Society volunteers for all your time and help!
