OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

FATHER RICH REPORTS:
Dear Parishioners & Friends:
Chrystus Zmartwychwstal! Christ is Risen!
On this fourth Sunday of Easter the church universal observes this day as “Good Shepherd Sunday” as we have a world day of prayer for vocations. Married life and being a biological father or mother is a vocation, as well as is the single state, However, the Church wants us to pray that there will be future ‘shepherds” or priests to serve the people of God in parishes around the world. Of course, vocations to the priesthood and religious life come out of good families that are united and faithful in their mission of bringing children into the world and by their example bringing them up in the practice and belief of their faith. I will speak about the present situation, which is in fact critical to the Church in Canada and especially in our Atlantic region, today at Mass. I have heard that our four candidates for the Sacrament of Confirmation enjoyed their experience last Saturday at Our Lady of Fatima Parish where over 100 youth from various parishes in our dioceses gathered for a special day of faith instruction as well as recreation. Bishop Dunn attended the events and concluded by presiding at Mass at 4:15pm. Next weekend there is a very special faith-inspiring event called the THE NEW EVANGELIZATION SUMMIT, a  2- day conference in Ottawa that brings together speakers who are leaders in the New Evangelization. It will feature six world class speakers who will inspire and teach us to bring the Gospel to those who need to be reignited with a living sense of faith. There will be streaming to a very large screen at Holy Redeemer. The dates are April 27-28. To register visit NEW EVANGELIZATION.CA on the internet. There are flyers at the back of the church. The weekday Mass schedule will be normal this week with Mass Monday morning and then Wednesday through Friday evening.

“STORIES OF RESILIENCE” EVENT as part of the Isle of Story Festival will take place at the Polish Village Hall on Thursday, May 3, 2018, from 3:30 to 5:30pm. Everyone is welcome. This will be a great session (moderated like a conversation) that will bring together elders and others from diverse cultural communities.

DZIĘKUJEMY! Sincere thank you for:
-The wonderful food and fellowship at last Sunday’s Święconka Brunch
-Contributions to Loaves and Fishes last Sunday.
-The work of our volunteers who devoted last Monday to making pierogi
-The very enjoyable Polski Piątek/Galicia Night on Friday

“JANE’S WALK” IN WHITNEY PIER: Saturday, May 5, starting at 2:00pm from the Whitney Pier Historical Museum. Our church will be part of the walk, and we will visit and talk about the many one-of-a-kind multicultural places and spaces of the Pier. On that same weekend in cities around the world, citizens will be doing “Jane’s Walks”. The purpose of the walks is to generate conversations and positive change. “Jane’s Walks” are named after the late Jane Jacobs, the globally known best-selling writer on improving cities.

UKRAINIAN SUPPER AND AUCTION: Ukrainian Parish Hall, Saturday, May 5, at 6:30pm $10.

FOOD HANDLERS’ CERTIFICATION COURSE: The next course is at the Grand Lake Road Fire Hall on June 20. We will need several parishioners to have this course, as our new kitchen will require on site a person with this certification when food preparation is happening. If you can spare a day to take the course, please speak with any member of the Rada. Several people from other faith communities who are working with us on the Community Kitchen Project will also be taking this course.

THE WHITNEY PIER POLISH KITCHEN SOCIETY voted on Monday to join the Canadian Polish Congress (St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society is already a member). The Whitney Pier Polish Kitchen Society was incorporated last year. This membership in the Congress will allow the Congress to establish a district for Atlantic Canada.

ALZHEIMER’S SOCIETY: Note from fellow parishioner Brittany Fagan-Steele: Our family is taking part in the Sydney Walk for Alzheimer's (May 6th) and are looking for donations towards this very important cause. If you would like to make a pledge, you can speak to us after Mass or you can make it online at www.alzgiving.ca (you can find us by team “Helen’s Angels” or by name.) Any donation would be much appreciated, we thank you for supporting our efforts to “make memories matter.”

A PRAYER FOR EARTH DAY (TODAY!) FROM THE SISTERS OF MERCY: “God, we thank you for all of creation. We ask your forgiveness where we have failed to be just stewards. And we now ask for your guidance in restoring the face of the earth. May we learn to live in harmony, safety and just sharing of resources among all so that we achieve the kingdom of God. Peace be to this community. Peace be to this land. Peace be to all people. Amen.
