PLEASE MARK SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, ON YOUR CALENDAR: We are planning a lunch and workshop to coincide with the creation of the Atlantic Canada district of the Canadian Polish Congress, which will be based in Sydney. Wladyslaw Lizon, the national president of the Canadian Polish Congress, will be here.

THE MIRACLE OF THE LOAVES AND FISHES: In 1981, a group of concerned citizens gathered together to address the problem of feeding the hungry in Sydney. The result was the formation of Loaves and Fishes, a community kitchen that is open 365 days a year, now in its 37th year. Today, Loaves and Fishes feeds between 70-130 people a day, offering a nutritious meal to those who often have very little. Many return daily, and Loaves and Fishes has become the place they can relax, chat with others, and—in the winter months—come in out of the cold. On this Loaves and Fishes Sunday, it is especially appropriate we pray for those who are so much in need. As St. Mary’s continues to develop its own Wednesday kitchen for the needy, we should be truly thankful for what we have in our own lives. We might consider offering support through our donations to both Loaves and Fishes and our own community kitchen project to feed the hungry beginning this September. There is a sponsorship letter with an invitation to share it with anyone who might consider sponsoring the weekly meal in our own kitchen here at St. Mary’s for $250. Please see Tom Urbaniak or Jerry Pocius. Many thanks! Dziekujemy bardzo!

PRAYER OF ST. IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA (feast day on July 31): “Dearest Lord, teach me to be generous; teach me to serve You as You deserve; to give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the wounds, to toil and not to seek for rest, to labour and not to ask for reward save that of knowing I am doing Your Will.”

Blessed Edmund Bojanowski Feast Day August 7th: Edmund Bojanowski was born on 14 November 1814 in Grabonóg in the Archdiocese of Poznań. A nobleman, he chose a path of celibacy to be of service for the Kingdom of God. He interpreted the earthly reality in the Evangelical spirit, and especially helped marginalized people in the countryside. In 1850 he founded the Congregation of the Sisters Servants of the Blessed Virgin Mary. A precursor of Vatican II, he realised the common call to sainthood, serving as a role-model of the lay apostolate. He died on 7 August 1871 in Górka Duchowna and is remembered as a pioneer of the lay apostolate.

From letters of Blessed Edmund Bojanowski to the Sisters Servants of the Blessed Virgin Mary: Work with your soul, loving God above all; work with your heart, practising love for neighbours; work with your thought, keeping it close to Christ’s cross; work with your hand, serving the poor and ill as if you served Jesus himself. Even if you ever feel weak, may your faithfulness not be shaken. Do not seek reward on earth, do not work for yourself, but for God and for neighbours.

“You too are like the Good Samaritan when you recognize the face of Christ in those near you." -- a recent message on Twitter from Pope Francis

“The first service one owes to others in a community involves listening to them. Just as our love for God begins with listening to God’s Word, the beginning of love for others is learning to listen to them. God’s love for us is shown by the fact that God not only gives God’s Word but also lends us God’s ear.  . . . We do God’s work for our brothers and sisters when we learn to listen to them." –– Dietrich Bonhoeffer

OUR PARISH MISSION STATEMENT: (adopted in October 2012) “The Mission of St. Mary’s Polish Parish is to be a model community of faith, a devout, participatory Roman Catholic parish, welcoming to all, and a beacon of hope and generosity. Polish heritage, traditions, culture, and language are integral to our spiritual experience. In all we do, we strive for holiness, dignity, justice, and excellence.”
