OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

RECENT IMO (IN MEMORY OF) CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE BUILDING FUND:
IMO Stella Paruch from Flo, Michael and Katie Paruch; Rosalie Starzomski

THANK YOU: Thanks to everyone who attended yesterday’s Polish language breakfast and workshop on the theme of gardening. It was a lot of fun, and a great discussion with Dr. Joanna Pyłat about approaches to keeping up the Polish language and introducing it to beginners.

SERDECZNIE WITAMY! Welcome to Dr. Joanna Pyłat, who is visiting us for the next 10 days to work with us on the Polonia Archiving Project and to start work with us on an upcoming “pop-up museum” (exhibit) called “In Search of Polish Cape Breton.” Joanna is staying at the glebe house. Joanna is affiliated with the Polish University Abroad and Jagiellonian University and has worked with Polish communities around the world. She has been to Cape Breton previously (in 2014) for a brief visit, when she attended our Dożynki Polish Harvest Festival and gave a lecture at CBU. So this is her first time in the rebuilt church.  She brings a positive and good-natured approach to all her projects, and is great to work with.

EVENING SOCIAL AND PRESENTATION BY DR. JOANNA PYŁAT: Next Sunday, June 30, at 6:00pm at the Polish Village Hall. Everyone is welcome. If you can bring a dish, that would be super (but by no means required or expected). We’ll be able to converse with Joanna about her work; she will do a short presentation. We’ll also have the Annual General Meeting of the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society. The formal business will take just a short time – and the rest of the evening will be an easygoing holiday gathering.

FREE WORKSHOP AND LUNCH ON GATHERING/SAVING RECORDS AND ARTIFACTS FROM CAPE BRETON’S POLISH COMMUNITY: We will start the planning for the pop-up museum “In Search of Polish Cape Breton,” with particular attention to little known information. It takes place this Tuesday at 10:30am until 1:00pm at the CBU Beaton Institute. Everyone is welcome but please RSVP by calling 902-563-1226 or e-mailing tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca .

DZIĘKUJEMY! Thank you for the super welcome and hospitality for the delegation last week from our sister city, Wałbrzych. They could not say enough about the kindness they experienced here. They also mentioned how much they like our church and parish and how they felt a very good spirit here. In their speeches on Monday, both mayors were very complimentary of Cape Breton’s Polish community. It was an intensive four days with many well-attended meetings and events, including the Partner City Workshop at CBU, all of which went  well (the only hiccup was at the end with flight delays and cancellations!). Please email photos to tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca . These will be given to Vicky Aucoin for our parish scrapbook.

Uroczystość Najświętszego Ciała i Krwi Pańskiej / CORPUS CHRISTI: The whole Church marks Corpus Christi, emphasizing the joy of the institution of the Eucharist. In Poland, it has special significance as a major religious and public holiday. The first Corpus Christi procession was held in 1320 in Krakow, and colourful processions with the Blessed Sacrament and various temporary altars are now held in every city and town in the country.  These are public manifestations of faith. During times of occupation and later during the Communist period, the faithful sometimes took great personal risks to participate in Boże Ciało ceremonies. At the time of completion of the bulletin, the wet weather had prevented set up at our garden and grotto for the usual procession and blessing. If we are unable to do the procession, we will do a special prayer with the Blessed Sacrament at the end of Mass, referring to page 73 in the book in the pews: Przez Pokolenia: Prayers and Customs of St. Mary’s Polish Church.

ANNIVERSARY SUPPER: We will have the 110th anniversary supper for the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society on Saturday, September 14th. More details to follow.

LOAVES AND FISHES: Thank you for your contributions last week, which have been delivered.

THE NEW POLISH CAPE BRETONERS COLOURING BOOK: Copies are $10 at the back of the church. If you purchase a copy, please write your name on the register (for inventory purposes). Many thanks.

OUTDOOR LANDSCAPING/PLANTING IDEAS: Please don’t hesitate to speak with John Morykot (Property Committee rep).

TRANSLATION OF TODAY’S SECOND READING FROM PAUL’S LETTER TO THE CORINTHIANS: Brothers and sisters: I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus, on the night he was handed over, took bread, and, after he had given thanks, broke it and said, "This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me."
In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me." For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes.

“Without communion and without compassion that is constantly nourished by prayer, theology not only loses its soul, but loses the intelligence and the ability to intepret reality in a Christian way!” --A recent message from Pope Francis on Twitter

WHITNEY PIER COMMUNITY KITCHEN PROJECT: The last meal before the summer is this Wednesday, June 26, 11:30am to 1:00pm in our church in Sala 1050. Thanks to all the partners, volunteers and donors. This has become a very valuable community service.

PARISH CARE GROUP: Please advise of anyone to whom we should reach out with prayers, a note, call, wishes, etc. Please call Vicky Aucoin (562-7142) or Catherine Tucker (567-0146).

PHOTOGRAPHS OF PARISH EVENTS: Vicky Aucoin has been compiling parish scrapbooks. As parish events happen, she’d be really grateful if you could share your photos! Vicky’s telephone number is 562-7142.

PARISH PROPERTY WORKING GROUP: Would you be able to help with property work a couple of hours every few weeks (rotation)? Please speak with John Morykot (jmorykot@eastlink.ca)
