OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

OPŁATEK POTLUCK: Today from 1:00-3:00 pm in the Polish Village Hall. Everyone is welcome. There is no charge. If you can, please bring a dish as well as an item for Loaves and Fishes. This is our traditional conclusion to the Christmas season.

TAKING DOWN CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS: Tomorrow (Monday) at 10 am. We would be so grateful to anyone who could spare an hour or so. There have been many compliments about how beautifully decorated our church was for Christmas. Dziękujemy i Bóg zapłać!

HERITAGE TOUR TO POLAND AND LWÓW, UKRAINE: There is an overview of costs and the itinerary at the back of the church. Fr. Rich will be accepting reservations (and $200 deposit) during the Opłatek potluck this afternoon.

RECRUITING GREETERS (INCLUDING YOUTH GREETERS) FOR OUR SUNDAY MASSES: If you are interested or would like to discuss further, please speak with Marjorie Ardelli (902-794-2910) or Tom Urbaniak (902-563-1226). Thank you!

DESIGNING THE FUTURE CHURCH KITCHEN: The Rada and Hospitality Committee have started design planning, and also visiting places where there may be surplus equipment. We are trying to get quality equipment donated or discounted. This past week, NSCC Marconi agreed to assign a class and an instructor to advise us on kitchen design and equipment. If you would like to be part of this process, please speak with Peggy Ryba, Stephanie Black or Tom Urbaniak. As much as possible, we would like the future kitchen to work well for us and the volunteers who will use it – for it to be modern, convenient, logically designed, safe and comfortable.

"KOLĘDA" PASTORAL VISIT AND HOME BLESSING: It is still not too late to sign up for Father Rich to visit your home for the annual blessing that is part of the Polish custom. There is a sign-up binder on the back table. Everyone is welcome to have their home blessed.

REBUILDING UPDATE: At the Rada meeting on Wednesday, January 18, we will try to determine how quickly we can move into the next increment of Phase 2 (washrooms and kitchen). We are still about $65,000 away from covering all costs (through continued fund-raising). A couple of possible unanticipated expenses came to our attention this week, but we are hoping to cover most of those through the insurance extension fund for certain professional fees. The wonderful help of parishioners and friends of the parish with fund-raising has been greatly appreciated. Our next fund-raising event is the pre-Lenten Zabawa (more in future bulletins). Suggestions and initiatives are always welcomed.    Also, Art Fennell (professional sign designer) will be in the church this week to start the work of designing attractive donor-recognition plaques. If you would like to give him any input on design, please let any member of the Rada know.

A FEW WORDS ON THE IMPORTANCE OF OPŁATEK: In our parish, we usually have the Opłatek gathering around the time of the feast of the Baptism of the Lord. But Opłatek gatherings in the Polish tradition -- and carolling --- can go on until February 2nd, which is Candlemas Day (Matki Boskiej Gromnicznej). Opłatek is the Christmas wafer. The tradition of sharing it goes back almost a thousand years in Poland and is also found in neighbouring countries, including Lithuania and Slovakia. The custom has continued among people of Polish heritage around the world. Sometimes, the Opłatek wafer comes in various colours. Sometimes, especially in the Polish countryside, people share Opłatek that is in the various colours with pets or livestock. Also, in the Silesia (Śląsk) region of Poland, people sometimes put honey on the Opłatek that is shared with children. This kind of Opłatek is called “radośnik” from the root word for joyful. When you exchange Opłatek with someone, it is customary to wish them peace, happiness, many blessings, and that the year ahead may be filled with lots of love and friendship.

FROM POPE FRANCIS’S HOMILY LAST WEEK FOR THE FEAST OF THE BAPTISM OF THE LORD:  “… and, faith is light: in the ceremony of Baptism you will be given a lighted candle, as in the early days of the Church. For this reason Baptism, in those days, was called ‘illumination’ because faith illuminates the heart; it shows things in a different light. You have asked for faith: the Church gives faith to your children with Baptism, and you have the task of making it grow, safeguarding it, so that it may become testimony for all others. This is the meaning of this ceremony. I would like to tell you only this: safeguard the faith; make it grow, so it may be testimony for others.”

WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY: January 18-25: This year’s theme is “Reconciliation – The Love of Christ Compels Us”. Together, Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox churches around the world are reflecting on the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, and how we can use this time to examine what unites us, what we have yet to discern as followers of Christ, and how we can work and pray together more closely.

IN MEMORIAM / BUILDING FUND / REBUILDING FUND ENVELOPES are at the back of the church. Many thanks for your support.

ENTRANCE CAROL:
Mędrcy świata (Sages of the World)
Mędrcy świata, monarchowie,
Gdzie śpiesznie dążycie?
Powiedzcież nam, Trzej Królowie,
Chcecie widzieć Dziecię?
Ono w żłobie, nie ma tronu,
I berła nie dzierży,
A proroctwo Jego zgonu,
Już się w świecie szerzy.

Mędrcy świata, złość okrutna,
Dziecię prześladuje.
Wieść okropna, wieść to smutna,
Herod spisek knuje:
Nic monarchów nie odstrasza,
Do Betlejem śpieszą,
Gwiazda Zbawcę im ogłasza,
Nadzieją się cieszą.

Przed Maryją stają społem,
Niosą Panu dary.
Przed Jezusem biją czołem,
Składają ofiary.
Trzykroć szczęśliwi królowie,
Któż wam nie zazdrości?
Cóż my damy, kto nam powie,
Pałając z miłości?

Tak, jak każą nam kapłani,
Damy dar troisty:
Modły, pracę niosąc w dani,
I żar serca czysty.
To kadzidło, mirrę, złoto
Niesiem, Jezu szczerze,
Co dajemy Ci z ochotą,
Od nas przyjm w ofierze

IN PLACE OF THE GLORIA:
Gdy się Chrystus rodzi (As Christ is Born) Gdy się Chrystus rodzi
I na świat przychodzi,
Ciemna noc w jasności
Promienistych brodzi.
Aniołowie się radują,
Pod niebiosy wyśpiewują:
Gloria, gloria, gloria
In excelsis Deo!

Mówią do pasterzy,
Którzy trzód swych strzegli,
Aby do Betlejem
Czym prędzej pobiegli,
Bo się narodził Zbawiciel,
Wszego świata Odkupiciel.
Gloria…

OFFERTORY:
Jezusa Narodzonego (Christ Who is Born)
Jezusa narodzonego wszyscy witajmy,
Jemu po kolędzie dary wzajem oddajmy.
Oddajmy wesoło, skłaniajmy swe czoło,
Skłaniajmy swe czoło Panu naszemu
.

COMMUNION:
W Żłobie Leży (In the Manger He Lays)
W żłobie leży, któż pobieży
Kolędować małemu
Jezusowi Chrystusowi
Dziś nam narodzonemu?
Pastuszkowie przybywajcie
Jemu wdzięcznie przygrywajcie
Jako Panu naszemu!

My zaś sami z piosneczkami
Za wami popieszmy,
I tak tego, maleńkiego,
Niech wszyscy zobaczmy:
Jak ubogo narodzony,
Płacze w stajni, położony,
Więc go dziś ucieszmy.

Naprzód tedy, niechaj wszędy
Zabrzmi świat w wesołości,
Że posłany jest nam dany
Emmanuel w niskości!
Jego tedy przywitajmy,
Z aniołami zaśpiewajmy
Chwała na wysokości!

POST-COMMUNION:
Śliczna Panienka (Resplendent Virgin)
Śliczna Panienka Jezusa zrodziła.
W stajni powiwszy, siankiem Go okryła.
O, siano, siano, siano jak lilija,
na którym kładzie Jezusa Maryja.

Czemuż litości nie masz, Panno droga,
żeś w liche siano uwinęła Boga:
o, siano, siano, siano - kwiecie drogi,
gdy się nta tobie kładzie Bóg ubogi.

Dziwna na świecie stała się odmiana,
że nazarejski kwiat wrzucon do siana:
o, siano, siano, co ci się zdarzyło,
że, będąc sianem, w kwiateś się zmieniło?

CLOSING:
Pójdźmy wszyscy do stajenki (Let Us All Go to the Stable)
Pójdźmy wszyscy do stajenki, do Jezusa i Panienki
Powitajmy Maleńkiego i Maryję Matkę Jego/x2
