OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

FATHER RICH REPORTS:
Niech Bedzie Pochwalony Jezus Chrystus! Praise be Jesus Christ!
Dear Parishioners & Friends:
We arrived back safely and on time last Thursday evening from our Las Vegas getaway trip. I thank you for the prayers as we had no accidents or misfortunes on our trip. Although we had brilliant sunshine, it was unseasonably cool for late February both in Las Vegas and Southern California. Last Sunday, we attended two Polish Masses and two Gorzkie Zale devotions at our two Las Vegas parishes that, although English territorial parishes, serve the St. John Paul II Polish Apostolate.  In California we visited our former refugee, Mirek Pupiec, who lives with his son (age 17)  around the corner from the famed Wilshire Blvd in an apartment in Beverly Hills.  He owns a security company with about 400 customers and has done a lot of commercial work in installing smart home and business cameras etc.  He treated our group to both lunch and dinner. He will be making a $500 donation to the Rebuilding Fund as well with a plaque of a “grateful refugee” whom our parish helped to start a new and better life for himself. Today at about 11:20 there will be a half hour class for our PREP children and youth. As March break begins next week, there will be no sessions on March 11 and 18th.
This coming week I will be conducting a Lenten Mini-Mission in two of our Society of Christ Parishes: Five Holy Martyrs in Chicago and Our Lady of Victory in Chatham, Ontario. There will be no weekday Masses until I return the following week. There will, however, be a service that incorporates the scripture readings as well as Holy Communion followed by Stations of the Cross this coming Friday at 6:30pm. Deacon John Scott is scheduled to be here. I am sorry for the inconvenience and will not be planning any other travels till next June. We are looking forward to hosting the Mass for shut-ins that is scheduled to be taped at the CTV studio next Tuesday, March 13th. We hope a number of parishioners will be able to be participants. Our Confirmation Class youth will be asked to participate with other youth from Confirmation classes from Sydney-area parishes in a special event.  The gathering will be Saturday, April 14th from 11:00am to 4:00pm at Our Lady of Fatima. It is called Amazing Race and will include lunch.

IN MEMORY OF (IMO) CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE REBUILDING FUND:

LUNCH AFTER 10:00am MASS TODAY in Sala 1050. Everyone is welcome. There is no charge.

LOAVES AND FISHES: Thank you to everyone who brought a non-perishable item for Loaves and Fishes today. There is a collection box at the entrance to the lunch area.

MASS FOR SHUT-INS: We are kindly requesting your presence on the evening of Tuesday, March 13. We will need to fill the “congregation seats” in the studio, so if you can spare about an hour, we would be very grateful. Please write your name in the binder that will be circulated during lunch today. This is a chance for us to share the warmth and welcome of our parish with a very wide audience. Please gather at 6:00pm on Tuesday, March 13 (for the 6:30 taping) at the CTV Studio on George St. If you need a ride, please call 902-563-1226. If you have Polish folk attire or a St. Michael’s jacket or a Polish tartan scarf, please wear it to the taping. The Mass will be taped and shown the following Sunday.

PAINTING OF LAST SUPPER/GILDING: The Sacred Objects Committee met last Monday with Jeff Wilson and with Maura McKeough (Director of Cultural Resources for the Fortress of Louisbourg). When we were rebuilding the church, Maura had advised us on the restoration of the altar (donated from Manitoba), which was very fragile. In the coming weeks, Jeff will be painting the Last Supper on the high altar (colour scheme similar to da Vinci’s painting). Maura will do minimalist antique gold gilding. We can then step back as a parish and determine if we would like any additional gilding. We are very grateful to Jeff and Maura for their talents and generosity.

RADA MEETING: this Wednesday at 7:00pm in Sala 1050.

PARISH LIBRARY COMMITTEE: Short meeting after the lunch today to discuss what resources to include in the library and to plan the sponsored children’s play area beside the library (which will be movable when the full hall space is needed for another activity).

KITCHEN CONSTRUCTION: Appliances have been ordered and all estimates have been reviewed. We should be seeing construction activity this week. Thanks for your support.

COMMUNITY KITCHEN PROJECT: Inter-faith effort/weekly meals (free of charge or pay what-you-can); target start date for six-month pilot: Fall 2018. The next meeting of the steering committee will be in our church on Monday, March 12, at 4:00pm.  If you would like to participate, please call 902-563-1226.

POGORIA POLISH FOLK REHEARSALS will resume next Sunday after the 10:00am Mass. All welcome. We’re aiming for the next Polski Piątek open gathering on April 20 at 6:00pm at the Polish Village Hall.

FEAST DAY OF ST. CASIMIR: March 4th, He is one of the main patron saints of Poland and Lithuania. Although St. Casimir died at the age of 25 (in 1484), his short time as prince-regent of Poland was marked by tolerance and a search for peace. St. Casimir followed a simple, prayerful life. He did not like wealthy trappings. He wanted noble families to share their bounty with the poor. As we take part in our communities as citizens, and as we take leadership roles in our parish and in community organizations, we ask for the same grace and wisdom. Święty Kazimierz, módł się za nami! St. Casimir, pray for us.

ST. PATRICK'S DAY DANCE: Hosted by St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society to support Polish Village Hall, next Saturday, March 10, 9:00pm to1:00am. Late evening mini-buffet. $10. DJ Jimmy MacKinnon. Tickets after Mass today during lunch or by calling Nicole at 371-5088.

PLEASE CONSIDER SPONSORING A PEACOCK FEATHER FOR $100 AT THE POLISH VILLAGE HALL: Your name, or the name of a person in whose memory you designate, will be permanently inscribed on the wall below a painted peacock feather downstairs in the Polish Village Hall. The hall has recently gone through some major improvements. Thanks for your help in promoting the hall as a hub for the community. Please speak with any member of the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society or call 902-564-8494.

“THE POLISH CAPE BRETONERS”: A COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COLOURING BOOK PROJECT: (A project of CBU’S Tompkins Institute, in consultation with our parish and the Polish community). Jeff Wilson will be the illustrator. Please submit any suggestions for themes to Tom Urbaniak by this coming Wednesday (902-563-1226; tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca). Target date for the completion of the book is the end of June.

A RECENT MESSAGES ON TWITTER FROM THE HOLY FATHER: “Almsgiving helps us to recognize our neighbour as our brother or sister, and to acknowledge that what we possess is never our's alone.” “Fasting makes us more alert and attentive to God and our neighbour, and reminds us that He alone can satisfy our hunger.”
