PLEASE NOTE: Our church is closed at least until May 12 due to the general provincial shutdown to stop the spread of COVID-19. Stay safe, everyone. Please pray for a successful vaccination program and the end of the pandemic. Our thoughts and prayers are with front-line workers as well. Also, please pray for the people of India and other parts of the world that are experiencing the pandemic in a catastrophic way. May they soon experience healing and comfort.

FOOD CUPBOARD: Our parishioners have been amazing with the contributions every Sunday to the Food Cupboard (which is in front of the Polish Village Hall). We’d be very grateful to anyone who can stop by the Food Cupboard to help keep it filled.

PRAYERS FOR JOE GILLIS ON HIS BIRTHDAY: Sto lat, Joe! Wishing you lots of health and happiness.

CELEBRATING THE POLISH MAY 3rd HOLIDAY (THE FEAST OF MARY, QUEEN OF POLAND AND CONSTIUTION DAY): Please join us on Monday, May 3, at 7:00pm, for a really interesting lecture by author Brianne Turczynski, whose recent book is Detroit’s Lost Poletown. It’s a tragic story of people who struggled to save their church and neighbourhood – and the toll all this took on people’s health. What can we learn from this here in Cape Breton? This year’s lecture is dedicated in memory of Melbourne McKay.
You’ll can join by computer or telephone.
Here are the links: Zoom link for May 3rd lecture to mark the Polish holiday. Looking forward to seeing you! Monday, May 3, at 7:00pm:

SPECIAL ART PROJECT TO FEATURE “HISTORIC HOMES OF POLISH CAPE BRETON”: We’d love to feature a home associated with your family history. We’ll share some more information at Monday’s lecture. Artist Emily Sheppard will join us.

Above is a sample of Emily’s work. We would like to feature as many of the “Polish homes” as possible. The first step will be a mural in the Polish Village Hall, to be unveiled during NS Polish Heritage Month.

Uroczystość Najświętszej Maryi Panny Królowej Polski / Feast Day of Mary, Queen of Poland:The following is excerpted from an article by Martin LaMartina in Christian Culture (2009): “For the ultimate expression of Polish Catholic devotion we can look to the fruition of Polish Marian piety in the lives and in the enduring spiritual gifts to the Church of her contemporary martyrs [and] saints. The list includes St. Faustina, Blessed [now Saint] Pope John Paul II and St. Maximillian Kolbe. These sons and daughters of Poland of the twentieth century are still influential in the life of the universal Church of today … The nation’s strong devotion to Mary traces its roots back to the installation and adoration of Our Lady’s iconic image at Czestochowa. While each of these individuals has given us a unique personal witness, they are all similar in their personal dependence on the will of Christ through obedience to His Mother through the Church. A dependence summed up in the motto of John Paul II: ‘Totus Tuus’. This motto is also applicable to the collective soul of the Polish nation from which these saints come forth. This soul was officially recognized, and Poland’s faith was solidified, with the crowning of Mary as ‘Queen of Poland’ through an official Act of Parliament proposed by King John Casimir.”
