OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

Świętej pamięci AGGIE (WRÓBLEWSKI) STEPHENSON: Aggie passed away on Tuesday. She will be deeply missed by her whole parish family. Aggie was a friend to many and a devoted lifelong member of our parish, an active leader in many ways. Aggie’s funeral Mass is tomorrow (Monday) at 11:00am here at St. Mary’s Polish Church, with reception to follow in Sala 1050 (where the library is sponsored by Aggie – which is just one example of her generosity). Everyone is welcome. Sincere condolences and prayers are extended to Aggie’s family. Wieczny odpoczynek racz jej dać Panie, a światłość wiekuista niechaj jej świeci.

A NOTE OF THANKS FROM LOAVES AND FISHES: Last Sunday, we brought fresh produce to church to be blessed (Polish custom for Feast of the Assumption of Mary). All the produce was given to Loaves and Fishes. Fellow parishioner Bernie Paruch, a volunteer at Loaves and Fishes, sent this note: On behalf of Loaves and Fishes, I would like to thank all those parishioners who brought items to church on Sunday.  Our patrons enjoyed an array of vegetables with their meal on Monday and also a huge fresh salad to go along with it. We served 107 meals that day. They also were able to take apples and oranges with them as they went about their day. Fresh fruit and vegetables are a luxury for us, so thanks again. Dziekuje bardzo!!!

KITCHEN CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: You may have noticed the work done on the kitchen serving window and shutters. Willie LeBlanc of Gillis Home Hardware advises that production of cabinets is running about a week behind, but he expects them in the week of August 19, with delivery to us on August 27 and installation to begin the next day. Thanks for all your support.

UPCOMING EVENTS FOR SEPTEMBER:
Sunday, September 9: The Sunday closest to our parish feast day (Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary). We will have a lunch after Mass and celebrate the 105th anniversary of our parish.
Sunday, September 16, Pier 21, Halifax, 11:00am: Some of our parishioners are involved in the unveiling of a monument to honour Polish emigration to Nova Scotia. Everyone is welcome.
Sunday, September 30: Lunch and workshop/Launch at our church of the Atlantic Canada district of the Canadian Polish Congress (with visitors). Community walk to follow.

A WARM WELCOME TO ALL VISITORS: Please sign the guest book at the back of the church and please leave your e-mail address to receive notices about parish events. Also, we would be happy to give you a tour of the church. We wish you safe travels and please stay in touch. Witamy serdecznie i miłej podróży!

ST. HYACINTH OF POLAND (1185-1287) Święty Jacek – FEAST DAY: AUG. 17: St. Hyacinth was a devout and kind priest who founded monasteries, helped the poor, and worked so that women could have a more active role in the church. Although a doctor of law and divinity, he was a humble friar who was close to the people of the Polish countryside. He also rescued sacred objects from fires and attacks in war, believing sacred objects represented the devotion to God and holiness of the people.“Święty Jacku z pierogami” is an old Polish expression, believing that help is possible in very difficult circumstances. It comes from a story of St. Hyacinth’s visit to Koscielec, Poland. People were about to starve because of a drought. Together, at Hyacinth’s urging, they prayed through the night. The next day, crops started to appear and there was enough to eat. The people treated Hyacinth to pierogi made from this produce.

TRANSLATION OF TODAY'S SECOND READING FROM ST. PAUL’S LETTER TO THE EPHESIANS: Brothers and sisters: Watch carefully how you live, not as foolish persons but as wise, making the most of the opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not continue in ignorance, but try to understand what is the will of the Lord. And do not get drunk on wine, in which lies debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and playing to the Lord in your hearts, giving thanks always and for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father.

“Love overcomes all difficulties. Love gives us the strength to carry on." -- a recent message on Twitter from Pope Francis
