OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

LUNCH AFTER MASS NEXT SUNDAY: Everyone is welcome. LOAVES AND FISHES: If you can, please bring a non-perishable item next Sunday.

PIEROGI FUND-RAISER: We are taking advance orders. $12 per dozen. Please call Stephanie at 578-3697 or Anne Marie and 549-1953. Pierogi-making will happen Thursday, November 14, starting at 9:00am. We are calling for volunteers and would be most grateful for the help!

POLISH ART CONTEST: Consul General Dariusz Wiśniewski is doing a contest for youth in our region ages 7 to 18. The task is to design a Christmas card (any art form/genre) that depicts in any way one or more Polish Christmas traditions. Prize is a basket/package of Polish items. Deadline is November 10. Submissions can be made by mail or as an e-mail scan. Coordinates are: Cosulate General of Poland, 3501 avenue du Musee, Montreal, Quebec, H3G 2C28; montreal.info@msz.gov.pl.

PRE-CHRISTMAS BAZAAR: Unique items, dozens of vendors. Saturday, November 9th 12:00 noon to 4:00pm Polish Village Hall, Admission $2. Presented by St. Mary's Polish Parish and St. Michael's Polish Benefit Society

BAKED GOODS FOR OUR ANNUAL PRE-CHRISTMAS BAZAAR which is coming up on Saturday, November 9, 12:00 to 4:00pm. (admission $2 per person) at the Polish Village Hall. We would be really grateful for donations of any baked goods for a beautiful baked goods table – with all proceeds to the parish. Please bring baked goods to the hall by 9:30am on the day of the bazaar. Many thanks!

ZNICZE / POLISH CEMETERY CANDLES:  At the back of the church, there is a limited supply of the traditional Polish cemetery candles. They are $5 each with proceeds to support the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society. It is a longstanding Polish custom to pray at gravesides at All Souls Day. Indeed, much of Poland comes to a stop as families travel to place candles at gravesides.This practices is called Zaduszki – named after Dzień Zaduszny (All Souls Day).

AN INVITATION TO OUR PARISH FROM ST. THERESA’S TO BE PART OF A SPECIAL MISSION/RETREAT IN DECEMBER: On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday December 9-11, Fr. Mark Cherry will lead a Mission at St. Theresa’s for anyone reflecting on meaning and fulfillment in life. It will include inspiring praise and worship, dynamic and thoughtful preaching, adoration of the blessed sacrament, an opportunity for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and celebration of the Holy Eucharist.

UKRAINIAN WOMEN’S CLUB FALL TEA AND SALE: Sunday, November 17, 2:00 to 4:00pm. Tickets ($10) are now for sale from Steffie (564-4187) or Rose (574-5412)

THE COMMUNITY KITCHEN: Meals every Wednesday in our church from 11:30am to 1:00pm. Wholesome meals and a very friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Meals are free or donate what you can. Everyone is welcome. Many thanks to all the volunteers and sponsors.

“SEARCHING FOR POLISH CAPE BRETON” – Pop-up museum: Tuesday, December 3 at the Polish Village Hall. Wendy Bergfeldt will broadcast her afternoon CBC show from on-site. We would be so grateful if you could bring in your photo albums and any immigration records from ancestors. We would like to photograph/scan these and help you to interpret them. Dr. Joanna Pylat (Polish University Abroad) will be with us again

Święty Jacku z pierogami (St. Hyacinth) with pierogi is an old Polish saying to lift someone’s spirits in a bleak situation. St. Hyacinth was a 13-th century Polish saint who was reputed, among other things, to feed starving communities with pierogi  during times of invasion!
