OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEW YEAR’S NOTE FROM FR. DENNIS (which appeared originally in our mini-bulletin on New Year’s Day)
Happy New Year! I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your thoughtful cards & gifts. Our Parish has been decorated so beautifully inside and you continue to share your time, talents and treasure with us when needed.  Thank you for your warm and generous hearts. May God’s greatest blessings come down on you all and may your New Year be filled with Joy and Promise.     ---Fr Dennis Lamey
P.S. Thank You to all who made our Christmas and New Year’s celebration so beautiful. To all who help selflessly in the Church, may God continue to bless your lives.

BLESSING OF THE CHALK TODAY: Please take a piece of blessed chalk to make an inscription over a doorway in your home. On the feast of the Epiphany during Mass we always do the blessing of chalk. It's not an exclusively Polish tradition, but it's probably most prevalent among Polish Catholics. We regard it as a special way of bringing households and families together in faith. After Mass, everyone is invited to take a piece of the blessed chalk, go home and inscribe K+M+B 2019 above a doorway to symbolize that, in common with the wise men, we will try to always welcome Christ into our homes this year.

RECENT IN MEMORY OF ("IMO") CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE REBUILDING FUND):
IMO Ryba family from Joe and Patricia Ryba
IMO Frances and Peter Durkacz from Wisia MacNeil
IMO Mary and Peter Baryluk from Marianne Gates
Items for the Polish Mico-Market and the Opłatki were donated by Tom Urbaniak and Alison Etter in memory of their grandparents

PRAYERS AND BEST WISHES TO PATRICIA PARUCH: Patricia will be leaving Sydney on January 12, driving cross-continent with her husband to her new home in Oregon. She will be a director of nursing services there. We will miss her and thank her for her contributions to our parish. Patricia has promised to stay connected to our parish. Dziekujemy, powodzenia, i z Bogiem!

SIGNING CEREMONY FOR AGREEMENT BETWEEN WAŁBRZYCH, POLAND AND CAPE BRETON REGIONAL MUNICIPALITY will take place this Friday, January 11, at 9:00am at Whitney Pier Memorial Middle School. Last June, both municipal councils passed resolutions recognizing each other as partner cities. Now, both mayors will sign a more detailed agreement outlining areas where CBRM and Walbrzych will work together in the future. Our counterparts in Walbrzych will be linked by live-streaming for this signing. Youth and community representatives from both cities will be present. If you would like to attend, please don’t hesitate to speak with Tom Urbaniak (563-1226). As the venue is a school, we will be required to submit a list of names in advance.

SURPLUS PARISH SNOW BLOWER FOR SALE: The machine is a Bolens dual- wheel 13 h.p. 43-inch cut machine, believed to be a 2006 model. Please contact John Morykot at 564–9652. If there is no interest, it will be advertised to the general public.

CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS will be taken down on Monday, January 14 (a week from tomorrow), just after the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. In the Polish tradition, Christmas decorations are kept up, Opłatek gatherings are held, and carols are sung for a while after Epiphany. We’d be grateful for any volunteers who could help out that morning. We’ll announce a specific time next Sunday.

WHITNEY PIER COMMUNITY KITCHEN PROJECT: Meals are served every Wednesday from 11:30am to 1:00pm in our Sala 1050 (collaboration with other faith communities and organizations). Everyone is welcome for a good meal and friendly fellowship. Meals are free; any donations are gratefully received. Thanks to all the volunteers and sponsors. Anyone wishing to volunteer periodically or regularly, please call 563-1226. Many thanks.

PARISH OPŁATEK POTLUCK: Sunday, January 13 at 1:00pm in the Polish Village Hall. Everyone is welcome. There is no charge, but if you can please bring a dish and a non-perishable item for Loaves and Fishes. We will exchange the traditional Polish Christmas wafer, enjoy fellowship and kolędy to mark the end of the Christmas season, reflect on the year ahead, and extend blessings to each other. It is a longstanding Polish custom for parishes to hold Opłatek gatherings in January as a continuation of faithful community connection and hospitality. Fr. Rich Philiposki will be visiting us next week and will be at the Opłatek.

SYLWESTRA / NEW YEAR'S EVE at the Polish Village Hall was a great success, with a full house. Thank you to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society and all who so kindly assisted.

“If we live as Jesus taught us, and in harmony with what we proclaim, our witness will bear fruit.” – A recent message on Twitter from Pope Francis
