OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

RECENT IN MEMORY OF CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE BUILDING FUND:
IMO Madeline Thompson from Joe and Patricia Ryba
IMO Sister Frances Beaton from Marilyn and Joe Gillis

GENERATING IDEAS AND PROJECTS FOR POLISH HERITAGE MONTH: Everyone is invited to think of projects large and small to mark Nova Scotia’s first ever Polish Heritage Month coming up this September – readings, small get-togethers, house concerts, student projects, artwork, etc., etc. We will be compiling a database of projects!

LOAVES AND FISHES: Thank you for the contributions last week to Loaves and Fishes – including the root vegetables!

DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE : Free-will offerings for the blessed candles totalled $105. This is going to the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace for humanitarian and disaster-relief work. (It’s a Polish custom on Candlemas to pray for safety from natural disasters.)

DESIGNING A PROPOSED SPECIALIZED “POLISH HERITAGE” LICENSE PLATE: The Atlantic Canada District of the Canadian Polish Congress (which is headquartered at the Polish Village Hall) is submitting a recommendation package to the province, which would (if approved) allow motorists to have an option for a Nova Scotia “Polish Heritage” license plate (similar to other specialized/themed license plates offered by the province). A portion of the fee would go into a cultural support fund. But we have to submit a proposal with some templates. We are going to be working with our very own Jeff Wilson to do sketches for your feedback (before the proposal goes in). But we’d like some initial ideas: Please feel free to speak with any of the Cape Breton reps on the board of the Atlantic Canada District of the Canadian Polish Congress: Peggy Ryba, Ursula Melski, Frank Starzomski, or Tom Urbaniak.

WORDS OF THANKS FROM POLISH CONSUL MICHAŁ FALEŃCZYK: Michal has a new assignment in Warsaw, and his last day at the Consulate was Friday. He called and asked to pass along his thanks and congratulations to our parish community – for all that everyone does, despite being relatively small in numbers, in overcoming challenges and adversity, working together so positively, and keeping the Polish language, culture, and traditions alive, as well as great cooperation with other cultural and faith communities. He enjoyed his visits here very much. He said that our perseverance as a Cape Breton Polish community is a real inspiration.

WINTER GOOD FOOD BUS will regularly be at the Polish Village Hall (indoors). Fresh produce at very affordable prices. There will be tables set up inside the Polish Village. Everyone is welcome. Next Food Bus visit is Saturday, February 29, 1:00pm to 2:30pm.

THE COMMUNITY KITCHEN: Every Wednesday, 11:30am to 1:00pm at our church. Free (or donate what you can) wholesome meals in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Everyone is welcome. Thank you to all volunteers and donors.

BREAKFAST RECEPTION: On Friday, March 13, 8:30am to 10:00am, The Polish Village Hall will be hosting a breakfast reception with the Honourable Mayann Francis (former Lieutenant Governor) and conversation about “Building Caring Communities for Children.” There is no charge. Everyone is welcome.

SATURDAY, MARCH 14th, 1:00pm to 3:00pm: There will be free-of charge tables at the Polish Village Hall for anyone who wishes to offer for sale locally produced items at a small community market alongside the Good Food Bus that day. Please call 902-563-1226

CLASSICAL CONCERT: On Friday, September 18th in the evening, Mezzo soprano Katarzyna Sądej will be in Sydney to give a classical concert at our church to honour Polish Heritage Month! More details to follow

NEW BOOK IN LIBRARY: For Polish-language readers, there is a very interesting and readable short new book in our parish library: Kardynał Stefan Wyszyński Prymas Polski. It’s about the fascinating life of Polish 20th century cardinal Stefan Wyszyński, who is about to be beatified. He stood up against Communism and all forms of oppression.

TRANSLATION OF TODAY’S SECOND READING FROM PAUL’S FIRST LETTER TO THE CORINTHIANS: Brothers and sisters: We speak a wisdom to those who are mature, not a wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age who are passing away. Rather, we speak God’s wisdom, mysterious, hidden, which God predetermined before the ages for our glory, and which none of the rulers of this age knew; for, if they had known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But as it is written: What eye has not seen, and ear has not heard, and what has not entered the human heart, what God has prepared for those who love him, this God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit scrutinizes everything, even the depths of God.

"The Lord, who is the first to care for us, teaches us to care for our brothers and sisters and the environment which he daily gives us. This is the first ecology that we need” --A message on Twitter from Pope Francis

We need to feel outrage as Moses did, as Jesus did, as God does in the face of injustice.”  -Pope Francis, writing in his post-synodal exhortation “Beloved Amazon,” which was released this week.

PARISH CARE GROUP: Please advise of anyone to whom we should reach out with prayers, a note, call, wishes, etc. Please call Vicky Aucoin (562-7142) or Catherine Tucker (567-0146).
