OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

HAND SANITIZER AT ENTRANCES / LIMITING DIRECT CONTACT: We kindly draw your attention to the dispensers. We will not do handshakes for the passing of the peace, and generally try to reduce contact.

RECENT IN MEMORY OF CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE BUILDING FUND:
IMO Ray Ryan from Mary Ryan

THE COMMUNITY KITCHEN: Due to the COVID-19 situation and to respect the most recent guidelines from the province about gatherings and social-distancing, the operations of the Whitney Pier Community Kitchen at St. Mary’s Polish Church are suspended for the time being.  However, for anyone in the area who might need help at this time picking up groceries or prescriptions, please note that the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society will be pitching in to assist (as a service to the community). If you need help with getting groceries or prescriptions, please call 902-563-1226. Take care, everyone. Keep well. And keep in touch. God bless. Bóg zapłać!

Due to the COVID-19 travel situation, our guests from Wales – Charlotte Powell and Vera Brinkworth from the agency Care and Repair Cymru (which helps seniors and improves housing) -- will not be able to make it next week. They were scheduled to meet here in our church with the ecumenical KAIROS group that we have been hosting (faith communities of diverse denominations prayerfully working together on social justice issues in our community). They will be visiting us in the future.

GENERATING IDEAS AND PROJECTS FOR POLISH HERITAGE MONTH: Everyone is invited to think of projects large and small to mark Nova Scotia’s first ever Polish Heritage Month coming up this September – readings, small get-togethers, house concerts, student projects, artwork, etc., etc. We will be compiling a database of projects! Mezzo soprano Katarzyna Sadej is already scheduled to do a concert in our church on September 18.

DESIGNING A PROPOSED SPECIALIZED “POLISH HERITAGE” LICENSE PLATE: The Atlantic Canada District of the Canadian Polish Congress (which is headquartered at the Polish Village Hall) is submitting a recommendation package to the province, which would (if approved) allow motorists to have an option for a Nova Scotia “Polish Heritage” license plate (similar to other specialized/themed license plates offered by the province). A portion of the fee would go into a cultural support fund.  Thanks for all the ideas generated during our last parish lunch

THE FEAST OF ST. JOSEPH (MARCH 19), PATRON SAINT OF CANADA, AND ALSO AN IMPORTANT SOLEMNITY IN POLAND: Because of the Polish custom of celebrating name days (imieniny), and because Joseph was such a common name, the practice of “St. Joseph’s tables” (a special meal) became widespread on this day. Because this falls during Lent, it’s often a meatless meal. Our choir will sing a special hymn in honour of St. Joseph for the post-Communion today.

A POLISH PROVERB: “Swiety Jozef kiwnie broda, idzie zima nadol z woda” Saint Joseph shakes his beard, and see, winter has disappeared!

TRANSLATION OF TODAY’S SECOND READING FROM PAUL’S LETTER TO THE ROMANS: Brothers and sisters: Since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith to this grace in which we stand, and we boast in hope of the glory of God. And hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. For Christ, while we were still helpless, died at the appointed time for the ungodly. Indeed, only with difficulty does one die for a just person, though perhaps for a good person one might even find courage to die. But God proves his love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us.

"I would like to pray today for pastors who need to accompany the people of God during this crisis. May the Lord grant them the strength and the ability to choose the best ways to help.” --A message on Twitter from Pope Francis

PARISH CARE GROUP: Please advise of anyone to whom we should reach out with prayers, a note, call, wishes, etc. Please call Vicky Aucoin (562-7142) or Catherine Tucker (567-0146).
