Niedziela Miłosierdzia Bożego / Divine Mercy Sunday: “Jesus said to Sr. Faustina one day: `Humanity will never find peace until it turns with trust to Divine Mercy.’ Divine Mercy! This is the Easter gift that the Church receives from the risen Christ and offers to humanity.”—St. John Paul II, April 22, 2001
Sister Faustina Kowalska (1905-1938) was canonized in 2000, and the Holy Father officially designated the Sunday after Easter as Divine Mercy Sunday in the General Roman Calendar, an important moment of Grace and Devotion reflecting what was communicated to Sister Faustina. Divine Mercy Sunday is also the day after the conclusion of the Novena of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, which begins on Good Friday. Its closing prayer is: “Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion — inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself.”

“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name.  Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
April 3: Antoni, Jakub, Ryszard
April 4: Benedykt, Izydor
April 5: Borzywoj, Irena, Wincenty
April 6: Ada, Adam, Ireneusz, Katarzyna, Świętobor
April 7: Donata
April 8: Cezary, Radosław

OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

CHANGE TO SUNDAY MASS TIME AS OF TODAY: Beginning today, the regular Sunday Mass for St. Mary’s Polish Parish will be held at 9am. This change will give me a little more breathing time in between the two Sunday morning masses. Most parishes in the area that still have two Sunday morning masses have the same time frame. – Father Paul

ŚWIĘCONKA BREAKFAST: Our parish's Polish Easter breakfast will be today immediately after our 9 a.m. Mass in the Polish Village Hall. Please check with Shauna McKay about ticket availability. Tickets are $10, except $5 for age 12 and under. Proceeds to our rebuilding. Thanks so much for your support. Dziękujemy serdecznie. And thank you to the members of our Hospitality Committee!

STATIONS OF THE CROSS have been donated to us by the former St. Joseph’s Church. We are most grateful to the Parish of St. Marguerite Bourgeoys! In the coming weeks, we will be looking to paint Polish inscriptions below the images.

RECENT IMO ("IN MEMORY OF") CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE (RE)BUILDING FUND:
IMO Deceased Members of the Melski family from Robert & Michelle Melski
IMO Teofil Pierrynowski from Mary Pierrynowski
IMO Lydia Clarke-Inch from Walter & Mary Clarke
IMO Peter Stephenson from Agnes Stephenson
IMO Krasowski family from Eileen Fagan-Steele

PARISH CARE : If you know about a parishioner who is homebound or might appreciate a call or a helping hand for any reason, and for us to pray for them, please let Catherine Tucker know (902-567-0146). Thank you to everyone in the Care team for the beautiful gesture of bringing blessed Easter baskets to homebound parishioners whose names had been called into the team by fellow parishioners. The parishioners who received the baskets said they were grateful and very touched that we are remembering them.

PASTA DINNER TO SUPPORT OUR REBUILDING: Thank you to the Pogoria Polish Folk Ensemble for singing at Friday’s dinner fund-raiser to support our rebuilding held at our Lady of Fatima hall, so generously put on by Frank DiVito, members of Our Lady of Fatima Parish, and the Knights of Columbus. This was such a generous initiative on their part. It raised just over $1,500, and we received another $500 donation at the event from the Knights of Columbus Moses Coady Council. We also distributed our fund-raising post-cards and received other donation pledges!

PARISH DINNER THEATRE – FUND-RAISER: Fellow parishioner Brittany Fagan-Steele, who has a background in theatre arts, has developed a very interesting and totally “do-able” proposal for a pre-Christmas parish dinner theatre – as a fund-raiser for our rebuilding (we’ll still be fund-raising to finish the hall/reading room/kitchen section!) Brittany will say more about this at our Easter breakfast today.

THE ST. MICHAEL’S POLISH BENEFIT SOCIETY meets this evening at 7 p.m.

SEEDS FOR OUR FOOD GARDEN: Alina Stahevitch is accepting donations of seeds for this year’s parish community food garden.

PAINT PARTY to help paint the inside rooms of our new church! Please watch for details in an upcoming bulletin.

A NOTE ON CHOIR RECRUITMENT – NEW MEMBERS WELCOME!  Being part of the choir is an incredible way to praise God, to keep alive our beautiful language, hymns, and traditions, and to bring great joy to the community. Current choir members (all wonderful people!) would work with you, and you could ease in gradually.

MASS OF CONSECRATION: (now scheduled for Sunday, July 3, at 1 p.m.). A couple of weeks prior to that (date still to be announced) we will have an Open House to welcome the community and say thank you to everyone who has been so generously assisting us. We would be so grateful if, together, our parish could learn this hymn, which speaks about being under the protection of heaven no matter what the adversity or life’s circumstances.
1. Pod Twą obronę, Ojcze na niebie,
Grono Twych dzieci swój powierza los.
Ty nam błogosław, ratuj w potrzebie,
I broń od zguby, gdy zagraża cios.

2. Czy toń spokojna, czy huczą fale,
Gdy Ty Twe dzieci w Swej opiece masz,
Wznosimy modły dziś ku Twej chwale,
Boś Ty nam tarczą, Boże Ojcze nasz

ŚMIGUS-DYNGUS / “WET” EASTER MONDAY: In Poland, Easter Monday is a holiday known as Lany Poniedziałek or Śmigus-Dyngus. It is traditionally a day when people try to drench each other with buckets of water. It was said that a single person’s chances of getting married were greater the more she or he got drenched! In some North American cities, Easter Monday is called “Dyngus Day” and is a celebration of Polish culture and Easter traditions.
