COMMUNITY KITCHEN PROJECT UPDATE :Lunchtime meals – free or donate what you can – to start September 26, 11:30am to 1:00pm in our church. This service will be offered every Wednesday thereafter. We will have a volunteer food handling course here on Tuesday, September 18, from 6 to 9pm. All are welcome. There will be a “dry run” for volunteers on Wednesday, September 19, at 11:30am. We are delighted to be working with a dedicated inter-faith steering committee. This week, Dr. Arsalan Raza (Cape Breton Muslin Society) contributed $1,000 toward the Community Kitchen Project in memory of his father, Syed Raza Ali. This now puts us at just over $3,000 to go toward materials and meals! We are so grateful. We recently put out a call for anyone wishing to consider sponsoring one week (for $250) or a contribution of any amount. Donation cheques, gratefully received, can be made payable to “Whitney Pier Polish Kitchen Society”. If you would like a charitable tax receipt, cheques can be made to St. Mary’s Polish Parish – but on the memo line please indicate that it’s intended for the Community Kitchen Project. Dziękujemy i Bóg zapłać! Also, to volunteer on one or more weeks and to be assigned a role, please contact Norm Hubbert at 902-577-0723; normhubbert@yahoo.ca. Thank you so much!

PRAYER FOR THE FEAST OF THE NATIVITY OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY (OUR PARISH FEAST DAY): “Impart to your servants, we pray, O Lord, the gift of heavenly grace, that the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin may bring deeper peace to those for whom the birth of her Son was the dawning of salvation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.”

TRANSLATION OF TODAY’S SECOND READING FROM THE LETTER OF ST. JAMES: My brothers and sisters, show no partiality as you adhere to the faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ. For if a person with gold rings and fine clothes comes into your assembly, and a poor person in shabby clothes also comes in, and you pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes and say, “Sit here, please, ” while you say to the poor one, “Stand there, ” or “Sit at my feet, ”have you not made distinctions among yourselves and become judges with evil designs? Listen, my beloved brothers and sisters. Did not God choose those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that he promised to those who love him?

Carry peace with you to give it to others with your life, with a smile, with works of charity. Saint Mother Teresa, pray for us!” – A recent message on Twitter from Pope Francis
