OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

RECENT IN MEMORY OF CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE BUILDING FUND:
IMO Mary and Peter Baryluk from Marianne Gates

Today, we will have the blessing of the chalk for the Feast of Epiphany. Please see the note below about inscriptions.

POLISH CUSTOMS FOR THE FEAST OF THE EPIPHANY (Objawienie Pańskie): The Feast of the Epiphany – Jan. 6 -- is a national holiday in Poland. One of the important Polish customs, which we observe in our parish, is the blessing of chalk. The chalk is then taken home and an inscription is made above a doorway: K+M+B 2020, which often happens during the annual blessing of the home by the Pastor. This signifies that just like the wise men in Matthew’s Gospel, we are ready to change our plans and make a significant commitment in following Jesus Christ and the Gospel message. (Another version is C+M+B from the Latin Christus mansionem benedicat (“Christ blesses this house.”). In many Polish cities, there are Epiphany processions. There are usually live animals in these processions.

NEW YEAR’S EVE AT THE POLISH VILLAGE HALL: This was a great success, with a full house. Thank you to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society and all who so kindly assisted

PARISH OPŁATEK POTLUCK: Sunday, January 12, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, Polish Village Hall. All welcome. There is no charge, but if you can please bring a dish and a non-perishable item for Loaves and Fishes. We will exchange the traditional Polish Christmas wafer, enjoy fellowship and kolędy to mark the end of the Christmas season, reflect on the year ahead, and extend blessings to each other. It is a longstanding Polish custom for parishes to hold Oplatek gatherings in January as a continuation of faithful community connection and hospitality. Fr. Rich Philiposki will be visiting us next week and will be at the Oplatek.

JASEŁKA” – MINI POLISH CHRISTMAS PAGEANT: We would be delighted to give you a role. No previous experience is required. We will have short workshops to prepare. They will be tomorrow (Monday) at 7:00pm at the Polish Village Hall and Thursday at 7:00pm at the Polish Village Hall. The mini-pageant will be presented at our Oplatek potluck next Sunday – 2:00pm to 4:00pm

ITEM FOR LOAVES AND FISHES: We would be so grateful to anyone who can bring a non-perishable item(s) for Loaves and Fishes to the Oplatek potluck next Sunday afternoon

THE COMMUNITY KITCHEN: resumes this Wednesday following a short holiday break: 11:30am to 1:00pm at our church. Free (or donate what you can) wholesome meals in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Everyone is welcome. Many thanks to all donors and sponsors
