OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

WESOŁYCH ŚWIĄT WIELKANOCNYCH! May the Risen Christ fill us with hope and with a divine determination for generosity, service and compassion. Wishing you a blessed Easter!

In the old Polish tradition, the Easter greeting is a two-way exchange: You say “Chrystus Zmartwychwstał” (Christ is risen) and the other person responds: “Prawdziwie zmartwychwstał!” (Truly He is risen).

A NOTE OF THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO ASSISTED WITH HOLY WEEK AND LENT: Bóg zapłać! To all involved in the Altar Society, choir, participants in the Swiecenie Pokarmow (blessing of Easter foods), palm-decorating workshop (Polish café), the decorating of the church, flower fund donors and, greeters, outreach, representatives of our parish for the washing of the feet, and anyone who helped in any way – your kindness means a lot!

EASTER BRUNCH – ŚWIĘCONKA MEAL AFTER MASS ON SUNDAY, MAY 5: This is a chance for us to gather for fellowship and traditional exchange of blessed eggs in celebration of Easter. Everyone is welcome. An informal potluck (similar to first Sundays of the month – but with focus on Easter foods) – as Easter falls so close this year to our ticketed May 3rd event.  For our Polish “pop-up” tutorial, we’ll focus on a few of the beautiful Polish Easter hymns and stories behind them.

RECENT IMO (IN MEMORY OF) CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE BUILDING FUND:
IMO Mary Clarke from Shirley Ardelli and family
IMO Bernice Ratushny from Shirley Ardelli and family

A NOTE OF PRAYER AND REMEMBRANCE: The Polish Conference of Catholic Bishops issued a message in solidarity with our Jewish brothers and sisters. Good Friday marked the 76th anniversary of the start of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising – the heroic struggle of Jewish Poles to survive the horrible Nazi occupation and Holocaust. The message reads: “ Wciąż płaczę, gdy ciebie zobaczę Warszawo ma - śpiewa chór dla upamiętnienia niewinnych ludzi, którzy zginęli tylko dlatego, że urodzili się Żydami. Dziś 76. Rocznica powstania w Getcie Warszawskim. Cześć i chwała bohaterom.”

On our parish Facebook page, we wrote the following note on Monday: “PRAYERS, SADNESS, AND SOLIDARITY: The parishioners of St. Mary’s Polish Church are very saddened by the devastating fire at Paris’s Notre Dame Cathedral. It is a place of sacred beauty and a world treasure, but we would like to extend special prayers to our brothers and sisters the parishioners of the Archdiocese of Paris -- the people who care for the cathedral and warmly welcome people to it every day, who use it as their church base from which to serve others. We are with you. We have some sense of what you are going through (and all the prayers helped us in our rebuilding). Que Dieu vous bénisse.”

INTRODUCING JAYASREE SREEKUMAR: Jayasree, an international student from India, is doing her post-graduate Diploma in Public Administration at CBU. In addition to her studies, she is employed part-time one day a week for the next few months working with Tom Urbaniak on projects related to the CBRM-Walbrzych sister city, including a workshop in June, a special course, and a future small park to honour the sister-city ties. Jayasree has already attended a couple of our Polish community events and we will see her at other events in the months ahead. She and her husband reside in the Pier. Witamy!

PARISH CARE GROUP: Please advise of anyone to whom we should reach out with prayers, a note, call, wishes, etc. Please call Vicky Aucoin (562-7142) or Catherine Tucker (567-0146).

WHITNEY PIER COMMUNITY KITCHEN PROJECT: Everyone is welcome for a warm meal and fellowship in a friendly, inclusive atmosphere. Every week, we have a diverse cross-section of the community. Meals are served every Wednesday from 11:30am to 1:00pm in our Sala 1050. Meals are free of charge or donate what you can to support the project. Many thanks to all volunteers and donors.

POLISH SUPPER: Friday, May 3 at the Polish Village Hall. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased after Mass from any member of the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society (or by calling 563-1226). We’re down to the wire on printing the Polish Cape Bretoners colouring book (published by the CBU Tompkins Institute, with Jeff Wilson’s beautiful sketches)- still aiming (hopefully!) to have it released at the supper.

PHOTOGRAPHS OF PARISH EVENTS: Vicky Aucoin has been compiling parish scrapbooks. As parish events happen, she’d be really grateful if you could share your photos! Vicky’s telephone number is 562-7142.

PARISH PROPERTY WORKING GROUP: If you would like to be part of a rotation for periodic yard work/mowing, we would be most grateful. Please speak with John Morykot (jmorykot@eastlink.ca)

TRANSLATION OF TODAY’S SECOND READING (FROM PAUL’S LETTER TO THE COLOSSIANS): Brothers and sisters: If then you were raised with Christ, seek what is above,
where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Think of what is above, not of what is on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ your life appears, then you too will appear with him in glory.

IN MEMORIAM / BUILDING FUND ENVELOPES / REBUILDING FUND ENVELOPES are at the back of the church. Many thanks for your support.
