Święto Chrztu Pańskiego / Feast of the Baptism of the Lord

UROCZYSTOŚĆ CHRZTU PAŃSKIEGO / FEAST OF THE BAPTISM OF THE LORD: Once celebrated at the same time as Epiphany, this Feast marks Jesus’ baptism in the River Jordan by John the Baptist, a holy man and cousin of Jesus, who led a general movement of repentance. John urged his students and associates to follow Jesus. John was murdered by King Herod around AD 30. We reflect today on the significance of Baptism – as an act of cleansing, of membership to our spiritual community, of our call to holiness. We renew our baptismal vows. To demonstrate the importance of Baptism, St. John Paul II initiated on this day the practice of baptizing babies in the Sistine Chapel. This day is also the end of the Christmas season.

TODAY’S MASS INTENTION is for deceased members of the Ardelli family offered by Shirley & family. Wieczny odpoczynek racz Im dać Panie, a swiatłość wiekuista niechaj Im świeci na wieki wieków. Amen

Eucharistic Minister for today: Suzanne Campbell

Ushers for collection today: Larry Gniewek, Toni  LaRusic

“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name.  Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
January 10: Jan, Paweł
January 11: Feliks, Matylda
January 12: Antoni, Arkadiusz, Benedykt, Ernest
January 13: Weronika
January 14: Feliks
January 12: Aleksander, Paweł
January 16: Marcel, Włodzimierz, Kevin
January 17: Antoni, Jan, Rościsław

OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

THANK YOU so much to everyone who participated in last evening’s Oplatek Potluck. The contributions to Loaves and Fishes will be delivered today.

LIFELINE SYRIA: Our parish is among many faith communities represented on Lifeline Syria. The Sydney area will soon be welcoming three families, including nine adults and 13 children (between the ages of eight months and 11 years). Lifeline Syria has asked if we could provide resources that would help the children with English-language learning – books, CDs, games, toys, etc. Please speak with any member of the Rada if there is any item you could contribute. Dziekujemy bardzo!

REBUILDING UPDATE: Drywalling has started. A decision on flooring will have to be made probably this week. The steeple is still in production at the boat-builders in Port Morien (probably two more weeks). Fund-raising remains very crucial to the project. There have been no changes to the budget expenditure numbers that were distributed to the full parish at the lunch on December 13.

WHAT SHOULD WE INCLUDE IN THE TIME CAPSULE FOR OUR REBUILT CHURCH? Last evening at our Oplatek supper, we did some brainstorming. If you have any additional ideas in the next few days, please call 902-563-1226 or e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca .

CROSS FOR OUR NEW CHURCH: This is being made for us as a community service by NSCC students. Work was delayed a bit over the holidays. Please speak with any member of the Rada in the next few days if you have any concerns about the proposed design.
