OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

PODZIĘKOWANIE / A NOTE OF THANKS: It’s five years since our rebuilt church was consecrated! The time has gone quickly! Thank you for the blessing of being part of such a faith-filled, generous, and hospitable community. At Mass on Sunday, we will offer special prayer intentions, including for living and deceased parishioners and for all friends and supporters, near and far. Nova Scotia is now in Phase 3 of the re-opening. Applied specifically to our church that means a slightly higher capacity. We still have distancing, masks, and other public health measures. If you have not attended for a while and would like to, please give Stephanie Black a call at 902-578-3697. We would love to see you soon!

Our Lady of Częstochowa, pray for us! At Mass on Sunday, we will have five red and white candles in front of the image of Our Lady Of Częstochowa.

FOOD CUPBOARD: If you are attending Mass this Sunday, we would be so grateful if you could bring a non-perishable or personal care item for the Food Cupboard. In particular, personal care items appear to be especially needed at this time. Also, nutritious non-perishable breakfast items like cereal and peanut butter. Thanks for all your help! God bless!

A NOTE FROM OUR PARISH FACEBOOK PAGE ON CANADA DAY: “On this Canada Day, we pray for our country. For peace and healing, for reconciliation and a future of dreaming together and working together. For Indigenous peoples and for all who have sought refuge and safety on this land in recent years and over many generations. We pray for blessings for Canada.”

CHECK OUT OUR SLIDE PRESENTATION and photos from the Annual General Meeting of the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society held last Sunday by Zoom. We’ve posted the slide presentation on the new website of the Polish Village Hall: polishvillage.ca

MURAL PROJECT: Dear Friends: Please suggest Polish Cape Breton homes – standing or no longer standing – to feature in a mural project for NS Polish Heritage Month (a project of the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society) – working with artist Emily Sheppard. (contact: 902-563-1226; tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca). The mural will have a home at the Polish Village Hall! Below is a photo that Vicky Aucoin shared, with her ancestral home on Frederick St. (no longer standing). Emily is sketching it!

WEEKDAY RADIO SPOTS ABOUT POLISH CULTURE AND LANGUAGE IN CAPE BRETON: The Coast Radio: Every weekday at 3:50pm and 7:50pm (FM 89.7). And archived at coastalradio.ca. It’s called the “One Minute Polish Broadcast”. Learn a new Polish word, phrase, or cultural tradition. Presented by the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society. Would you consider sponsoring a whole week of our radio segments for $100? The Coast has kindly agreed to allow the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society to do this as a fund-raiser (they are not charging for air time). Sponsors will be acknowledged on air (IMOs are welcome, birthday tributes, etc). Dziekujemy! And, we’re recruiting volunteers to go on air (pre-recorded). We’ll help you get ready. No previous experience required, and you do not have to be a Polish speaker. Our radio theme for this coming week will be Polish film director Andrzej Wajda. Thank you to Bob Lewandowski for lending his voice this week. And thank you to this week’s sponsor, Steve Melnick! Andrzej Wajda’s films include such classics as Katyn, Man of Marble, Ashes and Diamonds, Promised Land, and so many more. They’re worth checking out!
