OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

Uroczystość Jezusa Chrystusa, Króla Wszechświata / Feast of Christ the King: In the encyclical explaining why this Feast was established, Pope Pius XI wrote:  “Christ reigns, too, in the wills of men and women, for in him the human will was perfectly and entirely obedient to the Holy Will of God, and further by his grace and inspiration he so subjects our free-will as to incite us to the most noble endeavours. “He is King of hearts, too, by reason of his charity which exceeds all knowledge. And his mercy and kindness which draw all to him…”

THE FEAST OF ST. ANDREW: (Andrzejki) is an enjoyable time in the Polish tradition. It typically begins on the evening of November 29 and continues to the evening of November 30. One humorous folk custom is that single people find the wall furthest from the door, take off their shoes, and line them up toward the door. The owner of the shoes closest to the door is thought to be the next person who will get married!

ST. CECILIA: Friday was the feast day of St. Cecilia, patron saint of music. Heartfelt thanks to our choir for their beautiful service to our parish. God bless! Bóg zapłać!

RECENT SPONSORSHIP to the Community Kitchen Project from Dave Gillis and Brenda Timmons. Many thanks! Dziekujemy!

PLEASE NOTE: Our next parish lunch will be on Sunday, December 15, coinciding with the visit of Swiety Mikolaj (St. Nicholas) with small gifts for children.  Everyone is warmly welcomed! (No charge.) Swiety Mikolaj’s visit is pushed back a week because we have the Abbey tea on the afternoon of Sunday, December 8 (for which just a few tickets are remaining.)

The St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society Board meets this evening at 7:00pm.

A NOTE ON THIS PAST MONDAY’S POTLUCK:  hosted here, on Churches and Social Justice with guest Shannon Neufeldt, national network coordinator for KAIROS (ecumenical justice organization). We had 30 guests from various churches and congregations.  We started with prayer, reflection, and song. It was very positive. There are some common issues where it was agreed that churches in our region from different denominations should have a common voice. One was housing and inadequate services for recent international students. Another was the environment/flood mitigation (some of the churches are directly experiencing the problems), as well as continuing to work together to alleviate poverty in our community. The gathering agreed to come together 2-4 times per year to make common representations or encourage common projects as appropriate. The next gathering will be in January.

PIEROGI: Great results and wonderful volunteer effort: 265 dozen were produced and have sold out! Thanks so much
