SINCEREST CONDOLENCES: We will very much miss our fellow parishioner Walter Clarke, who passed away at age 95, only a few weeks after his wife, Mary, passed away. MARIAN MOVEMENT OF PRIESTS invites you to an evening of prayer and reflection in the form of a cenacle with Fr. Anthony Goodwin here at St. Mary’s Polish Church on Friday, May 17, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm including exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Rosary with meditations, benediction, and Mass.

FREE PUBLIC RESEARCH LECTURE AT CBU: “Can Concerned Catholics Repair the Church? A Study of Faith, Governance, and Accountability” (Tom Urbaniak). This is an ongoing research project – and the opportunity for reflection, dialogue and feedback will be most welcome. Everyone welcome and refreshments will be provided.  The lecture is hosted by the CBU Office of Research and Graduate Studies. Tuesday, May 14, at 7:00pm. Location: CBU Library.

SUNDAY, MAY 26, AFTER MASS: Special briefing for the parish; Sunday, June 9: Annual General Meeting of the parish. We are looking for volunteers to serve on our Nominations Committee (which will soon put out a call for candidates to offer for Rada). Please call 902-563-1226. Many thanks.

ANNIVERSARY SUPPER: We will have the 110th anniversary supper for the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society on Saturday, September 14th. More details to follow.

GAELIC ECUMENICAL SERVICE will be held on Sunday, May 19, at 3:00pm at Knox United Church, Glace Bay (270 Commercial St.) This is an annual event in celebration of Nova Scotia Gaelic Month, and will feature singing by the Ecumenical Gaelic Choir. The service will be conducted in Gaelic with helpful written information in English. Everyone is very welcome. Refreshments to follow.

TRANSLATION OF TODAY’S SECOND READING: (Rev 7:9. 14b-17) I, John, had a vision of a great multitude, which no one could count, from every nation, race, people, and tongue. They stood before the throne and before the Lamb, wearing white robes and holding palm branches in their hands. Then one of the elders said to me, “These are the ones who have survived the time of great distress; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. For this reason they stand before God’s throne and worship him day and night in his temple. The one who sits on the throne will shelter them. They will not hunger or thirst anymore, nor will the sun or any heat strike them.  For the Lamb who is in the center of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to springs of life-giving water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”

FEAST OF ST. STANISLAUS: This past week we marked the feast of St. Stanislaus, patron saint of Poland: Ordained as a priest in Krakow, Stanislaus (1030-1079) was very active in promoting the Christian faith in Poland. He established Benedictine monasteries. Stanislaw became critical of King Boleslaw for his cruelty in war and his personal immorality. The king declared the bishop a traitor and ordered him killed. It is said that the king’s soldiers refused the order to kill the bishop, and that the murder was committed by the king himself.  The murder stirred outrage across Poland, and the veneration of Stanislaus began shortly after his death. He was canonized in 1253 by Pope Innocent IV

WHITNEY PIER COMMUNITY KITCHEN PROJECT: Everyone is welcome for a warm meal and fellowship in a friendly, inclusive atmosphere. Every week, we have a diverse cross-section of the community. Meals are served every Wednesday from 11:30am to 1:00pm in our Sala 1050. Meals are free of charge or donate what you can to support the project. Many thanks to all volunteers and donors.
