DZIĘKUJEMY / THANK YOU for yesterday’s sold-out Dinner Theatre! There are still tickets available (after Mass or at the door) for the matinee today at 2:00pm which includes a light lunch. Please invite friends and family. Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed to this fund-raising project: director Brittany Fagan-Steele, the cast, crew, the hard work of everyone who prepared food, did set-up, clean-up, ticket sales, etc.  Thank you to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society for the use of the hall not only for the public events but for many rehearsals.

DECORATIONS: An urgent appeal for decorations that could be turned into ornaments for a special “Polish” Christmas tree! The Old Sydney Society has invited our parish to be one of five featured organizations in a special display at the Old Bank Museum on Charlotte St. They are providing a tree and are asking us to decorate it this week in a way that shows some of our religious and Polish traditions.  We understand there will be a donation box in front of the tree where people can “vote” for our tree by making a donation to our parish. If you have anything that could go on the tree – Polish cards that could be turned into ornaments, small Polish dolls to lend that could be turned into ornaments, or any other decorations -- please drop them off to the glebe house by Tuesday or speak with Eileen Fagan-Steele or Tom Urbaniak. Thanks!

THE FIRST PHASE OF CONSTRUCTION OF OUR COMMUNITY KITCHEN is continuing. Thank you for all your support! This phase, which includes rough-ins, plumbing, flooring, drywalling, and other work is costing just under $20,000. As previously discussed and reported, we have incorporated the Whitney Pier Polish Kitchen Society to help with future kitchen programming (eg. cooking classes, community meals), future grant applications, etc, and to continually involve the broader community. The Society will be holding its first Annual General Meeting in January.

NAMES ON DONOR WALLS: The Rada would like to have the rebuilding donor wall completed soon and has established a December 31 deadline for new rebuilding donors to be listed on this donor wall. Your generosity is deeply appreciated. Thank you also for sharing the word and inviting others.

THE ST. MICHAEL’S POLISH BENEFIT SOCIETY meets this evening at 7 p.m.

UNIQUE TEAPOT AUCTION AND SOCIAL: Next Sunday December 3rd in Sala 1050 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm with viewing starting at 1:30pm. Free admission. It will be a fun afternoon. Watch some of our parishioners in action as auctioneers for the first time! Novelty and everyday teapots (35 in all), generously donated by Donna Cooper (friend and neighbor of the parish) from her amazing collection. In memory of her father Alvin Seymour. Something for everyone. Free desserts will be served during auction. All proceeds go to St Mary's Polish Church Kitchen Rebuilding. These teapots will make wonderful Christmas gifts!

WIZYTA ŚWIĘTEGO MIKOLAJA / VISIT OF ST. NICHOLAS: Sunday, December 10, following the 10:00am Mass. Everyone is welcome. There will be small gifts for children. Please don’t hesitate to invite neighbours, relatives, friends. We will also have lunch at this time and will be collecting items for Loaves and Fishes. Please note that there will be no lunch after Mass on December 3rd.

CHRISTMAS AT THE PARK: This afternoon at Wentworth Park (3 to 5 pm). Free. Everyone welcome. Bring a lawn chair and blanket. Cape Breton musicians. Hot chocolate. Hosted by Craig Ferguson (Holy Redeemer).

A NOTE ON ST. CECILIA (FEAST DAY NOV. 22) AND THE CHOIR OF ST. MARY'S POLISH CHURCH: St. Cecilia, martyred around the year 230 in Rome because of her Christian faith, sang to God as she lay dying. She is the patron saint of the Choir of St. Mary’s Polish Parish and of church music. It was Father Leo O’Connell who began calling our choir after St. Cecilia. Thank you so much to our choir for all they do to strengthen our faith and uphold our parish community.  Bóg zapłać!

Andrzejki (an-JAY-kee) St. Andrew was fishing with his brother Simon (St. Peter) when they were both called by Jesus to follow him. We believe that Andrew was present and assisted Jesus at many of the important events of Jesus’ ministry. There are many old Polish customs linked to the Feast of St. Andrew (Nov. 30) and the Eve of the Feast of St. Andrew. Some of these customs relate to trying to guess who will marry whom! Here are some words and items that people often use:
