OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

FATHER RICH REPORTS:
Niech Bedzie Pochwalony Jezus Chrystus! Praise be Jesus Christ!
Dear Parishioners & Friends:
I am writing my report while in the office of Five Holy Martyrs Parish on Chicago’s Southwest side. I arrived Monday afternoon and began the Mini-Mission on Tuesday. This parish was once among the largest of the nearly 50 Polish parishes in the Archdiocese of Chicago. The Society of Christ was invited in 2001 to staff the parish. This church was privileged to host Cardinal Karol Wojtyla three times – twice as Archbishop of Krakow and in 1979 as Pope John Paul II. On the parking lot, a special Polish Mass was celebrated with over 10,000 in attendance in October 1979. The neighbourhood around the church is now primarily Hispanic, but many Poles (“Gorale”) drive in on Sunday from other areas of the city and suburbs. This Sunday, I will be conducting a Lenten Mission at Our Lady of Victory Church in Chatham, Ontario. Chatham is about halfway between Windsor and London. In 1993, after I left Sydney, I was appointed the first Society of Christ pastor and served here for two years. Today the church congregation of about 180 families is fighting for its life as the Bishop is attempting to incorporate the church into a “Family of Parishes” that would eventually liquidate the church and the beautiful grounds that would be prime property -- 5 acres of commercial property to sell! Please pray for Our Lady of Victory Parish. Weekday Masses will resume on Wednesday.      This Wednesday we will have for the first time this season the Lenten Lamentations (Gorzkie Zale) in English sung after the 6:30pm Mass. Have a blessed week !

IN MEMORY OF (IMO) CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE REBUILDING FUND:
IMO Catherine Wanat Ardelli from Shirley Ardelli
IMO Julia Munshaw from Marjorie Ardelli & Carolyn Kiley

LOAVES AND FISHES: Thank you to everyone who brought a non-perishable item for Loaves and Fishes today. There is a collection box at the entrance to the lunch area.

MASS FOR SHUT-INS: We are kindly requesting your presence on the evening of Tuesday, March 13. We will need to fill the “congregation seats” in the studio, so if you can spare about an hour, we would be very grateful. Please write your name in the binder (Marjorie Ardelli or Tom Urbaniak will have it after Mass). This is a chance for us to share the warmth and welcome of our parish with a very wide audience. Please gather at 6:00pm on Tuesday, March 13 (for the 6:30 taping) at the CTV Studio on George St. If you need a ride, please call 902-563-1226. If you have Polish folk attire or a St. Michael’s jacket or a Polish tartan scarf, please wear it to the taping. The Mass will be taped and shown the following Sunday.

PARISH ENVELOPES: If you would like parish envelopes, please advise Fr. Rich, any member of the Parish Finance Committee (Wayne Joseph, Janet Hawthorne, Peter McCarron, Janusz Wawrzyszyn, Tom Urbaniak) or call 902-563-1226. Many thanks!

PAINTING OF LAST SUPPER/GILDING: This work has begun. Many thanks to Jeff Wilson, Maura McKeough, and the ongoing work of the Sacred Objectis Committee.

CZWARTA NIEDZIELA WIELKIEGO POSTU / FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT – LAETARE SUNDAY: The Latin word means “to rejoice,” and comes from the traditional Introit at the Mass, “O be joyful Jerusalem.” Rose-coloured vestments are often worn on this Sunday, which follows the mid-point of Lent. This particular Sunday sometimes sees a relaxation of the rigours of Lent. So, flowers may be placed on the altar to indicate hope that Easter is within sight. It was once called the “Sunday of the five loaves,” after the miracle of Jesus’ feeding of the multitude, which is reported in all four canonical Gospels. Raduj się, Jerozolimo, zbierzcie się wszyscy, którzy ją kochacie. Cieszcie się, wy, którzy byliście smutni, weselcie się i nasycajcie u źródła waszej pociechy. Rejoice, O Jerusalem: and come together all you that love her: rejoice with joy, you that have been in sorrow: that you may exult, and be filled with consolation.

PARISH LIBRARY COMMITTEE: will have a short meeting after Mass today to plan the “curation” of books and other resources as well as the sponsored children’s play area beside the library (which will be movable when the full hall space is needed for another activity).

ALTAR SOCIETY: will meet next Sunday after Mass. If you would like to be part of the Altar Society or learn more about it, please join us for this short meeting.

FINANCE COMMITTEE: meeting Saturday, March 24, 10:00am in Sala 1050.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING: date set for Sunday, May 27, after the 10:00am Mass. (By-laws ask the Rada to set the date for after Easter but before summer and give a long notice.) There will be a financial overview, Rada elections, and annual reports. If you would like to serve on the Nominations Committee, which will start meeting in April, please call 902-563-1226. Many thanks.

KITCHEN CONSTRUCTION: Over the next several weeks, there will again be construction activity in the church as we move toward finishing the kitchen.
