OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

FATHER RICH REPORTS:
Chrystus Zmartwychwstal! Christ is Risen!
Dear Parishioners & Friends:
This is a great day. Today, on the seventh Sunday of Easter we celebrate the Solemnity of the Ascension of Our Lord Jesus into Heaven. The last recorded words of Jesus call for the apostles and us to go proclaim the Good News to the ends of the earth and to know that He is always with us until He comes again in glory one day. We are also graced to have present our Bishop Brian Dunn to administer the Sacrament of Confirmation to four of our youth: Caleigh Marie Pellerine, Matthew Pellerine, Kristofer Starzomski-Wilson and James Alexander Campbell. I want to thank their parents for continual fulfillment of the baptismal promises made by them at their child's baptism to bring them up in the faith through Catechism classes and preparation for the other sacraments. I thank the sponsors as well for being there for them today and always. The month of May, when we celebrate Mother’s Day, is very much a Marian month and we will have devotions through the praying or singing of the litany almost daily after Mass. A reminder that we will have our monthly potluck brunch today Sunday, May 13. Bishop Dunn will bless our Sala 1050 and kitchen. Have a blessed week ahead.

Najpiękniejsze życzenia na Dzień Matki! / Happy Mothers’ Day!

IN MEMORY OF (IMO) CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE REBUILDING FUND:

AFTER 10:00am MASS TODAY – BLESSING AND LUNCH: Bishop Dunn will bless our Sala 1050 and kitchen. We will have lunch. Everyone is welcome! “Sala 1050” is so named because it was opened in 2016, the 1050th anniversary of the baptism of Poland. Please join us to congratulate Caleigh, Kristofer, James, and Matthew on their Confirmation and to acknowledge their sponsors and families.

LOAVES AND FISHES: Thank you to everyone who brought a non-perishable item today. There will be a collection box at the entrance to the lunch area.

COMMUNITY KITCHEN STEERING COMMITTEE meets tomorrow at 4:00pm in Sala 1050. We are still on track to begin the weekly meals (free of charge or pay-what-you-can) in our church this fall. This is a service previously offered at Trinity United Church, before it closed. (Some of the former Trinity members are part of the steering committee).  Other churches and the mosque in the Pier are working with us on this (an inter-faith effort). A  positive meeting was held this past week with the NSCC Culinary Arts program. If you would like to be involved in this project in any way, please speak with Tom Urbaniak or call 902-563-1226.

FOOD HANDLERS CERTIFICATION COURSE: June 20 at the Grand Lake Road fire hall. The parish will cover the cost for our volunteers who are available to get this certification. Please register soon, as the spaces tend to fill up quickly.

DZIĘKUJEMY! A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who helped in any way with the events and projects of May 3, 4, 5: The beautiful Polish supper and zabawa to mark the Polish holiday, the Stories of Resilience workshop at the Polish Village Hall, and the Jane’s Walk in the Pier. As part of the Jane’s Walk, there were many visitors to our church for the first time, and they commented on the warm and inviting atmosphere.

PARISH ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING: after the 10:00am Mass on Sunday, May 27. We will have financial and other reports and updates, and Rada election. If you might be interested in recommending someone, please speak this week with any of the following members of the Nominations Committee: Marjorie Ardelli, Janet Hawthorne, or Krista Ann Starzomski.

PARISH FOOD GARDEN COMMITTEE: We would be most grateful for volunteers to be part of this year’s committee. It will involve some help with planting, weeding, and harvesting our ogródek (Polish food garden). At planting time, we will also do a fun Polish-language tutorial related to gardening. Much of the produce will go to our Community Kitchen.

CANADIAN POLISH CONGRESS: The national board has now approved establishing an Atlantic Canada district of the Canadian Polish Congress (it will be based in Sydney). Wladyslaw Lizon, national president of the Congress, will visit here to launch it. A date will be picked soon.

ALZHEIMER’S SOCIETY – Note from fellow parishioner Brittany Fagan-Steele: Our family is taking part in the Sydney Walk for Alzheimer's (May 6th) and are looking for donations towards this very important cause. If you would like to make a pledge, you can speak to us after Mass or you can make it online at www.alzgiving.ca (you can find us by team “Helen’s Angels” or by name.) Any donation would be much appreciated, we thank you for supporting our efforts to “make memories matter.”

POPE FRANCIS' PRAYER INTENTION FOR MAY: That the lay faithful may fulfill their specific mission, by responding with creativity to the challenges that face the world today.

IN MEMORIAM / BUILDING FUND ENVELOPES / REBUILDING FUND ENVELOPES are at the back of the church. Many thanks for your support.
