OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

FATHER RICH REPORTS:
Niech będzie pochwalony Jezus Chrystus! Praise be Jesus Christ!
Dear Parishioners & Friends:
We concluded the Easter season last Sunday with the Solemnity of Pentecost. The Paschal candle was put away (except for funerals and baptisms), the red colour disappeared from the altar and processional cross. We return to the ordinary (green colour) time of the Church year. However, today and next Sunday we have special solemnities observed. Today we celebrate the great mystery of the Most Holy Trinity (God in three persons). Next Sunday, we celebrate the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, more often known by the Latin name CORPUS CHRISTI or in Polish “BOZE CIALO.” If the weather cooperates, we will have the traditional procession to three altars on the parish grounds. Later this week, Fr. Joseph Mroz, SJ, the nephew of Stella Paruch, will arrive by ferry from Newfoundland. Father Joe is the chaplain for students and faculty at Memorial University in St. John’s. He will take my place as I take two weeks’ vacation. The new pastor, Fr. Dennis Lamey’s, appointment will be effective on Wednesday, June 27. Let us pray for all priests and parishes that undergo transition.

IN MEMORY OF (IMO) CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE REBUILDING FUND:

BOŻE CIAŁO/CORPUS CHRISTI SUNDAY (JUNE 3) – LUNCH AFTER MASS NEXT SUNDAY: Everyone is welcome. It will also be a chance to welcome (back) Fr. Joe Mroz. The following is a list of parishioners who are next in the rotation to please bring a dish: Janet Hawthorne, Rita MacDonald,  Evelyn Wojcik, Catherine and Herb Tucker, Linda Morykot, Edyta Baczyk, Patsy Kiley, Michelle Pellerine and family, Edmund and Magda Rudiuk, Janina MacCormack, Angela and Howie Doiron, Teresa Fagan

LOAVES AND FISHES: If you can, please bring a non-perishable item for Loaves and Fishes next Sunday. Many thanks.

PIERSCAPE: happening this week with various events in our community. Opening reception this evening at 7:00pm at Whitney Pier Memorial School.

ST. MICHAEL'S POLISH BENEFIT SOCIETY meets this evening at 7:00pm.

OUR PARISH’S ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING: The Nominating Committee has been working diligently ahead of the Annual General Meeting, but decided to make a request to Rada for a short postponement of the date in order to be able to complete the Nominating Committee’s work. The new date for the Annual General Meeting will be Sunday, June 10, after the 10:00am Mass. However, we will still have the usual AGM documents (eg. pastor’s message, financial report, activities summary) ready earlier (by next Sunday), for anyone who may wish a copy before the day of the meeting. Please continue to be in touch with the Nominating Committee with input and nominations: The Nominating Committee consists of three non-current Rada members -- Marjorie Ardelli, Janet Hawthorne, Krista Ann Starzomski – plus a current Rada member (Tom Urbaniak) who is not re-offering, having served six consecutive years and reached the term limit. The report of the Nominating Committee is reviewed by the pastor before the AGM.

FATHER NORMAN MacPHEE (a former pastor) will celebrate his 60th anniversary of ordination on Friday, June 1, at a Mass of Thanksgiving at 6:00pm at Holy Cross Church in Glace Bay. All are invited to the Mass and reception.

CORO CANTABILE will have a celebration in song on Sunday, June 3, at 7:00pm at St. Anne’s Church in Glace Bay. Admission is $20.

SPECIAL HEALING MASS at St. Joseph (North Sydney) on Monday, June 4, at 7:00pm. There will be three priests (Fr. Denis Phaneuf from Saskatoon, Fr. Charlie Cameron, and Fr. Patrick O’Neill). All are welcome.

PREPARING PARISH GROUNDS FOR SUMMER: a kind request for help on Friday. With Boże Ciało/Corpus Christi coming up next Sunday (and an outdoor procession weather permitting), we would like to get the grotto area and grounds prepared for summer, clean up litter, trim, etc. Would you be able to spare some time on Friday morning (June 1) at 9:00am? Weather permitting. It would be truly appreciated. Please meet at the church.  Thanks so much.

MONTE CASSINO: Anna Wesolkowska sent a link to an excellent article this week in the Globe and Mail on this crucial part of Polish and Canadian history, crucial to the Allied victory in World War II and so devastating and traumatic in loss of life. To access the article, simply google “Monte Cassino: The hope that bloomed in the rubble of war.”
