OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

IN MEMORY OF CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE BUILDING FUND:

Please remember in your prayers the souls of Manuel Palliyil Tony (CBU student); Colleen Collins, partner of Wayne Weatherbee (active volunteer and contributor of our Community Kitchen); and Laurent Lavoie, friend of the parish who attended many events in our community.

LUNCH AFTER MASS TODAY: Everyone is welcome. There is no charge. Please join us in Sala 1050 – the area attached to the church. We will also have a special cake, courtesy of the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society, to honour the recent feast of St. Michael.

LOAVES AND FISHES: Thank you to everyone who brought an item for Loaves and Fishes today. There will be a box at the entrance to the lunch area.

THE COMMUNITY KITCHEN: Meals every Wednesday in our church from 11:30am to 1:00pm. Wholesome meals and a very friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Meals are free or donate what you can. Everyone is welcome. Many thanks to all the volunteers and sponsors.

NOVA SCOTIA WILL HAVE A POLISH HERITAGE MONTH: The Nova Scotia House of Assembly unanimously passed a resolution to recognize September as Nova Scotia Polish Heritage Month, starting in 2020. The month of September has several important anniversaries connected to Polish Nova Scotians. We were very pleased to work on this initiative with MLA Derek Mombourquette (Sydney-Whitney Pier), Minister of Energy and Mines, who introduced the resolution in the legislature, as well as staff in the Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage. The newly recognized Nova Scotia Polish Heritage Month will be a springboard for additional projects, positive inter-cultural sharing, educational resources for schools, etc. The resolution cited the historic and contemporary contributions, in every sector, of Polish Nova Scotians, on Cape Breton Island and the mainland. O’CONNELL HOUSE: Fr. Martin MacDougall will be renting our parish glebe house on a month-to-month basis, and we would like to warmly welcome him. Serdecznie witamy!

TOMORROW (MONDAY): Glace Bay Heritage Museum (Old Town Hall) – 14 McKeen St. – Talk by Fran McKenzie (nee Lasouski), Polish elder in Glace Bay, with lots of memories of the Polish community in Glace Bay. 7:00pm. – refreshments served.

“SEARCHING FOR POLISH CAPE BRETON” – Pop-up museum: Tuesday, December 3 at the Polish Village Hall. Wendy Bergfeldt will broadcast her afternoon CBC show from on-site. We would be so grateful if you could bring in your photo albums and any immigration records from ancestors. We would like to photograph/scan these and help you to interpret them.

POLISH GREETING CARDS AND SOUP MIXES:  at the back of the church (all items donated). Suggested contribution: $2 per item.

THE POLISH CAPE BRETONERS COLOURING BOOK: Copies ($10) are for sale at the back of the church. If you purchase a copy, please write your name on the sheet to help us keep track of inventory. Many thanks.

CARDINAL STEFAN WYSZYŃSKI (1901-1981) TO BE BEATIFIED: He was the head of the church in Poland during the Millennium of Christianity (1966) and was often heroic in opposing authoritarian rule by the Communist regime and in speaking out against human rights abuses

THE RENOVATED AND REFURBISHED POLISH VILLAGE HALL is a comfortable, well appointed, modernized venue for events large and small.
